The Trans-Central Asian Railway consists of the Trans-Caspian Railroad, the Kazalinsk Route, the Turk-Sib, and the Trans-Kazakhstan Trunk Line. Currently, one-fifth of the residents in Central Asia are living around these railroads on which 70% of the economic activities in the region depends. The construction of the railroads in Central Asia was motivated by the Russian Empire's competition 'with its maritime rival, the United Kingdom, over the Eurasian heartland in a geostrategic sense. Using the railroads, the Russian Empire aspired to connect its central industrial regions in European Russia with the remote frontier areas in the Central Asian republics and to increase economic specialization of the region. After the breakdown of the USSR, however, the rail network, which had well been linked among the regions in the former Soviet nations, has been in a deteriorated linkage with their non-Soviet neighboring nations. Despite a lot of problems to be solved, the Trans-Central Asian rail network is expected to play a crucial role as a land bridge between East Asia and Europe as well as between Russia/the Baltic sea and the Indian Ocean/the Persian Gulf in the long-term.

There are posters of a tourist and traffics as like railroads and ships among Cassandre's posters, and they are common in dealing with 'travelling'. This series of travelling posters which includes many of his representative works, are important in the point of showing his unique styles and the process how Hey have been changed. In this thesis, I tried to analyze, especially in the plastic and graphic aspects, how Cassandre catch the peoples' desire and dreams of the travelling and images on the mechanical property of railroads and ships in 1920's and 1930's and how he put them into his works. I think that has revealed sense and visual language which has revealed through this analysis still give some messages to advertising media of moving images based on electronic technology today.

A train overturn accident occurred on March 1993 in the Gupo area, northern part of Pusan, unfortunately had taken a heavy toll of lives and caused a great loss of property as well. The reasons for the subsidence of the basement under the railroads, which presumed to be the main cause of the accident, have been investigated from many different angles, including conventional geotechnical investigation methods. The deduced nuin reasons of the subsidence were: 1. blasting for tunnel excavation (NATM) at about 39 meter under the railroads, and 2. unexpected change of bedrock conditions along the direction of tunnel. But this accident was derived nrranlv from the lack of geological and geotechnical information under railroad area because it was impossible to drill beneath the railroads. This paper introduces a new geophysical survey techniqueseisrnic geotomography, and shows some results of the method applying to investigate the underground structure of the accident area. This method not only overcomes the unfavourable environment which many conventional investigation methods cannot face, but produces an image of underground structure with high resolution. Furthermore, the outputs from geotomogaphic analysis could provide very valuable in-situ basic parameters (like seismic velocities, elastic moduli, etc.) which is essential to the design and construction.

What benefit items from railroad investment are evaluated, and how those items are quantified have profound impacts on the feasibility of the proposed investments. They also have implications on the projects priorities, not to mention on intermodal comparison between highway and railroad. Evaluation procedures currently being utilized in Korea show limits in fully evaluating railroads' investment impacts. Economic and practical implications are evaluated for including revenues for railroad investment. Based on the critical evaluation of procedures in other countries, and based on the analysis of Korea's national transportation goals, new and improved benefit items are redefined and quantification guidelines are proposed.

Although the railroad industry has progressed in terms of amount and quality because of the opening of the new express ways in 2004 and the construction and openings of the express railroads of cities, the establishment of safety has been poor so there has been lurking accidents and it resulted in big accidents like a Daegu subway fire. Therefore, this study is to minimize damages of life and property by establishing GIS, a map for emergency and Activity-Action and emergency reaction scenario through a web in case of emergencies mentioned before.

Electrified railroads inject large amount of harmonics, negative sequence and reactive currents to electric supply systems. This paper introduces application of active filter as a 3/1 phase converter for electrified railroad. In this system active filter compensate harmonics, negative sequence and reactive currents and electric railroad and active filter together act as a balance three-phase load with power factor 1

선행연구와 사례조사를 통해 안동시 철도 폐선부지의 활용 방안을 분석한 결과 실개천 조성, 철도의 역사와 문화를 체험할 수 있는 철도 역사박물관, 철도폐선을 활용한 레저시설, 철도 객차를 활용한 호텔 및 편의시설, 기존 역사를 활용한 쇼핑몰, 임청각 복원, 어린이 기차공원 등 복합문화공간으로 조성하는 것이 가장 바람직하다는 결론을 도출 하였다.

Electrical Railroads provide electric power, which can operate vehicles, via feeder wires. And the supplied current returns to the transformer substation through lines and ground net. In domestic cases, the configuration of ground net affecting such a return current mostly uses an exclusive earth method. However, along with the introduction to Gyeongbu HSL(High Speed Line), the concept of Common Earth was applied to Electrical Railroads. In this paper, based on the return currents analyzed to be measured in the electrified sections for the operation of High Speed Rails in existing lines, we analyze the relations between earth methods and return currents in electrified sections. For analysis, we utilize the measured values of return currents measured in track circuits in Gyeongbu HSL, and predictive values of those compared to the earth methods between Gyeongbu HSL and the existing electrified sections.
