  • In general, railroad operation companies sell tickets to maximize their profits by applying the ticketing release time (when selling any tickets regardless of trip distances). This study is to analyze the effect of the release time on KTX ticket reservation behavior. The reservation behavior in this study means the reservation time calculated by difference between ticketing time and departure time. The data come from KTX ticket sales data of Gyeongbu-line for a week including Saturday and Sunday. The results show that the factors to affect the reservation time are day of the week, trip distance and operation direction, in addition to the release time. Furthermore, most of tickets were reserved three hours before their departure time, and most of the up line weekend users reserved their tickets a day before the departure time. Before the release time, reservation time was affected by up line and long distance travel. On the other hand, after the release time, it was affected by long distance travel and Sunday.

  • A subway is one of many public transportation means that contributes toward our society including seoul and offering of its service and expression of various information are in need due to users high demand. And there are various class of users. For that reason an optical communication network in the general contorl center and station buildings was installed. Considering the importance of safe operation of subway, optical communication exists to enhance customer satisfaction. Safe operation is essential as its level of reliance accounts for about 95%. this paper will look for ways to promote mutual information interchange and operation know-how with systems of the same kind and sharing a capable of effective operation of systems in place. Optical communication network in the metropolis railroad accepts various kinds of control networks and data networks for train operation. As occasion demands, this paper presents effective application scheme and specialized organization about an optical communication operating system.

  • Crashes that occur at tollgates have different characteristics compared to those of the mainline on expressways in terms of crash cause, crash type, and vehicle type. Due to this fact, the safety performance function (SPF) focused on the expressway tollgates, apart from the mainline, should be developed. The aim of this study is, therefore, to identify the influential factors and develope a SPF for crashes at tollgates. Firstly, we established independent variables affecting crashes at tollgates through literature review and descriptive statistical analysis. Based on these variables, two negative binomial regression models with different form of independent variables were developed and goodness-of-fits of each model were compared. According to the results, the number of crashes increases i) as AADT, Hi-pass rate, and heavy vehicle rate increase, ii) as average lane width decreases, iii) on the mainline tollgate type. The safety performance function developed in this study could be applied to select hot-spots for expressway tollgates.

  • Advances in low-cost wireless sensing have made instrumentation of large civil infrastructure systems with dense arrays of wireless sensors possible. A critical issue with regard to effective use of the information harvested from these sensors is synchronized sensing. Although a number of synchronization methods have been developed, most provide only clock synchronization. Synchronized sensing requires not only clock synchronization among wireless nodes, but also synchronization of the data. Existing synchronization protocols are generally limited to networks of modest size in which all sensor nodes are within a limited distance from a central base station. The scale of civil infrastructure is often too large to be covered by a single wireless sensor network. Multiple independent networks have been installed, and post-facto synchronization schemes have been developed and applied with some success. In this paper, we present a new approach to achieving synchronized sensing among multiple networks using the Pulse-Per-Second signals from low-cost GPS receivers. The method is implemented and verified on the Imote2 sensor platform using TinyOS to achieve $50{\mu}s$ synchronization accuracy of the measured data for multiple networks. These results demonstrate that the proposed approach is highly-scalable, realizing precise synchronized sensing that is necessary for effective structural health monitoring.

  • We proposed a realtime object tracking system that detects the abandoned or disappeared objects. Because these events are caused by human, we used the tracking based algorithm. After the background subtraction by Gaussian mixture model, the shadow removal is applied for accurate object detection. The static object is classified as either of abandoned objects or disappeared object. We assigned monitoring time to the static object to overcome a situation that it is being overlapped by other object. We obtained more accurate detection by using region growing method. We implemented our algorithm by DSP processor and obtained an excellent result throughout the experiment.

  • Recently the increase in the exchange of goods between Europe and Asia caused by social and economic factors creates good opportunities for railways. At the same time, however, it becomes an enormous challenge for railway transport. There are different rail track gauges (i.e narrow/standard/broad gauge) on the continental transportation between Korea (TKR) and Eurasian (TCR/TSR). The existence of various track gauges is one of obstacles preventing the smooth flow of goods by rail. The transferring process system from one track gauge to another could vary with the types of cargo. Service operation of these systems has a decisive effect on working time and cost of storage and transshipment facilities at border crossings. In relation to the above-mentioned factors, it is important to examine the comparison between different methods of transferring goods in different track gauges. In this study, it was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of continental railway transportation systems through analysis scenarios and to suggest technical factors of them.

  • Backfill materials of rail abutment were commonly composed with cement treated aggregate, general aggregate and soil. The friction angle of cement treated aggregate increased up to $40^{\circ}$ or more due to strength enhancement. However, $30^{\circ}{\sim}35^{\circ}$ of friction angle was typically applied for in-situ condition. This phenomenon could cause over-designing, therefore, it is essential to determine reasonable material properties of cemented treated aggregate. In this study, a series of CBR tests and circular model tests have been conducted for cement treated aggregate, while changing cement mixing ratio. Based on test results, characteristics of settlement and strength have been analyzed quantitatively. The settlement of cement treated aggregate decreased with the number of cyclic loading and aging period. In addition, The strength increment ratio in CBR test increased up to 13~16 times at 28 days aging.

  • Dynamic parameters such as natural frequencies can provide global stiffness information of a structure, and thus be utilized in monitoring structural integrity of large structures such as a containment. To identify the dynamic parameters without interrupting normal operation, a modal analysis method based on ambient vibration measurements should be applied. In this study, dynamic parameters of the containment of Wolsong Unit 2 are identified using ambient vibration measurement data. The feasibility of the study is verified using a numerical model for the containment. From the modal analysis, dynamic parameters of the containment with acceptable correlation to analytical modes can be estimated.

  • In order to supply power to online monitoring systems that are attached to high voltage catenary or overhead wires, a wireless power transfer system is required that is able to transmit power over the insulation gap. Such wireless power transfer systems have transmitter and receiver coils that have diameters of over 10cm. This paper focused on an investigation of the sources of loss in the coils when the coils are fabricated using printed circuit board technology. Using finite element simulation results, it has been shown that the dielectric loss in the substrate was the dominant source of the total loss. It has been demonstrated that the selection of a proper dielectric material was the most critical factor in reducing the loss. For further reduction of the loss, the distributed tuning capacitor method and the slotting of the inter-turn spaces have been proposed. For the evaluation of the proposed methods, four coils have been fabricated and their equivalent series resistances and quality factors were measured. Measured quality factors were greater than 300, which means that these devices will be helpful in achieving high coil-to-coil efficiency.
