Daegu urban railroad line 3 is introduced with straddle-type monorail system within the country at the first time. This system is long line with 24km in total length which has not the results of construction in Korea. The rail beam of monorail bridge to be constructed/ installed in the city is adopted on the basis of the PSC rail beam. It is required to apply the steel rail beam at rapid/ curved line parts or location to be required the long span bridge as passing river and intersection. The composition of span bridge is various and the height of bridge is change with each section and exist the different curve radius due to all section is passes in the city. The rail beam shall be considered the ground conditions and then consider the construction methods. It is analyzed to construction period of PSC rail beam to be linked with period of infrastructure construction and construction of steel rail beam, structure construction of station etc. It is compared to crane construction methods and launching girder as alternative construction methods and propose to upper construction methods which is superior in economic and construction.
This paper deals with contents on the estimation of rail beam from the geotechnical engineering aspect. Rail beam is reinforced rail installed on the inside and outside of rail to prevent differential settlement during the construction period of railroad crossing construction. Such rail beam is frequently being installed to ensure stability of existing railroad facilities because of increasing constructions of underground structures crossing railroad in recent. However, there is a difficulty in design due to lack of design standard on rail beam length. Furthermore, derailing accidents are also occurring as a result of rail beam length shortage. Accordingly, this paper presented flow chart based on the classification into soil ground and bedrock ground for the rail beam length estimation. In addition, case study was conducted on rail combination and location through which effective rail combination and location were ensured.
This paper describes the formulation and application of a dynamic model for a conventional rail track subjected to arbitary loading functions that simulate wheel/rail impact forces. The rail track is idealized as a periodic elastically coupled beam system resting on a Winkler foundation. Modal parameters of the track structure are first obtained from the natural vibration characteristics of the beam system, which is discretized into a periodic assembly of a specially-constructed track element and a single beam element characterized by their exact dynamic stiffness matrices. An equivalent frequency-dependent spring coefficient representing the resilient, flexural and inertial characteristics of the rail support components is introduced to reduce the degrees of freedom of the track element. The forced vibration equations of motion of the track subjected to a series of loading functions are then formulated by using beam bending theories and are reduced to second order ordinary differential equations through the use of mode summation with non-proportional modal damping. Numerical examples for the dynamic responses of a typical track are presented, and the solutions resulting from different rail/tie beam theories are compared.

A forced vibration model of a rail system was established using the Timoshenko beam theory to determine the dynamic response of a rail under time-varying load considering the damping effect and stiffness of the elastic foundation. By using a Fourier series and a numerical method, the critical velocity and dynamic response of the rail were obtained. The forced vibration model was verified by using FEM and Euler beam theory. The permanent deformation of the rail was predicted based on the forced vibration model. The permanent deformation and wear were observed through the experiment. Parametric studies were then conducted to investigate the effect of five design factors, i.e., rail cross-section shape, rail material density, rail material stiffness, containment stiffness, and damping coefficient between rail and containment, on four performance indices of the rail, i.e., critical velocity, maximum deflection, maximum longitudinal stress, and maximum shear stress.
An analytical method has been developed to estimate the dynamic contact force between wheel and rail when trains are running on rail with vertical irregularities. In this method, the effect of Hertzian deformation at the contact point is considered as a linearized spring and the wheel is considered as an sprung mass. The rail is modelled as a discretely-supported Timoshenko beam, and the periodic structure theory was adopted to obtain the driving-point receptance. As an example, the dynamic contact force for a typical wheel/rail system was analysed by the method developed in this research and the dynamic characteristics of the system was also discussed. It is revealed that discretely-supported Timoshenko beam model should be used instead of the previously used continuously-supported model or discretelysupported Euler beam model, for the frequency range above several hundred hertz.
In this paper, rail vibration and its sound radiation are investigated, then the rail noise measurement by using microphone array is explored theoretically. A concrete slab track for domestic high speed trains is modeled as a Timoshenko beam on elastic support, regarding the moving of the excitation force on the rail. From the radiation characteristics of rail noise generated by a line source, the effect of moving load on sound radiation is obtained. Also it is found that the beam angle of the microphone array is a prominent factor to measure the rail noise level reliably because the rail noise propagates as a plane wave. In this investigation, a proper beam angle for the rail noise measurement by microphone array is suggested.
Monorail has been classified as straddled type and suspended type. However, Inchon Wolmi Eunha rail, a center guide type first ever introduced in the world, uses a new concept Y-Beam as guide rail. Since Y-Beam takes horizontal loads of monorail through guide wheels, it is an essential structure for the safe operation along with concrete surface and steel beam which take vertical loads through main tires. This study presents the characteristic and reliability of Y-Beam and Y-Beam fixture, clamp, which are not only taking horizontal loads but also guarantying both guiding and stability of monorail and holding power supply line.

In this study, a noncontact laser ultrasonic system is proposed for rail defect detection. An Nd-Yag pulse laser is used for generation of ultrasonic waves, and the corresponding ultrasonic responses are measured by a laser Doppler vibrometer. For the detection of rail surface damages, the shape of the excitation laser beam is transformed into a line. On the other hand, a point source laser beam is used for the inspection of defects inside a rail head. Then, the interactions of propagating ultrasonic waves with defects are examined using actual rail specimens. Amplitude attenuation was mainly observed for a surface crack, and reflections were most noticeable from an internal damage. Finally, opportunities and challenges associated with real-time rail inspection from a high-speed train are discussed.
This paper presents the critical speed analysis of geogrid-reinforced rail roadbeds on soft soil. A rail roadbed on soft ground must be designed to avoid intolerable stress in the underlying soil and to give sufficient support for the rail system. At high speeds, the deformation of rail systems will gain dynamic amplification, and reach excessive values as a certain speed, here termed critical speed is approached. The elastic Winkler foundation model was used to predict the critical speed of geogrid-reinforced rail roadbeds on soft soil and the model properties were determined by the in-situ cyclic plate load test. Based on the parametric study of elastic beam on Winkler foundation model, the critical speed increase with the increase of the flexural risidity of subgrade EI and the stiffness coefficient of Winkler foundation k. From the in-situ cyclic load tests and analysis of elastic beam on Winkler foundation model, the critical speed increase with increase in number of reinforced layer and non-dimensional value for depth of first geogrid layers and the thickness of reinforced rail roadbed u/d.
Tubular bridge rail was developed to restrain and redirect a 14ton van-type truck. The developed bridge rail permits better visibility than concrete safety-shape bridge rail, and it has better structural adequacy than the existing steel and aluminum bridge rails in Korea. The new bridge rail consists of a tubular thrie beam(TTB) rail and a steel guard rail, which are connected to composite posts. The TTB shape provides both better containment of diverse bumper heights and more tight fit between the ends of bridge rail and roadside guardrails than the existing bridge rail sections currently used in Korea. Making composite post by filling concrete inside the steel pipe of the same size as are used for the roadside guardrail post was found to be more efficient in increasing the stiffness and ultimate strength than simply increasing the size of the steel pipe. The system was crash-tested for the impact condition of 14ton-80km/h-$15^{\circ}$, and it satisfied all evaluation criteria set forth in NCHRP Report 350 for a Test Level 4 safety appurtenance. Acceptable performances were obtained in computer simulations for the impact condition of S2.
