  • The development of smart devices has brought about significant changes in daily life and one of the most significant changes is the virtual reality zone. Virtual reality is a technology that creates the illusion that a 3D high-resolution image has already been created using a display device just like it does in itself. Unrealized subjects are forced to rely on audiovisual materials, resulting in a decline in the concentration of practices and the quality of classes. It used virtual reality to develop effective teaching materials for radiology students. In order to produce a video clip bridge using virtual reality, a radiology clinic was selected to conduct two exposures from July to September 2017. The video was produced taking into account the radiology and work flow chart and filming was carried out in two separate locations : in the computerized tomography unit and in the LINAC room. Prior to filming the scenario and the filming route were checked in advance to facilitate editing of the video. Modeling and mapping was performed in a PC environment using the Window XP operating system. Using two leading virtual reality camera Gopro Hero, CC pixels were produced using a 4K UHD, Adobe, followed by an 8 megapixel resolution of $3,840{\times}2,160/4,096{\times}2,160$. Total regeneration time was performed in about 5 minutes during the production of using virtual reality to prevent vomiting and dizziness. Currently developed virtual reality radiation and educational contents are being used to secure the market and extend the promotion process to be used by various institutions. The researchers will investigate the satisfaction level of radiation and educational contents using virtual reality and carry out supplementary tasks depending on the results.

  • Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) is increasing its use recently due to its benefits of minimizing the dose on surrounding normal organs and being able to target a high dose specifically to the tumor. The study aims to measure and evaluate the dose distribution according to its dynamic changes in Mapcheck. In order to verify the dose distribution by EDW angle($10^{\circ}$,$15^{\circ}$,$20^{\circ}$,$25^{\circ}$,$30^{\circ}$,$45^{\circ}$,$60^{\circ}$), field size (asymmetric field) and depth changes (1.5 cm, 5.0 cm) using IMRT in Clinac ix, a solid phantom was placed on the Mapcheck and 100MU was exposed by 6 MV, 10MV X-ray. Using a 6MV, 10MV energy, the percentage depth dose according to a dynamic changes at a maximum dose depth (1.5 cm) and at 5.0 cm depth showed the value difference of maximum 0.6%, less than 1%, which was calculated by a treatment program device considering the maximum dose depth at the center as 100%, the percentage depth dose was in the range between 2.4% and 7.2%. Also, the maximum value difference of a percentage depth dose was 4.1% in Y2-OUT direction, and 1.7% in Y1-IN direction. When treating a patient using a wedge, it is considered that using an enhanced dynamic wedge is effective to reduce the scattered dose which induces unnecessary dose to the surroundings. In particular, when treating a patient at clinic, a treatment must be performed considering that the wedge dose in a toe direction is higher than the dose in a heel direction.

  • Digital substraction technique and computer-assisted densitometirc analysis detect minor change in bone density and thus increase the diagnostic accuracy. This advantage as well as high sensitivity and objectivity which precludes human bias have drawn interest in radiologic research area. The objectives of this study are to verify if Radiographic density can be recognized in linear pattern when density profile of standard periapical radiograph with the aluminium stepwedge as the reference, was investigated under varies circumstances which can be encountered in clinical situations, and in addition to that to obtain mutual relationship between the existing standard radiographic system, and future digital image systems, by confirming the corelationship between the standard radiograph and Digora system which is a digital image system currently being used. In order to make quantitative analysis of the bone tissue, digital image system which uses high resolution automatic slide scanner as an input device, and Digora system were compared and analyzed using multifunctional program, Brain3dsp. The following conclusions were obtained. 1. Under common clinical situation that is 70kVp, 0.2 sec., and focal distance 10cm, Al-Equivalent image equation was found to be Y=11.21X+46.62 $r^2=0.9898$ in standard radiographic system, and Y=12.68X+74.59, $r^2=0.9528$ in Digora system, and linear relation was confirmed in both the systems. 2. In standard radiographic system, when all conditions were maintained the same except for the condition of developing solution, Al-Equivalent image equation was Y=10.07X+41.64, $r^2=0.9861$ which shows high corelationship. 3. When all conditions were maintained the same except for the Kilovoltage peak, linear relationship was still maintained under 60kVp, and Al-Equivalent image equation was Y=14.60X+68.86, $r^2=0.9886$ in the standard radiograhic system, and Y=13.90X+80.68, $r^2=0.9238$ in Digora system. 4. When all conditions were maintained the same except for the exposure time which was varied from 0.01 sec. to 0.8 sec., Al-Equivalent image equation was found to be linear in both the standard radiographic system and Digora system. The R-square was distributed from 0.9188 to 0.9900, and in general, standard radiographic system showed higher R-square than Digora system. 5. When all conditions were maintained the same except for the focal distance which was varied from 5cm to 30cm, Al-Equivalent image equation was found to be linear in both the standard radiographic system and Digora system. The R-square was distributed from 0.9463 to 0.9925, and the standard radiographic system had the tendency to show higher R-square in shorter focal distances.

  • Cardiac angiography(CA) or cardiac intervention(CI) is one of the major examination methods applied to the detection of cardiovascular diseases using X-rays. These CA and CI procedures require radiation exposure to patients and physicians. We evaluated the radiation dose to cardiac operator during the each case of CA and CI procedures. The number of patients is 113 patients in CA and 34 patients in CI. Mean fluoroscopy time, mean cine time, and mean total cumulative dose area product(DAP) in patients during CA and CI was 165.9 sec vs. 1200.0 sec, 30.31 sec vs 107.5 sec, and $37130.3mGy.cm^2$ vs $213312.6mGy.cm^2$, respectively. Mean dose of thyroid, over chest apron and under chest apron in operator during CA and CI was 15.84 uSv vs 89.81 uSv, 20.16 uSv vs 123.20 uSv, and 0.30 uSv vs 2.40 uSv, respectively. Mean effective dose of operator during CI was about 6 times greater than during CA. Also there was significant inter-relationship between fluoroscopy or cine time and effective dose in operator during CA and CI(p=0.001 and p=0.001, respectively).

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanism of inhibition of chondrogenic differentiation by X-irradiation. Cultures of chick limb bud mesenchymal cells were exposed to various dose of X-ray and chondrogenesis was examined. X-irradiation inhibited accumulation of proteoglycan based on the observation of alcian blue staining and expression of chondorcyte specific-type II collagen. X-irradiation also inhibited expression of protein kinase $C{\alpha}$ while expression of $PKC{\lambda}({\iota}),\;{\varepsilon}$ was not altered. Expression of Erk-1 was not changed by X-irradiation but phosphorylation of Erk-1 was increased. In addition, inhibition of Erk-1 phosphorylation by PD98059 overcame inhibitory effect of X-irradiation on the chondrogenic differentiation. PNA staining data showed that X-irradiation inhibited cellular aggregation. Taken together, these results suggest that X-irradiation inhibits chondrogenic differentiation by inhibiting cellular aggregation and suppressing expression of $PKC{\alpha}$ and promoting phosphorylation of Erk-1. In addition to above pathway, our results also suggest that X-irradiation may exerts its inhibitory effect by another signaling pathways.

  • This study was conducted to examine the community structure of macrobenthos on Angel tidal flat in Jinhae, south coast of Korea. Monthly samples were conducted at eight sites from March 1998 to February 1999. A total of 110 species were sampled with a mean density of 322ind. $m^{-2}$ and biomass of 98.4 wwt g $m^{-2}$. Of these species, there were 44 species of polychaetes $(40.0\%)$, 41 species of crustaceans $(37.3\%)$ and 16 species of molluscs $(14.5\%)$. The major density dominant species were a gastropod Batilaria cumingi (52ind. $m^{-2}$) and five polychaetes Ceratonereis erythraeensis (38ind. $m^{-2}$), Cirriformia tentaculata (32ind. $m^{-2}$), Capitella capitata (23ind. $m^{-2}$), Sigambra tentaculata (23ind. $m^{-2}$), Glycera chirori (17ind. $m^{-2}$). Cluster and MDS analysis showed that the study sites could be divided into two tidal elevation groups. According to the spatial distribution of dominant species and SIMPER analysis, the two groups were characterized by Sigambra tentaculata - Chaetozone setosa in upper species group and Ceratonereis erythraeensis-Cirriformia tentaculata-Capitella capitata in lower species group.

The number of references provided on radiographic techniques were 3 to 5 in general hospitals (52.1%), in hospitals (58.5%), and clinics (44.5%), and only the 10.4% of general hospitals had 11 or more. 2. The relatively high percentages of 75.0% of general hospitals and 68.3% of hospitals have established the standardized radiographic methods for regions examined, but most clinics (61.1%) have not. 3. As a log system for the radiographic request, the method of "routine study, or all the x-ray examinations are marked as 0 on a printed form" was most commonly used by general hospitals (62.5%) and hospitals (51.2%), and "the doctors employ their own methods" in most clinics (44.6%). 4. In the 85.4% of general hospitals, the 68.3% of hospitals and the 38.9% of clinics, the data such as diagnosis, clinic history, purpose of x-ray examination were recorded on a radiographic request at all times, or at least in part. 5. On a scale of hardness and easiness of order of doctors, the greatest response was "fairly easy to understand", and the 37.5% of general hospitals responded as "sometimes hard". 6. In determining the standards for radiographic factors, the general hospitals (62.5%) and hospitals (65.9%) adapted mostly "a departmental check list", and the clinics (61.1%) used mainly "a personal decision". 7. In using the immobilizing devices, angligner, and radiographic accessories, the Percentages were high in general hospitals and hospitals on the one hand, and were low in clinics on the other. 8. A consideration with regard to the devices for an improvement of examination of the same patients was totally ignored by the 50.0% of clinics, the 26.8% of hospitals and the 20.8% of general hospitals. 9. The causes of re-examination were due largely to patients (33.6%), and followed proportionately by incorrect exposure (22.8%), errors in positioning (22.0%), film processing faults (9.2%), conditions of x-ray equipments (8.8%), and quality of x-ray films (3.6%). 10. The conference on radiography was conducted regularly or irregularly by the 87.5% of general hospitals, the 56.1% of hospitals, and the 27.7% of clinics, and the meeting was proceeded only by radiologic technologists.

  • The purpose of this study provides measurements of radiation dose from MDCT of head, chest, abdomen and pelvic examinations. A series of dose quantities that are measured of patient weight to compare the dose received during MDCT examinations. Data collected included: weight together with CT dose descriptors, volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) and dose length product (DLP). The effective dose was also estimated and served as collective dose estimation data. Data from 1,774 adult patients attending for a CT examination of the head (n=520) or chest (n=531) or abdomen (n=724) was obtained from spiral CT units using a same CT protocol. Mean values of CTDIvol was a range of 48.6 mGy for head and 6.9, 10.5 mGy for chest, abdomen examinations, respectively. And mean values of DLP was range of 1,604 $mGy{\cdot}cm$ for head, 250 $mGy{\cdot}cm$ for chest, 575 $mGy{\cdot}cm$ for abdomen examinations, respectively. Mean effective dose values for head, chest, abdominal CT were 3.6, 4.2, and 8.6 mSv, respectively. The degree of CTDIvol and DLP was a positive correlation with weight. And there was a positive correlation for weight versus CTDIvol ($r^2$=0.62), DLP ($r^2$=0.694) in chest. And head was also positive correlation with weight versus CTDIvol ($r^2$=0.691), DLP ($r^2$=0.741). We conclude that CTDIvol and DLP is an important determinant of weight within the CT examinations. The results for this study suggest that CT protocol should be tailored according to patient weight.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the change of morphologic pelvis according to age and gender. Pelvis AP(anterior-posterior) projection were taken from 382 individuals (men: 194, women: 188) at the age of twenty and older. We measured four values of pelvis using CR (computed radiological system) including maximum pelvic breadth (MPB), sacral breadth (SB), transverse diameter of pelvic inlet (TD), and distance between femoral heads (DFH). Average (t-test, ANOVA) and Pearson correlation were calculated for comparison. While there was no significant difference of gender in case of MPB, significant differences were observed in SB (men 97.76 mm, women 102.00 mm), TD (men 138.0 mm, women 149.79 mm), and DFH (men 141.94 mm, women 150.39 mm). The DFH values were negatively correlated with the age (men r=-0.280, women r=-0.207). The morphological changes of pelvis were measured high in the men of 50's and in the women of 60's and 70's. The SB, TD and DFH were greater in the women than in the man. As the ages get higher, the deviation of pelvis were gradually increased, which indicates that the morphological changes of pelvis with respect to the age reflects an aging process.
