  • Background: To investigate the effect of various intervention application on idiopathic scoliosis patient. Methods: One 20-years-old female subject underwent various intervention 3 times per week for 7 weeks. Modality physical therapy, muscle energy technique, combined pelvic tilt exercise and self exercise was performed for 50minutes. Degree of pain, axial trunk rotation, Cobb's angle, kyphotic angle, lumbar lordotic angle, and sacral angle were measured. Results: The subject decreased in degree of pan, axial trunk rotation, Cobb's angle, thoracic kyphotic angle, lumbar lordotic angle and sacral angle. Conclusions: The various interventions for scoliosis patients are effective in the pain and the improvement of angle on radiograph. However, any method is difficult to determine effective interventions.

  • As one of the developmental disturbance in shape of teeth, a twinning has very rare frequency in permanent teeth. Because it is possible to diagnose the twinning by use of the radiograph, it is very important to detect this anomaly early by careful examining the radiographs. The twinning produces several orthodontic problem such as crowding, protrusion, ectopic eruption of adjacent teeth. Therefore it is necessary, in proper time, the extraction and orthodontic treatment should perform.

  • The authers observed a multiple miliary osteoma which was found in the 70-year-old male patient at routine dental examination and obtained the following features; 1. The osteomas are situated in the buccal cheeks of both side, but overlying skin shows normal. 2. The small osteomas range from 2.0㎜ to 2.0㎜ in diameter. 3. The osteomas appeared in proximity to the surface at a special radiograph which made with the tube directed parallel to the surface of the face when the cheek is being blown outwardly. 4. Each osteoma appears as a small doughnut shaped shadow with a radiolucent center.

  • Familial gigantiform cementoma is a rare fibre-cemento-osseous disease of the jaws which appears to be transmitted as an autosomal dominant trait with variable expressivity of the phenotype. A 7-year-old girl visited DKUDH complaining of the painless facial deformity. Clinically, significant facio-lingual expansion was observed at the left maxilla, left mandibular body and symphysis portion. Malposition of lower anterior teeth was found. Panoramic radiograph and CT scan showed the extensive expansile mixed lesion at maxilla and mandible. Bone scan revealed hot spot at the maxilla and left side of mandible. Histologic examination revealed moderately dense fibrous connective tissue with scattered masses resembling cementum. The patient's mother had a history of the mandibular resection due to benign tumor. Her younger brother had buccal expansion of right mandible. We report our finding of a family that has exhibited clinical, radiographic and histologic findings consistent with the familial gigantiform cementoma.

  • We propose a contrast-controlled feature detection approach for steel radiograph image. X-ray images are low contrast, dark and high noise image. So, It is not simple to detect defects directly in automated radiography inspection system. Contrast enhancement, histogram equalization and median filter are the most frequently used techniques to enhance the X-ray images. In this paper, the adaptive control method based on contrast limited histogram equalization is compared with several histogram techniques. Through comparative analysis, CLAHE(contrast controlled adaptive histogram equalization) can enhance detection of defects better.

  • A 5-year-old dog was evaluated for a lethargy and respiratory distress. Radiograph revealed cardiomegaly with pleural effusion, and the dog died during a thoracocentesis. At necropsy, the descending aorta and pulmonary trunk were dilated and in close contact, but there was no external evidence of a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). When the descending aorta was opened however, an ostium opening into the pulmonary trunk was evident. Histopathological investigation revealed that the intramural PDA resembled vascular tissue with a structure and architecture. The diagnosis was an intramural PDA, an extremely rarely reported type of PDA in the dog.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dimensional changes and surface morphology of dentures processed by various polymerization conditions. The measurements were done by taking radiograph and using vernier calipers and each specimen was observed on scanning electron microscope. Results obtained were as follows. 1. The difference of dimensional stability was not recognized between various polymerization conditions(heat-cured resin, pour-type resin, microwave-cured resin, and injection molding resin). 2. There were expansion and shrinkage in the occlusal dimension, shrinkage in the frontal dimension, and expansion in the lateral dimension. 3. Scanning electron microscope pictures of heat-cured resin showed dense and regular surface morphology. 4. Microwave-cured resin surface appeared more regular and smooth than pour-type resin but less dense and more irregular than heat-cured resin. 5. Scanning electron microscope pictures of pour-type resin with the lowest dimensional change showed the most irregular surface morphology.

  • It is important that students are provided opportunities to practice their skills in acquiring radiographic images. However, these opportunities are currently limited because of the risk of radiation exposure. To overcome this limitation, a new augmented reality-based radiography simulator was developed that enables students to practice radiographic techniques as part of self-directed learning without time and space constraints. Subsequently, cross-sectional images of a manikin phantom head obtained via computed tomography were reconstructed into a three-dimensional object. An image marker that could be recognized by a mobile device and could allow users to practice dental radiography techniques was devised. The three-dimensional object was augmented to the mobile device; consequently, among 106 stored dental radiographs on the device, a radiograph corresponding to specific imaging conditions was opened when users performed radiographic procedures. This technology could improve dental students' understanding of dental anatomy and contribute to improving their competency in acquiring dental radiographs.

  • A revascularization procedure was shown to be the best alternative therapy for immature teeth with necrotic pulp and apical infection. A 12 year old female with a history of trauma to her upper central incisor and a sinus tract was referred for endodontic treatment. She was an active orthodontic patient and had undergone regenerative endodontic treatment for the past 2 years. Clinical examination revealed no response to sensibility, percussion, and palpation tests. The preoperative radiograph showed an open apex and apical rarefaction. The case was diagnosed as previously treated tooth with asymptomatic apical periodontitis. Regenerative endodontic retreatment was performed, and the case was followed for 3 years. Clinical, radiographic, and cone-beam computed tomography follow-up examination revealed an asymptomatic tooth, with evidence of periapical healing and root maturation.

  • The absorption coefficient of contrast media was measured in region of diagnostic radiology. Relative values of absorption coefficient was found the largest peak in the range of $60{\sim}70\;kVp$ for barium sulfate and 60 kVp for iodine. Increasing the thickness of contrast media and patient, the values of absorption coefficient was rising. In the Radiograph, desired $70{\sim}80\;kVp$ in the gastrointestinal digestion tract with barium sulfate and the vascular tract is before and behind 65 kVp of exposure.
