A low-cost, large area, random, maskless texturing scheme independent of crystal orientation is expected to significantly impact terrestrial photovoltaic technology. We investigated silicon surface microstructures formed by reactive ion etching (RIE) in Multi-Hollow cathode system. Desirable texturing effect has been achieved when radio-frequency (rf) power of about 20 Watt per one hollow cathode glow is applied for our RF Multi-Hollow cathode system. The black silicon etched surface shows almost zero reflectance in the visible region as well as in near IR region. The etched silicon surface is covered by columnar microstructures with diameters from 50 to 100 nm and depth of about 500 nm. We have successfully achieved 11.7% efficiency of mono-crystalline silicon solar cell and 10.2% multi-crystalline silicon solar cell.

This paper summarizes the recent fabrication and characterizations of flexible high-speed radio frequency (RF) transistors, PIN-diode single-pole single-throw switches, as well as flexible inductors and capacitors, based on single-crystalline Si nanomembranes transferred on polyethylene terephthalate substrates. Flexible thin-film transistors (TFTs) on plastic substrates have reached RF operation speed with a record cut-off/maximum oscillation frequency ($f_T/f_{max}$) values of 3.8/12 GHz. PIN diode switches exhibit excellent ON/OFF behaviors at high RF frequencies. Flexible inductors and capacitors compatible with high-speed TFT fabrication show resonance frequencies ($f_{res}$) up to 9.1 and 13.5 GHz, respectively. Robust mechanical characteristics were also demonstrated with these high-frequency passives components.

Inventory Management has become a very important issue in supply chain management, because inventories may be used as a means to accomplish the certain strategic goals in company decisions. RFID(radio frequency identification) technology is used to help manage inventories. It is known that the ideal control of inventories is to replenish item by item. This paper points out several misinterpretations from the Wal-mart report presented in '07 Seoul Forum and suggests the new direction of RFID application. In this paper we consider RFID as not 'identification technology' but 'information technology.' The 'RF-Kanban' suggested here is adopted from the'Kanban'concept of TPS(Toyota Production System). The RF-Kanban system shows the easier control for replenishing various items in boxes. Lots of inventories can be reduced through RF-Kanban System. This work develops the protocol of RF-Kanban and introduces the case study for easier understanding.

This research discusses the change in radio frequency (RF) characteristics according to the number of Gores on the deployable mesh antennas for potential micro-satellite applications. The deployable type of lightweight mesh antenna can be used for various space missions such as communication/SAR/ SIGINT. In order to implement an ideal curvature of antenna surface, sufficient number of antenna rib structures are required. However, the increase in antenna ribs affects various design factors of the antenna system, especially total system mass, complexity of deployable mechanism and reliability. In this paper, the proper number of ribs for the mesh antenna were derived by comparison of electro-magnetic (EM) simulation results of example of antenna model in accordance with the various number of ribs.

Digital Radio Frequency Memory, ( as DRFM ), is a device with the ability to restore output to the input RF signal in the required time after storing the incoming RF signals. Therefore DRFM is widely used in Jammer, EW Simulator, Target Echo Generator, and so on. This paper proposes its hardware implementation composed with the high frequency part and the digital processing part consisting of RF input/output module and local oscillator module. It is also proposed the replicated signal generation method which is consisted of the Analog-Digital conversion in the form of pulsed RF signal quantization, and FPGA to save and produce the playback signal, and RF signals to produce a Digital-Analog Conversion in the digital processing unit. This proposed scheme applied to test board and confirmed the validity of the proposed scheme through the test results obtained by the simulated input signals.
This paper presents a general-purpose design scheme of a filter bank (FB)-based radio frequency (RF) transceiver that operates across the entire ultra-high frequency (UHF) TV band from 470 MHz to 698 MHz and complies with the TV white space (TVWS) regulatory requirements. To this end, an intermediate frequency (IF) band-pass filter (BPF) with a sharp skirt characteristic is considered as a solution for handling the incoming signals from a baseband modem. Specifically, an FB-based BPF structure with four ceramic resonator filters that effectively rejects unwanted signals is proposed to extract a desired signal in the TV band. Achievable data rates of a cognitive radio system (CRS) employing the proposed FB-based RF transceiver at the application layer are investigated in both wired and wireless environments. The service coverage of the CRS network is measured according to several modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) of the CRS. The results show that the coverage of a wireless network in a nearly open area can be extended by more than 9.3 km in the TVWS. Experimental results also confirm that the proposed FB-based RF transceiver is adequate for utilization in TVWS applications.
Optical wireless communication, or free space optics, is a promising solution for backhauls in sixth-generation mobile systems. However, the susceptibility of optical links to weather conditions has led to FSO links being furnished with radio frequency (RF) backups. These Hybrid FSO/RF systems provide enhanced link availability but lead to RF resource wastage. Cognitive radio technology, in contrast, is well known for its optimal use of RF resources and may be combined with an FSO link to create a Cognitive Hybrid FSO/RF system. This work uses such a system to analyze a configuration for a mobile backhaul in sixth-generation mobile systems. This configuration can seamlessly coexist with established large scale RF cellular networks. The performance of this configuration is analyzed with respect to outage probability and average bit error by considering the impact of optical channel turbulence, misalignment loss, RF interference, and noise. Mathematical closed-form expressions are verified by simulations.
Free-space optical (FSO) communication is considered to be a potential solution to congestion in the radio-frequency spectrum and last-mile-access bottleneck issues in future cellular communication networks, such as 5G and beyond. However, FSO link performance may degrade significantly due to irradiance fluctuations and random temporal fluctuations from atmospheric turbulence. Therefore, in this work the main objective is to reduce the effect of the atmospheric turbulence by considering a multihop FSO communication system with amplify-and-forward relaying supported by a radio-frequency (RF) link, which form a hybrid FSO/RF communication system. The FSO link is assumed to follow the gamma-gamma fading model, which represents strong turbulence. Also, the RF link is modeled by a Rayleigh distribution. The performance of the considered system, in terms of the outage probability and average bit-error rate (BER), is investigated and analyzed under various weather conditions and pointing errors. Furthermore, the effect of the number of employed relay nodes on the performance of the system is investigated. The results indicate that the considered system reduces outage probability and average BER significantly, especially for low channel quality. Finally, the closed-form expressions derived in this work are compared to the results of Monte Carlo simulations, for verification.

Numerical analysis on RF (Radio-Frequency) thermal plasma treatment of micro-sized Ni metal was carried out to understand the synthesis mechanism of nano-sized Ni powder by RF thermal plasma. For this purpose, the behaviors of Ni metal particles injected into RF plasma torch were investigated according to their diameters ($1{\sim}100{\mu}m$), RF input power (6 ~ 12 kW) and the flow rates of carrier gases (2 and 5 slpm). From the numerical results, it is predicted firstly that the velocities of carrier gases need to be minimized because the strong injection of carrier gas can cool down the central column of RF thermal plasma significantly, which is used as a main path for RF thermal plasma treatment of micro-sized Ni metal. In addition, the residence time of the injected particles in the high temperature region of RF thermal plasma is found to be also reduced in proportion to the flow rate of the carrier gas In spite of these effects of carrier gas velocities, however, calculation results show that a Ni metal particle even with the diameter of $100{\mu}m$ can be completely evaporated at relatively low power level of 10 kW during its flight of RF thermal plasma torch (< 10 ms) due to the relatively low melting point and high thermal conductivity. Based on these observations, nano-sized Ni metal powders are expected to be produced efficiently by a simple treatment of micro-sized Ni metal using RF thermal plasmas.

This paper demonstrates a new radio frequency (RF) resonator at 3 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. An approach based on a split ring resonator (SRR) having effective metamaterial properties is investigated. Electromagnetic simulation results are compared for RF resonators and discussed in detail at 3 T. A new RF resonator has approximately 10% higher magnetic fields at the center of the human phantom than the previous RF resonator.
