Michael Williams, in his paper, rejects the wide-accepted view that Donald Davidson's radical interpretation is a truth conditional account of meaning, and suggests a claim that robust truth in fact does not play any role in Davidson's interpretation and thus interpretation can be in accord with the deflationary theory of truth. In this paper, I will first research the right understanding on the explanatory relations in radical interpretation between truth and meaning, and on that ground, will evaluate the adequacy of Williams' suggestion. My diagnosis is that the acceptability of Williams' idea depends on how we regard the several factors which are crucial for interpretation. Especially I will argue that whether truth condition is regarded as deflationary or inflationary makes difference to the way of understanding radical interpretation, hence the room for taking radical interpretation as deflationary can be in two different ways. Furthermore I will show the same argument can be applied to Williams' another claim that Paul Horwich's use theory of meaning is similar to Davidson's account.
Researches have shown that learning science frequently requires the process of conceptual change. As a result, many of the constructivist teaching and loaming approaches focus on this kind of loaming. In approaches that focus on conceptual change, cognitive conflict strategies play a key role. Students, however, still have much difficulty in loaming science. Theoretically, it underlies Piaget's genetic epistemology in which disequilibration demands an interplay between assimilation and accommodation until equilibrium is restored. Also, radical constructivism has its roots in a variety of disciplines, but has been most profoundly influenced by the theories of lean Piaget as interpreted and extended by Glasersfeld. This study is intended to interpret the conceptual change from radical constructivist perspective and explain difficulties of conceptual change which students have in learning science.

In our search for bioactive phenolics from plants, the culms of Phyllostachys bambusoides has been selected for investigation of anti-cariogenic and 1,1-diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging agents based on the initial screening results. Fractionation process of n-hexane and $CHCl_3$ extracts afforded four phenolic constituents, ferulic acid (1), vanillin (2), coniferaldehyde (3), and coniferyl alcohol (4) as guided by their DPPH free radical scavenging activities. Additionally, activity-guided fractionation of EtOAc extract with anti-cariogenic activity has resulted in the isolation of coniferaldehyde (3), 2,6-dimethoxy-p-benzoquinone (5), p-methoxycinnamic acid (6), (${\pm}$)-balanophonin (7), and 6-methoxychromanone (8). The structures of 1 - 8 were determined by spectroscopic data interpretation, and also by comparison of their data with the published values. Phenolic compounds 1 - 4 exhibited similar DPPH radical scavenging activities compared with the synthetic antioxidant, butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), and compounds 3 and 5 - 8 showed significant antibacterial activity against cariogenic oral streptococci, Streptococcus mutans and S. sobrinus.
This essay attempts to evaluate the pessimistic induction within the case of the historical development of space-time theories, which are claimed to undergo a radical ontological change providing evidence for the pessimistic induction. In my view, this claim misleads us to see the discontinuity of the structure of classical and relativistic space-time by means of a doubtful interpretation of space-time theories, which holds that space-time causally explains the phenomena of motions.
Constructivism is defined in a variety of ways (e.g., constructivist research paradigm, sociological constructivism, and philosophical constructivism) and applied in vastly different contexts. Among the various usages and interpretations of constructivism, one is educational constructivism that embodies an epistemological view of knowledge and learning that is an alternative to naive empiricism or classical behaviorism. To represent the full range of stances taken by educational constructivists, three versions of educational constructivism were considered in this study: individual constructivism originating in the work of Piaget, the radical version of constructivism associated with von Glasersfeld, and the social constructivism of Vygotsky. I investigated preservice teachers' meaning construction about constructivist epistemology as they went through their preservice teacher education program using in-depth interviews. This preservice teacher education program employs constructivist aspects of teacher education and generates applications of constructivism to the practice of teaching. Features of preservice teachers' internalized meanings of educational constructivism include: (1)traditional pedagogy as the default, (2) Literal interpretation of constructivism, (3) Individual constructivism as conceptual change learning, (4) Radical constructivism as a strong individualistic philosophy, (5) Social constructivism as being too ideal to be practical. A compilation of the teachers' own statements about how to implement conceptual change learning and their projected role as constructivist teacher is also provided.
Copolymers (PSAA) of styrene-acrylic acid were prepared through a free radical mechanism using azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator. The fluorescence emission spectra of PSAA and the styrene-acrylic acid copolymers complexed with $Eu^{3+}$ (PSAA-Eu) were studied. The excimer fluorescence, centered at 330 nm, increases when the styrene mole fraction increases. Since the excimer fluorescence intensities of PSAA-EU, PSAA-Tb and PSAA-Eu-Tb were almost same, it appears that the kind of metal ion does not affect the excimer fluorescence. An interpretation of the results which takes into account the statistical composition of the copolymers, indicates that energy migration can occur from isolated to non-isolated styrene units.
On the purpose of development of antioxidative compounds from natural sources, 38 plants known to have antioxidant activity have been examined concerning DPPH radical scavenging activity. Among 13 plants exhibiting the activity, the seed of Carthamus tinctorius L, was selected as resources to search for active compounds due to rareness of study. The seed of the plant has been used as edible oil or preventive and remedial drugs for osteoporosis, arthritis. To reveal the principal component manifesting the antioxidant activity, the MeOH extracts was successively solvent-fractionated with EtOAc, n-BuOH and water. In order to isolate active component from the EtOAc fractions, application of silica gel column chromatographies and activity tests were repeated for a active component to be isolated. Its chmical structure was determined to be N-feruloylserotonin, a conjugated serotonin compound, by the interpretation of spectral data, NMR. MS and the adaptation of chemical reactions.
UCP 600 Article 14(b), providing rules for the period of the examination of documents, is a radical reorganization of UCP Article 13(b). The provision changes the period of time to a maximum of five banking days instead of reasonable time. One of the critical problems giving rise to the difficulty in interpretation and application is the question of fact that there may be two possible conflicting options in determining the time of checking documents presented. The one doctrine is fixed time(safe harbor) standard, and the other is hidden reasonableness standard. This study analyzes which option should be adopted for the optimal application standard by welfare effect methodology using consumer surplus approach and suggests that safe harbor standard should be optimal solution to the determination of period of examination of documents presented in letter of credit regime.

The move from steel tubes to bent wood and the 'laboratory experiments' with wood which Aalto carried out in order to create furniture gave him vital impulses as he sought and found his own architecture style in the 1930s. Like his architecture Aalto's chair designs represent a 'humanized' interpretation of the severe aesthetic and radical technological experimentation of the Modern Movement. The purpose of this study is to find what is the result of the form of his works on the basis of main idea and tend of his works, to search the element and principle of formal composition, to establish the relation-ship between the architect's philosophy and the form of his works. Aalto's furniture, constructed of laminate bent wood or moulded plywood, is not only functionalistic, but also ideal for the psychological need of the people, which is the special quality that complements the Factionalism that features mostly on the metal tube furniture. It shows that Aalto is a humanist dealing with mechanized age.

Discussions on this paper are related to the effects of organic materials to treeing phenomena of low density polyethylene. As additives, 11 kinds of organic compounds are selected by considering the respective features such as melting point, boiling point, electron affinity as well as molecular structure, and then the specimens of low density polyethylene are prepared by blending with 10wt% of the selected additives. For the comparison of effectiveness of treeing resistance and interpretation of the mechanism of compounds as treeing retardants, several investigations such as the tree acceleration test, the prestressed test and the measurement of internally occurred partial discharge are carried out. As the results, meta-Cresol is regard as the most effective retardant among those, and it is supposed that this aromatic compound to be comprised of radical having large electron affinity has strong capability to accept energetic electron to prevent or delay the growth of discharge streamer. Furthermore, by activating partial discharge at the wall of tree pit through the function of trapped electron at this material, the gas pressure in the pit is increased up to prevent the growth of streamer.
