Small-Size and High-Isolation MIMO Antenna for WLAN

  • A small-sized ($15mm{\times}30mm$) planar monopole MIMO antenna that offers high-isolation performance is presented in this letter. The antenna is miniaturized using inductive coupling within a meander-line radiator and capacitive coupling between a radiator and an isolator. High isolation is achieved by a T-shaped stub attached to the ground plane between two radiators, which also contributes to the small size using a folded structure and the capacitive coupling with radiators. The proposed antenna operates for the WLAN band within 2.4 GHz to 2.483 GHz. The measured isolation (S21) is about -30 dB, and the envelope correlation coefficient is less than 0.1.

중형 차량 엔진룸에서의 유동해석에 관한 연구 (Study of Flow Analysis of a Mid-size Vehicle in an Engine Room)

  • Flow distribution of a mid-size vehicle in engine room was investigated numerically to analyze the flow performance of given design cases in a front body of the mid-size vehicle. The data analyzed are the mass flow rate at the upper and lower openings, in the radiator, and the degree of non-uniformity of the velocity field at the inlet of the radiator. It is presented that the shape of the front end and the presence of the undercover greatly affect the flow fields, therefore, the flow performance.

차량용 라디에이터의 열 해석 (Thermal Analysis of Vehicle Radiator)

  • This study analyzes the thermal stress at automotive radiators on steady and transient states. The maximum displacement is shown at the lower corner of upper tank with the value of 0.51mm. The displacement becomes smaller at the center of radiator and it becomes larger at this edge. The maximum thermal stress with the value of 62 MPa is shown at the contact between upper tank and cooling plate. Thermal maximum stress with the transient state at the elapsed time of 10 second is lower than that at steady state as much as 0.7%.

  • The performance of louver-finned flat-tube and fin & tube radiators for computer CPU liquid cooling were experimentally investigated. In this study, 7 samples of radiators with different shape and pass number (1, 2, 10) were tested in a wind tunnel. The experiments were conducted under the different air velocity range from 1 to 4 m/s. The water flow rate through a pass was 1.2 LPM. Inlet temperatures of air and water were $20^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$ respectively. It was found that the best performance was observed in the louver-finned flat-tube sample considering pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient.

  • A Plate type pipe is used for heat exchange in radiator of a vehicle. The pipe has several rooms through which water flows and heat is dissipated into outside . In the case that there are small holes, cracks or some scratches on the plate, the radiators lost their functions due to Leakage. This may result in overheating of engine in a car. Thus, we need to perform the entire inspection of the plate type pipe in advance before assembling the radiator. In manufacturing process of the plate type pipe, the productive speed is very high and that may be performed continuously. So, there is no room to perform the outlook inspection by typical image processing techniques. This paper proposes a new method to inspect the outlook surface of the plate type pipe automatically with high speed. Especially, the sequential processing technique of an algorithm which detects defects on the surfaces of the plate type pipe is proposed for line scan camera which captures line image. To evaluate the inspection performance, a series of experiments is performed.

  • In this work, it has been predicted the thermal performance of the engine cooling system in cases of stationary mode, constant speed mode, city-drive mode, and hill-climb mode by theoretical modeling of each component and numerical analysis. The modelling components are engine, radiator, heater, thermostat, water-pump, and cooling-fan. And also it has been developed the simulation program that can be used in case of design and system configuration changes. The comparison has not been made to verify the results of this work with experimental data, but the overall tendencies were agreed well with those of actual situation in four modes.

  • The recent trend of higher output engines with more auxiliary parts is resulting in greater heat generation in the engine compartment. In order to maximize the heat dissipation and eliminate the inefficient flow in the engine compartment, it is necessary to understand the flow field under the hood. In this respect, experimental study as well as numerical analysis should be conducted. The automated measuring system was constructed to obtain three dimensional mean flow data with high accuracy. The measurements have been made on a vehicle with a steady incoming air flow. The result shows that there exists a high degree of non-uniformity in the mean flow velocity at the front of radiator.

  • Four types of different flow inlet models were tested to improve the flow uniformity at the inlet of the radiator and to prevent thermal damages of auxiliary units from the hot air in the bus engine room. Measurements and numerical calculations were performed and their results were in a good agreement with each other. Simultaneously temperature measurements were carried out under the conditions of actual bus driving. As designing the new flow inlet at the partition board which seperates the engine space and radiator space, flow circulation can be achieved and fresh air comes into the engine room from the bottom. It was proved that new inlet makes the one air temperature cooling down in the engine room, the other uniformity improvement.

소형버스 냉각성능 향상 연구(I) (Study for the Cooling Performance Improvement of a Mini Bus)

  • This study was initiated to evaluate the cooling performance of CAC (charged air cooler) and radiator in the engine room of a mini bus. So we had firstly to predict the mass flow rate coming from radiator grille and front bum per opening using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation based on 3D configuration. And simulations were carried out for different cooling module layout and bum per opening hole size on sam e vehicle operating condition. Simulation results show that CAC cooling performance at reverse protecting plate-applying model was much efficient than that of the bum per opening hole size-increasing model in IMTD point of view. Part of the CFD simulation results was com pared to with experimental data. It was confirm ed that the CFD approach using STAR-CD based on pursuing no-com promise solution could provide design engineers with useful design information in the early design stage of vehicle development.

  • This paper presents the temperature distribution of the oil-immersed self-cooled transformer with radiator performed by coupled magneto-fluid-thermal analysis. Particularly, 3D temperature distribution of cooling oil and sub-components under the natural convection is obtained by computational fluid dynamics analysis, while heat sources are predetermined by magnetic field analysis using F.E.M. The predicted temperature distribution of the power transformer model is compared with the measured data for verifying the validity of the proposed analysis.
