  • A the dependent model for wail-stabilized local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) arcs has been used to examine the high-pressure sodium vapor arc. Arc properties including temperature, electrical conductivity, and optically thick and optically thin radiation fluxes were calculated as functions of radius and time.

  • Estimation of the general along-track acceleration was performed in the KOMPSAT-1 orbit determination process. Several sets of the atmospheric drag and solar radiation pressure coefficients were also derived with the different spacecraft area. State vectors in the orbit determination with the different spacecraft area were compared in the time frame. The orbit prediction using the estimated coefficients was performed and compared with the orbit determination results. The orbit prediction with the different general acceleration values was also carried out for the comparison.

  • Although many defects in PZR heater sleeve have been reported continually from operating experiences in oversea nuclear power plant, utilities get into difficulties in finding appropriate methods for diagnostics of the components due to the limited access or high radiation problems. Recently, as an alternative, diagnostics using Guided Wave Testing(GWT) are proposed and the attention of the methods has been growing gradually because of their long range inspection capability. This study is to investigate the effectiveness of GWT to detect PWSCC in welding points of PZR heater sleeve. Moreover, mode sensitivity analysis of GWT and optimal frequency for the diagnostics of PWSCC are presented by testing the mock-ups specimens that contain artificial flaws.

  • The characteristics of the fluid flow and mass transfer in a vertical atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition (APCVD) are numerically studied. In order to get the optimal process parameters for the uniformity of deposition on a substrate, Navier-Stokes and energy equations have been solved for the pressure, mass-flow rate and temperature distribution in a CVD reactor. Results show that the thermal boundary condition at the reactor wall has an important effect in the formation of buoyancy-driven secondary cell when radiation effect is considered. Results also show that reduction of the buoyancy effect on the heated reactor improves the uniformity of deposition.

  • The ignition of monomethylamine was studied in reflected shock waves over the temperature range of 1255- 1579 K and the pressure range of 1.04-1.51 bar. The ignition delay time was measured by the sudden increase of pressure profile and the radiation emitted by OH radicals. The relationship between the ignition delay time and the concentrations of monomethylamine and oxygen was determined in the form of mass-action expressions with an Arrhenius temperature dependence. In contrast to the behavior observed in hydrocarbons, monomethylamine acts to accelerate rather than inhibit its own ignition. And numerical modeling of the ignition of $CH_3NH_2$ has also been carried out to test the several kinetic mechanisms.

  • A ship may suffer sinkage and heel due to flood in a compartment caused by damage on a deck. The motion and waveloads of the heeled ship floating in waves have been analyzed by making use of a three dimensional potential theory taking account of the hydrodynamic pressure in the flooded compartments. The shear forces and bending moments due to radiation-diffraction waves have been calculated by the direct integration of the 3-d hydrodynamic pressure on the outer and inner hulls of floating barges. The motion responses and the relative flow rate across the mean free surface of the water in the flooded compartments are also presented.

  • In this paper, the radiated sound pressure induced by low velocity impact is obtained by solving the Rayleigh integral equation. For structurally radiated noise, the sound field is directly coupled to the structural motion. Therefore the impact response should be analyzed. It is well known that the presence of the delamination in a composite laminate introduces a local flexibility which changes the dynamic characteristic of the structure. The 2-D simplified delamination model is used to analyze the impact response. And the 3-D non-linear finite element model is developed using gap element to avoid the overlap and penetration between the upper and lower sub-laminates at delamination region. Predicted impact response using 2-D equivalent delamination model are compared with the numerical ones from the 3-D non-linear finite element model.

  • The purpose of this work is to predict the low frequency aero-acoustic noise generated from the horizontal axis wind turbine, NREL Phase VI using large eddy simulation and Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings model provided in the commercial code, FLUENT. Calculated aerodynamic performances such as shaft torque and power are compared with experimentally measured value. Performance results show a good agreement with experimental data within about 0.8%. If the distance by two times is changed from 32D to 64D toward the downstream region, sound pressure level is reduced by about 6.4dB.

  • Underwater acoustic materials are installed in order to reduce reflection, transmission and radiation of an underwater structure. The acoustic performance of the materials should be evaluated in accurately-controlled environment in terms of temperature and static pressure. In this paper, three pulse tubes, which is equipped with temperature and pressure controllers, are designed and developed to evaluate echo reduction and transmission loss for evaluating the performance below 10 kHz and 30kHz, respectively. The new procedures of the evaluation are suggested to improve the accuracy and the validation for the developed pulse tubes is carried out by comparing theoretical values to experimental ones.

  • This study presents a model of the electrical characteristics of the high-pressure mercury vapour arc discharge. Energy balance equation per unit volume of the arc tube is converted into the one per unit length by assuming the parabolic radial temperature distribution and integrating over the cross-section of the tube. Using this energy balance equation, together with the circuit equation and Ohm's law, the arc voltage and current variation for 1 cycle is numerically calculated and a good result is obtained. A simple method to calculate the axis temperature of the arc tube and the radiation output is also presented.
