  • The radiation characteristics of flanged parabolic antenna with microwave absorber are examined in order to reduce the backward scattered field. As a result, the unwanted radiation is suppressed and the wide angle radiation pattern from 100 is improved by about 10 - 18 dB in comparison with the ordinary antenna.

  • The radiation pattern of a rectangular-grid array antenna consisted of rectangular waveguides is represented by multiplication of its element and array factors. Calculated radiation patterns for excitation of TES110T mode inside the waveguides suffer from the blindness at a particular direction on E-plane. Numerical simulations show that the blindness can be removed by inserting dielectric plug inside the waveguides or covering dielectric sheath in front of the waveguides.

  • In this paper, a comparative study on the radiation techniques for the motion analysis of the three dimensional floating structure with the forward speed was carried out. The Sommerfeld radiation condition, the damping technique, and the point shift technique were used for the comparative study. Radiated wave patterns and hydrodynamic coefficients of the heave motion of floating structure with the forward speed were compared and analyzed. The characteristics and limitations of each radiation technique were analyzed through the calculation results. To overcome the limitations of conventional radiation techniques, the hybrid radiation technique combining the Sommerfeld radiation condition with the damping technique was proposed. It is confirmed that the proposed method, the Hybrid radiation technique, improves the limitation of the speed range and the dissipation of the wave of the conventional radiation technique. The motion analysis code of the three dimensional floating structure with the forward speed based on the Rankine source method with hybrid radiation technique was developed. In order to validate the developed code, hydrodynamic analyses were carried and compared with published experiments.

  • Purpose : This study was peformed to determine the optimal radiation therapy field for the treatment of malignant astrocytoma and glioblastoma multiforme. Materials and Methods : From Jan. 1994 to Mar. 2000, 21 patients with malignant astrocytoma and glioblastoma multiforme, confirmed as recurrent by follow up MRI after surgery and radiation therapy, were analyzed. The distance from the margin of the primary lesion to the recurrent lesion was measured. The following factors were analyzed to Investigate the influence of these factors to recurrence pattern; tumor size, degree of edema, surgical extent, gamma knife radiosurgery and multiple lesions. Results : Among the 21 patients, 18 $(86\%)$ were recurred within 2 cm from the primary lesion site. 12 within 1 cm, 6 between 1 and 2 cm. The other 3 patients all with multiple lesions, were recurred at 3, 4, 5 cm, from the primary lesion site. The recurrence pattern was not influenced by the factors of tumor size, extent of edema, surgical extent, or gamma knife radiosurgery. However, patients with multiple lesions showed a tendency of recurrence at sites further from the primary lesion. Conclusions : Most $(86\%)$ of the recurrences of malignant astrocytoma and glioblastoma multiforme occurred within 2 cm from the primary lesion site. The width of treatment field does not need to be changed according to tumor size, degree of edema, surgical extent, or gamma knife radiosurgery. However, the treatment field for multiple lesions appears to be wider than that for a single lesion.

  • Mutual radiation impedance becomes more important in the design and analysis of acoustic transducers for higher power, better beam pattern, and wider bandwidth at low frequency sonar systems. This review paper focused on literature survey about the researches of mutual radiation impedance in the acoustic transducer arrays over 60 years. The papers of mutual radiation impedance were summarized in terms of transducer array structures on various baffle geometries such as planar, cylindrical, spherical, conformal, spheroidal, and elliptic cylindrical arrays. Then the computation schemes of solving conventional quadruple integral in the definition of mutual radiation impedance were surveyed including spatial convolution method, which reduces the quadruple integral to a double integral for efficient computation.

  • The SRS method is applied to a turbulent flame with radiation/turbulence interaction to invert the temperature and concentration profile. The flame is conditioned as optically thin per each fluctuation length and the flame spectral intensity is measured for inversion. From inversion result, we find that SRS can successfully invert the coupled temperature/concentration fluctuation amplitudes. For two cases of experiments, inverted values are within approximately 1% over the full range of fluctuation amplitude. However, SRS cannot find the detailed local fluctuation parameters such as pattern and phase, etc. as far as they do not affect the resulting radiation intensity. Important available parameters are the mean temperature and the temperature fluctuation amplitude. The radiation/turbulence interaction effect is verified to play an important role in the radiation.

  • We have developed the prototype Multi-leaf Collimator(MLC) for medical linear acclerator. In this study, we have examined the clinical effectiveness of our newly developed MLC by analysing treatment pattern of radiation therapy and studied the radiation safety by measuring the transmitted radiation and the leakage radiation. Over 81% patients can be treated with new MLC(20 pairs of leaves) and 98% with 30 pairs of leafed-MLC, while 95% with commercial MLC. New MLC showed superior properties of radiation leakage and transmission to commercially available MLC.

  • In this paper, radiation pattern of rectangular microstrip patch antenna with anisotropy substrates and superstrate is studied by using a rigorous full-wave approach and a moment method calculation. Dyadic Green's function is derived for selected anisotropy material by constitutive relation. From these results, integral equations of electric fields are formulated. The electric field integral equations are discretized into the matrix form by applying Galerkin's moment method and then the current coefficients are obtained.. After solving the current coefficients, the far-zone electric field in spherical coordinates can be obtained by using the stationary phase method. To verify the validity of numerical result, we compare our result with existing one and get a good agreement between them. From the numerical results, the radiation patterns for variation of uniaxial superstrate thickness, anisotropy ratio of substrate and superstrate layer are presented and analyzed.

  • We present two effects of the case currents of a mobile phone on changing the radiation pattern of a PIFA and on enhancing the bandwidth of the monopole antenna. In order to change the radiation pattern, a modification of the ground plane is suggested to suppress the back radiation. The resulting gain is higher than that of a conventional PIFA by 0.5 dB. For enhancing the bandwidth, two parasitic metallic lines are added in the direction orthogonal to the monopole to induce double resonances. The impedance bandwidth of the proposed structure is 341 MHz, which is nearly twice of that of the conventional monopole.

  • In this paper, a planar antenna with monopole-like radiation pattern for on-body communications is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of three split-rings(SR) to generate a monopole-like radiation characteristic. To account for the on-body application, the proposed antenna is designed to have a low-profile. The antenna has an overall dimensions of $0.29{\lambda}_0{\times}0.29{\lambda}_0{\times}0.008{\lambda}_0$ at 5.8 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical(ISM) band(5.725~5.875 GHz). To verify the body effect, a two-thirds muscle equivalent semi solid phantom is fabricated and used to measure the antenna performance. The 10-dB return loss bandwidth is 280 MHz(5.68~5.96 GHz) and the measured peak gain is 1.91 dBi.
