  • Electromagnetic compatibility(EMC) performance of the first Korea space launch vehicle(KSLV-I) should be ensured and verified in order to guarantee the normal operation among the spacecraft, ground facilities which are installed in the space center, and other wireless communication networks. For the purpose of the EMC performance verification, pertinent EMC test specifications, methods, and procedures for both the subsystems and the system should be established in consideration of operational properties and electromagnetic environmental effects. And it is required to maintain and control the EMC properties consistently in accordance with the determined specifications up to the program closing phase. In this paper, sequential management work conducted during the overall development process of the KSLV-I is explained, and not only the phased EMC test plan for each model of the KSLV-I and its subsystem but also test method, specification, and results of the verification tests are presented. And also, multipaction analysis results are presented.

  • In this study, the investigation results of conducted and radiated emission for DC/DC converter circuit applied in electric vehicles are presented. A frequency spreading circuit was used to improve the EMI characteristics of a power converter designed by using MPQ4433 chip. The frequency spreading circuit using a TLV3201 chip was designed and applied to the power converter. A PCB was fabricated based on the EMI minimization procedures and simulated and measured results were presented for the far-field and near-field conducted and radiated emissions using the fabricated circuit. The measurement were done as CISPR 25 standardized test procedures. It is clearly showed that the EMI characteristics were improved 20% in case frequency spreading was applied. The EMI reduction technique using the frequency spreading proposed in this study was first applied to the design of power converter module for automobile. It is expected that the method presented here can be effectively used for EMI improvement in the future.

  • In this paper, the effect of the gap in the ground plane on the electromagnetic interference (EMI) is analyzed quantitatively. Because of a lot of advantages compared to other numerical techniques, the FDTD (finite difference time domain) is applied to the EMI effect modeling. The analyzed model is the simplified PCB (printed circuit board) which has a microstrip and ground plane. The inductance induced by the gap is modeled and calculated by gridding the whole PCB based on the FDTD algorithm. When external cables are attached to the PCB, the common-mode current is induced along the attached cable and the resulting electric field strength is calculated and presented along with the FCC and CISPR EMI limits. The results show that the radiated field strength highly depends on the size of the ground plane gap. The numerical simulation results can be used as a reference in the practical PCB design with the ground plane gap.

  • In this study, an investigation study on EMC(Electromagnetic Compatibility) is presented for power converter circuit. A DC-DC power converter circuit using LT3652 chip is designed and fabricated. The simulation results using ANSYS SIwave for far field radiation and unwanted emissions are presented. To minimize the unwanted emissions, we design a optimized circuit by using capacitors and ground posts. The conducted and radiation emissions are measured in the EMC test chamber based on standardized testing procedures of CISPR 22. The measured EMI emission values for a power converter circuit are presented and compared with the original circuit. The results show that the unwanted emissions from the circuit are tremendously diminished due to the applied EMI reduction techniques. The results proposed here can be usefully applied on designing power converter modules.

  • - A car is a means of transporting passengers or cargo on the ground by transmitting power from the engine to the wheels. In the past, automobiles started from internal combustion engines have recently been introduced with hybrid electric vehicles and pure electric vehicles. As a result, the deployment of high-tech electrical and electronic products is inevitably increased due to the development of technology and stability of various parts, resulting in a more complicated and diversified electromagnetic environment. CISPR 25 is conducting research on the test method for electromagnetic noise. In order to analyze the noise pattern according to the GND condition required in the radiation emission test, various conditions are applied for comparison. 2 Page - General characteristics of EMI chambers, techniques for testing and measuring equipmen 3 Page - RE test : Analysis of Noise due to Ground Strap Change when Sample is in Center, Analysis of Noise due to Ground Strap Changes when the Sample is not in the Center.

  • In this study, a simulation investigation was conducted on the method of reducing switching noise and spurious emission among design methods for step-down DC-DC converter modules for automotive. A typical 4-layer converter circuit using a PMIC(Power Management Integrated Circuit) chip was presented, and the simulation results of conductive emissions at two input terminals (+, -) and the point between the input filter and the PMIC was performed in the 1.0~5.0MHz band and the 100MHz band. The results for the conducted and radiated emissions in the HF(3~30MHz) and VHF(30-300MHz) bands were presented. It showed an improvement of about 10dB over the bands by routing the output terminal placed on the 3 or 4-layer in the opposite direction to the input terminal. The result of this study is expected to be useful in the design of the DC-DC converter modules in the future because it gives a better improvement compared to the existing methods.

  • Coal samples with different joints morphology were subjected to uniaxial compression experiments, cracks evolution was recorded by Nikon D5300 and acoustic emission (AE) energy signals were collected by AEwin Test for Express-8.0. During loading process, coal samples deformed elastically with no obvious cracks changes, then they expanded gradually along the trace of the original cracks, accompanied by the formation of secondary cracks, and eventually produced a large-scale fracture. It was more interesting that the failure mode of samples were all shear shape, whatever the original cracks morphology was. With cracks and damage evolution, AE energy radiated regularly. At the early loading stage, micro damage and small scale fracture events only induced a few AE events with less energy, while large scale fracture leaded to a number of AE events with more energy at the later stage. Based on the multifractal theory, the multifractal spectrum could explain AE energy signals frequency responses and the causes of AE events with load. Multifractal spectrum width (${\Delta}{\alpha}$), could reflect the differences between the large and small AE energy signals. And another parameter (${\Delta}f$) could reflect the relationship between the frequency of the least and greatest signals in the AE energy time series. This research is helpful for us to understand cracks evolution and AE energy signals causes.

  • Generally a return current plane(RCP) of high speed digital and analog part is partitioned. This is achieved in order to decrease the noise interference between subsystem in PCBs(Printed Circuit Boards). However, when the connected signal line exists between each subsystem, this partition will cause unwanted effects. In a EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) point of view, the partition of the return current plane becomes a primary factor to increase the radiated emission. Component bridge(CB) is used for the way of maintaining radiated emission, still specific user's guide doesn't give sufficient principle. In a view point of EMI, design principle of multi-CB using method will be analyzed by measurement. And design principle of noise mitigation will be provided. Generally interval of multi-CB is ${\lambda}/20$ ferrite bead. In this study, When multi-CB connection is applied, design principle of ferrite bead and chip resistor is proved by measurement. Multi-connected chip resistance$(0{\Omega})$ is proved to be more effective design method in the point of EMI.

  • The railway electromagnetic environment is much more severe than most commercial and domestic environments. There are concerns about electromagnetic emissions from railways and their potential to interfere with the operation of commercial radio service and other equipment. EMC standards for railway applications are referenced as EN 50121 series and these standards describe the measurement method and specify limits for emission. However standard provide precise description of the general aspect of the measurement procedure and requirement of test equipments, making a reliable measurement of the radiated emissions from a train is a problem of balance between available observation time and the measurement time required by the characteristics of the measurement system. This paper focuses on the problem of measurement.
