We present the spectroscopic study of the globular clusters (GCs) in the massive elliptical galaxy M86 in the Virgo galaxy cluster. Using the spectra obtained from the Multi-Object Spectroscopy (MOS) mode of Faint Object Camera and Spectrograph (FOCAS) on the Subaru Telescope, we measure the radial velocities for 56 GCs in M86. The mean velocity of the GCs is derived to be $<v_p>=-335{\pm}41km/s$, which is different from the velocity of the M86 nucleus ($<v_{gal}>=-224{\pm}5km/s$) within ${\sim}2.5{\sigma}$. The mean velocity ($<v_p>=-342{\pm}60km/s$) of 33 blue GCs in M86 is similar to that ($<v_p>=-314{\pm}71km/s$) of 23 red GCs. We also derive the mean velocities of the GC systems in other 16 nearby early-type galaxies (ETGs) from the radial velocity data in the literature. The mean value of the differences between the mean velocity of the GC systems in each galaxy and the nucleus velocity of their host galaxies, is almost zero except the M86 GC system. But the scatter of the differences in the blue GC system is larger than that in the red GC system. We will discuss these results in the context of GC formation in ETGs.
We investigate the crustal and uppermost mantle SV- and SH-wave velocity structure and radial anisotropy beneath East Asia including Korea, China and Japan. Rayleigh waves and Love waves were extracted from the seismic data recorded at broadband seismic stations in East Asia. Using the MFT (Multiple Filter Technique), we obtained group velocity dispersion curves of Rayleigh and Love waves with a period range of 3 to 200 s. We obtained 62466 Rayleigh-waves dispersion-curve measurements in vertical components and 54141 Love-waves dispersion-curve measurements in transverse components, respectively. The inverted models using these data sets provide SV- and SH-wave velocity structure of crust and uppermost mantle down to 100 km depth. In both cases of the S-wave velocity structures, strong high-velocity anomalies are observed down to 30 km depth beneath the East Sea, and deeper than 30 km depth, strong low-velocity anomalies are found beneath the Tibetan plateau. In the case of the SH-wave velocity structure, strong low-velocity anomalies are observed beneath the East Sea deeper than 30 km depth, leading to negative anisotropy. On the other hand, positive anisotropy is usually observed beneath the Tibetan plateau.
High resolution spectroscopic observations of BX And using the BOBS (Bohyunsan Optical Echelle Spectrograph) of Bohyunsan Optical Astronomical Observatory (BOAO) were performod during 26-27, Feb. 2003. From the observations, we obtained 38 line spectra of BX And which cover all phases except the phase interval between $0.^p1$ and $0.^p3$. Both methods of the CCF (Cross-Correlation Function) and BF (Broadening Function) were used to get the radial velocities of primary and secondary components. Both velocities of the primary and secondary stars were calculated with the BF method while only primary velocities were determined with the CCF. Using new radial velocity curves, the maximum radial velocities of the primary and secondary stars were obtained as $K_1=90.1km/s\;and\;K_2=196.6km/s$, respectively. New absolute dimension of BX And was deduced with the combination of our spectroscopic solution with the photometric one of Bell et al. (1990).

A quantitative study of impact damage of ${Al_2}}O_3}-TiO_2$ plasma coated soda-lime glasses was carried out and compared with that of the uncoated smooth glass specimen. The shape of cracks by the impact of steel ball was observed by stereo-microscope and the decrease of the bending strength due to the impact of steel ball was measured through the 4-point bending test. At the low velocity, cone cracks were occurred. As the impact velocity increases, initial lateral cracks were propagated on the slanting surface of a cone crack, and radial cracks were generated at the crushed site. When the impact velocity of steel ball exceeds the critical velocity, the contact site of specimen was crushed due to plastic deformation and then radial and lateral cracks were largely grown. Crack length of coated specimens was smaller than that of uncoated smooth specimen due to the effect of coating layer on the substrate surface. According to impact velocity, the bending strength of coated specimens had no significant difference, compared with that of the uncoated smooth specimen. But this represents that the bending strength of coated specimens was increased, considering the effect of sand blasting damage which was performed to increase the adhesion force of coating layer.

Wind profiler and wind lidar produce a vertical profile of winds in high spatiotemporal resolution in the atmospheric boundary layer. The wind lidar makes the wind vector using DBS (Doppler Beam Swinging) and VAD (Velocity Azimuth Display) methods. The DBS method has the advantage of obtaining a wind profile with a fast scan time. On the other hand, there is a restriction that requires at least two beams including vertical beam, which causes a decrease in the data acquisition rate. The VAD method was improved to produce more wind vector of the wind profiler as well as the wind lidar, which generally uses 5 beams. Fourier series was estimated with the radial velocity by the DBS method and wind vector was determined by setting the azimuth interval and applying the radial velocity by the Fourier series to the VAD method. The wind vectors were retrieved at the altitude where the wind was not calculated by the DBS method, and the results of the two methods were consistent.

The flow structure around a rotating axial-fan was experimentally investigated using a phase averaging velocity field measurement technique. The fan blades were divided into 4 different phases, for which 500 velocity fields were acquired for each phase angle with a 2-frame PTV system. Velocity field measurements were also carried out at two planes parallel to the axis of rotation, with offsets toward the radial direction of the fan. For accurate synchronization of the PTV system with the phase of the axial fan, two synchronization circuits were employed with a photo-detector attached to the rotating shaft. The phase averaged velocity fields show periodic variations with respect to the blade phase. The periodic formation of vortices at the blade tip is also observed in vorticity contour plots. Locations of local maximum turbulence intensities in the axial and radial directions are found to be located in an alternating pattern. These experimental results can be used to validate numerical calculations and to understand the flow characteristics of an axial fan.

High-pressure swirl injectors have usually been employed in Gasoline direct injection engines due to their spray characteristics and the feasibility of their control. Thus the microscopic characteristics of high-pressure swirl spray were investigated by PDA. The correlation between axial and radial velocities and the correlation between droplet size and axial velocity were examined with different axial and radial positions. Two dimensional droplet velocity and its number distribution with size-classified droplets were illustrated. The mean droplet velocity and its SMD were also analyzed at the center of spray, the position having maximum mean axial velocity, and the spray periphery using time dividing method. Finally, the structure of high-pressure swirl spray was presented with the size distribution and velocity profile of droplets.
In cells, the microtubules are surrounded by viscoelastic medium. Microtubules, though very small in size, perform a vital role in transportation of protein and in maintaining the cell shape. During performing these functions waves propagate and this propagation of waves has been investigated using nonlocal elastic theory. But the effect of surrounding medium was not taken into account. To fill this gap, this study considers the viscoelastic medium along with nonlocal elastic theory. The analytical formulas of the velocity of waves, and the results reveal that the presence of medium reduces the velocity. The axisymmetric and nonaxisymmetric waves are separately discussed. Furthermore, the results are compared with the results gained from the studies of free microtubules. The presence of medium around microtubules results in the increase of the flexural rigidity causing a significant decrease in radial wave velocity as compared to axial and circumferential wave velocities. The effect of viscoelastic medium is more obvious on radial wave velocity, to a lesser extent on torsional wave velocity and least on longitudinal wave velocity.

We perform a 3D tomographic inversion using surface wave dispersion curves to obtain S-velocity model and radial anisotropy beneath Saudi Arabia. The Arabian Peninsula is geologically and topographically divided into a shield and a platform. We used event data with magnitudes larger than 5.5 and epicentral distances shorter than $40^{\circ}$ during 2008 ~ 2014 from the Saudi Geological Survey. We obtained dispersion curves by using the multiple filtering technique after preprocessing the event data. We constructed SH- and SV-velocity models and consequently radial anisotropy model at 10 ~ 60 km depths by inverting Love and Rayleigh group velocity dispersion curves with period ranges of 5 ~ 140 s, respectively. We observe high-velocity anomalies beneath the Arabian shield at 10 ~ 30 km depths and low-velocity anomalies beneath the Arabian platform at 10 km depth in the SV-velocity model. This discrepancy may be caused by the difference between the Arabian shield and the Arabian platform, that is, the Arabian shield was formed in Proterozoic thereby old and cold, while the Arabian platform is covered by predominant Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic sedimentary layers. Also we obtained radial anisotropy by estimating the differences between SH- and SV-velocity models. Positive anisotropy is observed, which may be generated by lateral tension due to the slab pull of subducting slabs along the Zagros belt.

Atomization characteristics and spatial distribution of the spray emanating from an injector of liquid-propellant thruster are investigated by using dual-mode phase Doppler anemometry (DPDA). Spray characteristic parameters such as the mean velocity, Sauter mean diameter (SMD), and velocity fluctuation are measured at various locations along the spray axis as well as on the radial direction. Those data are quantified in radial profile and also used to scrutinize the correlation between diameter and turbulence intensity of spray droplets. For the better visual grasp, dynamic behavior of spray droplets along the spray stream is presented through the velocity vectors projected on the plane of geometric axis of nozzle orifice and radial coordinate.
