This paper are mainly focusing on the facts influencing on RCS reductions, appling radar absorbing materials by using RCS contributions of elements and appling a metamaterials which is high-tech radar absorbing materials. RCS analysis results are given for a simplified ship model, with radar absorbing materials and metamaterials cause RCS reduction in terms of mean values.
The purpose of this study is to define available microwave absorbing structure for aircraft from in the X-band(8.2~12.4GHz) frequencies. The electromagnetic wave absorption or shielding techniques is an important issue not only for military purpose but also for commercial purposes. Aircraft Radar Absorbing Structure(RAS) is absorbed or scattered propagation waves from the enemy radar. There are absorbing technologies at shaping design techniques and using Radar Absorbing Materials(RAM). RAM is more important because shaping design can't include perfect radar absorbing performance. In this study, based on material properties was introduced RAM and to analyze the each characteristics. Finally, we comparison appropriate RAM for aircraft.
Heavy weight of the camouflage materials was always the main problem. To solve it, the low infrared emissivity fibers with the radar absorbing property (LIFR) were prepared. The low infrared emissivity fibers (LIF) were firstly melt-spun by co-extrusion of polypropylene (PP) and PP/various fillers master-batches using general conjugate spinning. The infrared emissivity of LW with AA and ZnO was decreased respectively compared with that of pure polypropylene fibers. The infrared emissivity of LIF with 15 wt% Al and 2 wt% ZnO in the sheath-part can reach 0.58. To improve LIF radar absorbing property, LIFR was prepared by filling the 50 wt% ferrite and bronze in the core-part of LIF. The radar absorbing efficacy of LIFR was good and the infrared emissivity was low. For the characterization, fiber electron intensity instrument and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used for the analysis of mechanical properties, thermal and crystallization behavior of the spun-fibers. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was carried out to observe the particle distribution of the bicomponent fibers.
The frequency selective surface (FSS) embedded hybrid composite materials have been developed to provide excellent mechanical and specific electromagnetic properties. Radar absorbing structures (RASs) are an example material that provides both radar absorbing properties and structural characteristics. The absorbing efficiency of an RAS can be improved using selected materials having special absorptive properties and structural characteristics and can be in the form of multi-layers or have a certain stacking sequence. However, residual stresses occur in FSS embedded composite structures after co-curing due to a mismatch between the coefficients of thermal expansion of the FSS and the composite material. In this study, to develop an RAS, the thermal residual stresses of FSS embedded composite structures were analyzed using finite element analysis, considering the effect of stacking sequence of composite laminates with square loop (SL) and double square loop (DSL) FSS patterns. The FSS radar absorbing efficiency was measured in the K-band frequency range of 21.6 GHz. Residual stress leads to a change in the deformation of the FSS pattern. Using these results, the effect of transmission characteristics with respect to the deformation on FSS pattern was analyzed using an FSS Simulator.
This paper describes both electromagnetic properties and electromagnetic-wave absorbind (EMA) characteristics of the radar absorbing coating materials in the microwave frequencies. The coating materials are prepared by mixing ferrite powder with epoxy resin polymers. The electromagnetic property and the EMA characteristics of the coating materials are measured in the frequency ranges between 0.2 GHz and 15GHz using the S-parameter method. The results show that the typical coating material has ({{{{ {μ }`_{r } ^{' } }} of about 2 and ({{{{ { ε}`_{r } ^{' } }} of about 4. And the coating materials have a little EMA characteristics in the frequency from 4 to 6 GHz and more improved EMA characteristics around 12 GHz And it is desirable for improvement of the EMA characteristics of the coating materials to properly select electromagnetic properties of constitutional materials inthe interesting frequency ranges.

In this paper, a multilayer radar absorbing structure was designed using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm, and the characteristics of the multilayer radar absorbing structure were analyzed. It was shown that design values can be derived quickly and accurately by applying PSO to the design of a multilayer radar absorbing structure, and it is also shown that the optimal multilayer radar absorbing structure can be designed especially for an oblique incident. In addition, it was shown that the optimal value that meets the performance requirements can be determined even in a combination of various design parameters. It is presented through a comprehensive flowchart including the equations and detailed descriptions of all variables for each step. From the results of this paper, it is possible to omit complex and many calculations for designing a multilayer radar absorbing structure, and it is possible to use various composite materials. It can be utilized in the design and development of multilayer radar absorbing structures.

When it comes to naval surface warfare, the probability of detection is an important factor in survivability and the Radar Cross Section(RCS) is a major parameter. In this paper, the RCS reduction technology of the Radar Absorbing Material(RAM) method is carried out for the general frequency range for naval warfare. We set the analysis model with the simplified ship model and the wide band metamaterial which is high-tech radar absorbing materials is selected for the RAM method. The modeling of the wide band metamaterial composed of an MIK surface which has the wide band resonant properties and flexible substance and the electromagnetic absorptions and reflections of the wide band metamaterial has been simulated to explore the performance. Also, the wide band metamaterial is compared with the paint absorber to analyze RCS reduction in terms of RCS values.

Materials, matrices mixed with various kinds of conductive or magnetic powder, such as ferrite, have been used as the electromagnetic wave absorbing ones, so called RAM(radar absorbing material). The structure that does not only have electromagnetic waves absorbing property like RAM but also supports loads is called RAS(radar absorbing structure). One of the existing manufacturing process of RAS is to compound with conductive powders the glass fiber-reinforced composite with good permeability and the ability to support loads. The process, however, causes a number of problems, such as the degradation in the mechanical properties of the composite, especially, interlamina shear strength. In this study, mechanical properties of glass fabric/epoxy composite containing 7wt% carbon black powders were measured and compared with pure glass fabric/epoxy composites.

In this paper, stealth technology is investigated with RCS(Radar Cross Section) reduction to minimize detection range of retroreflective echoes from enemy. Most RCS reduction comes from shaping. RAM(Radar Absorbing Materials) are applied only in areas where there are special problems. Therefore, we designed and fabricated a RAM that has absorption ability higher than 17 dB at 94 GHz for RF stealth in millimeter wave range. As a result, detection range of enemy can be reduced in the 62 percent range by using a developed RAM.
The avoidance of enemy's radar detection is very important issue in the modem electronic weapon system. Researchers have studied to minimize reflected signals of radar. In this research, two types of radar absorbing structure (RAS), 'C'-type shell and 'U'-type shell, were fabricated using fiber-reinforced composite materials and their radar cross section (RCS) were evaluated. The absorption layer was composed of glass fiber reinforced epoxy and nano size carbon-black, and the reflection layer was fabricated with carbon fiber reinforced epoxy. During their manufacturing process, undesired thermal deformation (so called spring-back) was observed. In order to reduce spring-back, the bending angle of mold was controlled by a series of experiments. The spring-back of parts fabricated by using compensated mold was predicted by finite element analysis (ANSYS). The RCS of RAS shells were measured by compact range and predicted by physical optics method. The measured RCS data was well matched with the predicted data.
