  • To detect targets for autonomous navigation of unmanned ground vehicle, mounted sensors are required to work all-weather condition. In this point of view, the FMCW radar is quietly appropriate. In this paper, we present development results of target signal simulator for multi-beam type FMCW radar. A target signal simulator make pseudo target signals which simulates multiple moving targets. And we describe how to make hit information for each target in multi-beam type radar. The developed methods are utilized for target tracking device. Moreover it can be applied to similar target signal simulator.

  • Defense Systems Test Center in ADD supports increasingly various missile test requirements such as higher altitude event, multi target operation and low-altitude, high velocity target tracking. In this paper, we have proposed the development of instrumentation radar tracking status simulator based on virtual reality. This simulator can predict the tracking status and risk of failure using several modeling algorithms. It consists of target model, radar model, environment model and several algorithms includes the multipath interference effects. Simulation results show that the predict tracking status and signal are similar to the test results of the live flight test. This simulator predicts and analyze all of the status and critical parameters such as the optimal site location, servo response, optimal flight trajectory, LOS(Line of Sight). This simulator provides the mission plan with a powerful M&S tool to rehearse and analyze instrumentation tracking radar measurement plan for live flight test at DSTC(Defense Systems Test Center).

  • This paper presents the realization schemes for a multipurpose coherent mono-pulse radar Simulator with extendable features. We developed and installed the TSG(Timing Signal Generator) board which can simulate a mechanically rotate signal of antenna, an operation timing signal of pulse radar and target signal, to operate the simulator without real target in the indoor environment. Also, with the insertion of the radar signal processor, it came to be easy to achieve the addition of radar function algorithms, to rebuild or extend the multi-DSP Architecture into the simulator. Throughout the simulation results, we verified that the designed coherent mono-pulse radar simulator can exactly display a moving target on the realistic monitor(RD 9800).

  • In this paper we show the hardware testbed and software simulator of multi function array radar (MFAR). The hardware MFAR is simple and flexible hardware to implement various radar beamforming and detecting algorithms. To overcome the limitation of hardware MFAR, the software simulator is proposed. User can simulate radar under the various environment conditions adjusting the parameter of simulator. User can set environment of radar, such as the location and velocity of target, jammer and the terrain clutter. The radar use various probing pulses and supports two operation mode, surveillance and tracking mode.

  • In this paper, an integrated radar resource manager for an airborne multi-function radar and a radar-environment simulator are presented. The radar-environment simulator includes target detection/measurement models, a nonlinear tracking filter for the airborne radar and an effective target generation algorithm. The structures and functions of modules in the radar resource manager are established and validated by the radar-environment simulator.

  • This paper deals with the study of the effective reflecting area of the land targets for the improvement of the map of the Radar Simulator, through the analysis of the pictures on P.P.I Scope. It is very important to anticipate the effective refiecting area of land marks, either forinterpretation of radar scope or for simulating accurately the radar scope, but has seldom been studied theoretically or experimentarily, especially on the stand point of simulating the radar scope. Most of the maps of Radar Simulator in use are made without consideration of the effective reflecting area of land marks, so that the P.P.I. Scope of the Radar Simulator may show much different pictures from the actual shore line and other targets. This paper has derived the following conclusiions by experimental procedures. 1. The effective area of the land target greatly varies according to the gradient of the contours, roughness and material of the land surfaces, so that simulator maps of uniformly coated land taret practically used now many be effectively improved by varying the intensity of the land marks proposed in this paper. 2. The intensity of the land targets on the P.P.I. is also related much to the distance from the radar, so that the precalculation of this effect may results in a much simulated P.P.I. picture improved. 3. If the ambient condition is constant, the intensity of the picture increases as the height of the targets is increased.

  • In case of Radar Simulator ,the target ships should be generated and displayed on the monitor to provide the trainee with the feeling of real situation. The scenario methodology, which has been developed and used in Korea so far, however, has a fixed scenario, in which target ships are generated in the same manner at all time. As a result, the Radar simulator developed in Korea so far was in lack of training efficiency, as the trainee can get earily familiarized with the fixed scenaio. The paper, therefore, suggests the target ship generating methodology using random variables to improve the training efficiency of the existing simulator. In generating the target ships using this methodology, the speed, distance between the ships , and time interval of ships and time of ships were considered as a major factors which dterminie the ship's movements. The new methodology suggested was examined and found to generate target ships successfully giving a trainee the feeling of real situation.

  • In this paper, the contents of the development of RESS(Radar Environmental Signals Simulator) for the test of active phased array multi-function radar are described. The developed RESS can simulate multiple target environments, such as target/jamming/missile response/cluster signals, by using received radar operational information and simulated scenario. It can also modulate frequency, phase, gain, timing on all waveforms operated by multi-function radar and simulated two targets and one jamming in the beam. The RESS can be used to perform functional and performance verification of the active phased array multi-function radar with sub-array receiving structures.

  • This paper presents the design method of an FMCW(frequency-modulated continuous-wave) altitude simulator which generates propagation delay signals according to target distances to test the radar altimeter. To improve the conventional RF method for creating delay signals, the simulator is designed by the RF-optics-RF method using optical delay lines. In addition, it is designed to simulate the Doppler shift and jamming that may occur in actual flight environment. In order to evaluate the performance of the developed simulator, the integration tests have been conducted with the radar altimeter. Through the test, we successfully verified the performance of the simulator.

  • A comprehensive SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) simulation is considered to be a complicated task since a full knowledge of the signal propagation characteristics, antenna pattern, system internal errors and interference noises should be taken into account. In high resolution target application modes, the time varying nature of target RCS(Radar Cross Section) strongly affects the generated SAR images. In this paper, in-depth SAR simulations are performed and analyzed incorporating the STK tools and MATLAB software. STK provides realistic orbit parameters while its radar module helps to extract accurate radiometric parameters of ground targets. SAR raw data corresponding to a given target is generated and processed using MATLAB simulator. The performance is measured by PSLR(Peak Sidelobe Ratio) and ISLR(Integrated Sidelobe Ratio) for a point target, which can be used as reference parameters for accurate radiometric calibration. Finally, high resolution target simulations are performed by adopting time varying target RCS characteristics.
