In this paper, we present a signal processing algorithm for a marine radar system, in which the evaluation of probability of collision as well as target detection and tracking are performed. Moreover, the digital signal processor that implements the algorithm is proposed. As simulation environment, a mechanically scanning antenna utilizing FMCW signal is used, conducting the beamforming operation with 1 degrees intervals. Test board consists of DSP chips and FPGA, which enable the implemented system to operate in real-time.

Instrumentation radar in a test range has an important role to measure target's TSPI(time, space, position, information). It is well known that it tracks a target stably using a beacon mode. But it may fail to track a target in a certain region using a beacon mode. In this paper, we modeled a simple missile shape similar to ATCMS with two beacon antenna and analyzed an antenna radiation pattern using MLFMM(Multi Level Fast Multipole Method) method. Using the analyzed result of the radiation pattern of the antenna and the attitude data of target, we simulated beacon tracking performance of an instrumentation radar. As a result of simulation, we showed that an instrumentation radar may lose the target because it tracks a area of the beacon antenna pattern.
A radar scattering model is developed based on an empirical rough surface scattering model, the radiative transfer model (RTM), a numerical simulation algorithm of radar scattering from particles, and experimental data obtained by ground-based scatterometers and SAR systems. At first, the scattering matrices of scattering particles such as a leaf, a branch, and a trunk, have been modeled using the physical optics (PO) model and the numerical full-wave analysis. Then, radar scattering from a group of mixed particles has been modeled using the RTM, which leads to a general scattering model for earth surfaces. Finally, the scattering model has been verified with the experimental data obtained by scatterometers and SAR systems.
As current algorithms unable to perform effective fusion processing of unknown complex radar signals lacking database, and the result is unstable, this paper presents a multi-level fusion processing algorithm for complex radar signals based on evidence theory as a solution to this problem. Specifically, the real-time database is initially established, accompanied by similarity model based on parameter type, and then similarity matrix is calculated. D-S evidence theory is subsequently applied to exercise fusion processing on the similarity of parameters concerning each signal and the trust value concerning target framework of each signal in order. The signals are ultimately combined and perfected. The results of simulation experiment reveal that the proposed algorithm can exert favorable effect on the fusion of unknown complex radar signals, with higher efficiency and less time, maintaining stable processing even of considerable samples.

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate how the rainfall field effect on a runoff simulation using grid radar rainfall data and ground gauge rainfall. The Gwangdeoksan radar and ground-gauge rainfall data were used to estimate a spatial rainfall field, and a hydrologic model was used to evaluate whether the rainfall fields created by each method reproduced a realistically valid spatial and temporal distribution. Pilot basin in this paper was the Naerin stream located in Inje-gun, Gangwondo, 250m grid scale digital elevation data, land cover maps, and soil maps were used to estimate geological parameters for the hydrologic model. For the rainfall input data, quantitative precipitation estimation(QPE), adjusted radar rainfall, and gauge rainfall was used, and then compared with the observed runoff by inputting it into a $Vflo^{TM}$ model. As a result of the simulation, the quantitative precipitation estimation and the ground rainfall were underestimated when compared to the observed runoff, while the adjusted radar rainfall showed a similar runoff simulation with the actual observed runoff. From these results, we suggested that when weather radars and ground rainfall data are combined, they have a greater hydrological usability as input data for a hydrological model than when just radar rainfall or ground rainfall is used separately.
This paper deals with ground clutter model for FOD (foreign object debris) surveillance FMCW (frequency modulated continuous waveform) radar. In the FOD surveillance radar, it has received not only the signals reflected by FOD, but also the clutters of the surface of the runway and the grassland simultaneously. However, to detect the FOD, the clutter rejection algorithm is necessary because the RCS (radar cross section) of FOD is nearly same to RCS of the grassland. In addition, it is difficult to apply the MTI (moving target indicator) algorithm as the clutter rejection algorithm because both the FOD and the clutter coexist stationarily. Hence, to remove the stationary clutter, it is crucial to accurately generate clutter map considering the surface of road. In this paper, in order to generate the clutter map, the respective beat signal at every range bin is generated in the case of only the surface without FOD, and then the beat signal accumulated 100 times. And also, Weibull distribution is applied to the RCS value to take the scattering distribution of clutter into consideration. The simulation results show that FOD can be well detected by applying the generated clutter map to the FOD FMCW radar.

Recently, World Radio Conference(WRC)-2007 approved the ultrawide bandwidth of 500 MHz for the use of spaceborne synthetic aperture radar in X-band for the EESS(Earth Exploration Satellite Service) in order to improve the SAR imaging resolution. It is concerned about the interference impact from the spaceborne SAR that may cause to most of ground radars due to the extended ultra wideband. In this paper, in order to predict the interference impact of the ground-based radar from the spaceborne radar, radar interference model is presented using radar characteristic parameters by taking into account the operating environments of the spaceborne and ground based radar in the time, space, and spectrum domains. Using the spaceborne SAR model of TerraSAR-X and ground radar model of meteorological radar recommended by ITU-R, the interference impact was assessed through the computer simulation to see the possible interference impact of the ground based radar operating in the Korean peninsula.

Recently, the use of radar rainfall data that can help tracking of the development and movement of rainfall's spatial distribution is drawing much attention in hydrology. The reliability of existing radar rainfall compared to gauge rainfall data on the ground has not yet been confirmed and so we have difficulties to apply the radar rainfall in hydrology. The radar rainfall for the applications in hydrology are adjusted merging method derived from gage. This study uses the Mean-Field Bias (MFB) and Statistical Objective Analysis (SOA) as correction methods to create adjusted grid-based radar rainfall data which can represent the temporal and spatial distribution of rainfall. This study used a storm event occurred in August 2010 for the adjustment of radar rainfall. In addition, the grid-based distributed rainfall-runoff model (Vflo), which enables more detailed examinations of spatial flux changes in the basin rather than the lumped hydrological models, has been applied to Gamcheon river basin which is a tributary of Nakdong River located in south-eastern part of the Korean peninsular and the basin area is $1005km^2$. The simulated runoff was compared with the observed runoff in an attempt to evaluate the usability of radar rainfall data and the reliability of the correction methods. The error range of peak discharge using each correction method was within 20 percent and the efficiency of the model was between 60 and 80 percent. In particular, the SOA method showed better results than MFB method. Therefore, the SOA method could be used for the adjustment of grid-based radar rainfall and the adjusted radar rainfall can be used as an input data of rainfall-runoff models.

Recently, many studies have been conducted to use the radar rainfall in hydrology. However, in the case of weather radar, the beam is blocked due to the limitation of the observation such as mountain effect, which causes underestimation of the radar rainfall. In this study, the radar rainfall was estimated using the Hybrid Sacn Reflectivity (HSR) technique for hydrological use of weather radar and the runoff analysis was performed using the GRM model which is a distributed rainfall-runoff model. As a result of performing the radar rainfall correction and runoff simulation for 5 rainfall events, the accuracy of the dual-polarization radar rainfall using the HSR technique (Q_H_KDP) was the highest with an error within 15% of the ground rainfall. In addition, the result of runoff simulation using Q_H_KDP also showed an accuracy of R2 of 0.9 or more, NRMSE of 1.5 or less and NSE of 0.5 or more. From this study, we examined the application of the dual-polarization radar and this results can be useful for studies related to the hydrological application of dual-polarization radar rainfall in the future.
A recent technology trends in synthetic aperture radar(SAR) requires the ultra high resolution performance in detecting and precisely identifying the targets. In this paper, as a technique for enhancing the radar range resolution, the wide band chirp connection algorithm is presented by stitching the several chirp modules with unit bandwidth based on the linear frequency modulated chirp signal waveform. The principles of the digital chirp signal generation and its architecture for implementation is described with the wide band chirp signal generator, modulator, and demodulator. The performance analysis for the presented algorithm is given with the simulation results.
