  • Recently, small radar require the development of small millimeter wave radar with high distance resolution to disable the target's system with a single strike. Small millimeter wave radar with high distance resolution need to process large amounts of data in real time to acquire and track target. In this paper, we summarized the real-time data preprocessing method to process the large amount of data required for small millimeter wave radar. In addition, the digital IF(Intermediate Frequency) receiver, Window processing, and, DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) functions presented by real-time data preprocessing are implemented using FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array). Finally the implemented real-time data preprocessing module was applied to the signal processor for small millimeter wave radar and verified by performance test related to the real-time preprocessing function.

  • In this paper, we improved the clarity and quality of the radar imaging by applying motion compensation for time-frequency transform in B-ISAR imaging. The proposed motion compensation algorithm using UWB radar is verified. B-ISAR algorithm procedure and time-frequency transform for improved motion compensation are provided for theoretical ground. The image was created by a UWB Radar B-ISAR imaging algorithm method. Also, creating a B-ISAR imaging algorithm for motion compensation of time-frequency transformation method was used. The B-ISAR Imaging algorithm is implemented using STFT(Short-Time Fourier Transform), GWT(Gabor Wavelet Transform), and WVD(Wigner-Ville Distribution) approaches. The performance of STFT is compared with the GWT and WVD algorithms. It is found that the WVD image shows more clarity and decreased spread phenomenon than other methods.

  • To improve the survivability of a missile, it needs to be lowered that the detection possibility by radars on the ground. The radar exposure of the target is given as a function of relative distance from the radar to the target and RCS (Radar Cross Section). The RCS of the missile is determined by the incidence angle of the target to electromagnetic radiation emitted from the radar. Under the assumption that the missile equips appropriate attitude control system, the attitude of the missile to minimize radar exposure at a high altitude is investigated in this paper. Two different types of performance cost are considered: the total sum of RCS and the total sum of SNR during the flight. Optimal solutions against multiple ground radars are found by using a SQP (Sequential Quadratic Programming)-based optimization technique.

  • We present an implementation result of a computer GUI-based simulator using MATLAB to verify the performance of interferometric radar altimeter(IRA) which is possible to measure the slant range altitude and the cross-track angle to the nearest point for terrain aided navigation(TAN). After a brief description of the principle of TAN and IRA, we present that the grids are divided for the modeling of the reflected signal in digital elevation map(DEM) and so the radar cross section(RCS) of each grid is calculated and the signal-noise ratio(SNR) of the reflected signal in the radar beam width. And the signal processing procedures of the IRA and the structure of the IRA simulator are shown.

  • In this paper, precipitation echo(PRE) and non-precipitaion echo(N-PRE)(including ground echo and clear echo) through weather radar data are identified with the aid of neuro-fuzzy algorithm. The accuracy of the radar information is lowered because meteorological radar data is mixed with the PRE and N-PRE. So this problem is resolved by using RBFNN and judgement module. Structure expression of weather radar data are analyzed in order to classify PRE and N-PRE. Input variables such as Standard deviation of reflectivity(SDZ), Vertical gradient of reflectivity(VGZ), Spin change(SPN), Frequency(FR), cumulation reflectivity during 1 hour(1hDZ), and cumulation reflectivity during 2 hour(2hDZ) are made by using weather radar data and then each characteristic of input variable is analyzed. Input data is built up from the selected input variables among these input variables, which have a critical effect on the classification between PRE and N-PRE. Echo judgment module is developed to do echo classification between PRE and N-PRE by using testing dataset. Polynomial-based radial basis function neural networks(RBFNNs) are used as neuro-fuzzy algorithm, and the proposed neuro-fuzzy echo pattern classifier is designed by combining RBFNN with echo judgement module. Finally, the results of the proposed classifier are compared with both CZ and DZ, as well as QC data, and analyzed from the view point of output performance.

  • Active radar reflector may be less familiar, since their uses have been limited to military applications, especially the enhancement of the effective radar cross-sections of missile test range in the drone aircraft and missiles. Perhaps the most widely-Down applications of radar transponders are Identification Friend or Foe(IFF) and its civilian counterpart secondary surveilliance radar for Air Traffic Control(ATC), and most recently, as Search And Rescue Transponder(SART) in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System(GMDSS). Since it happens frequently accidents on the sea, the problems of the contamination more seriously considered. The conventional navigation buoy and utilities are not sufficient to maintain the safety of the sea and thus new structured concept must be considered. Therefore, this paper propose and implement the active radar reflector with a enhanced function. The results are shown that the performance of the system is significantly improved comparing with the conventional utilities.

  • Muzzle Velocity is one of the most important measurement items for evaluation of ammunition. The muzzle velocity is defined as the velocity when the projectile leaves the muzzle. Particularly, since the muzzle velocity is closely related to the performance of the propellant, precise measurement of muzzle velocity is required. Doppler radar is used to measure the muzzle velocity, but the quality of Doppler radar signal depends on the test site environment. In this paper, a method to remove the clutter that degrades the signal quality of Doppler radar by improving the structure of the test site and the signal processing method is suggested. For the application of the improved signal processing method, a program for acquiring Doppler radar's raw Doppler data was created. Statistical verification of the velocity data obtained through the improvement of the test site structure and signal processing method proved that the proposed method is effective for the removal of clutter as compared with the existing method.

  • Existing radars have been developed by applying RF sub-array algorithms, and recently, fully digital Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) radar algorithms have been implemented for vehicle radars. In this paper, the radar algorithm applying the Phased MIMO method to the hardware of the RF sub-array method, which is an unsecured technology, was implemented and verified in real time. In order to secure RF sub-array Phased MIMO algorithm technology, a hardware structure for FPGA-based real-time signal processing was presented, and performance was first predicted through design and simulation. Through this, the digital signal of FPGA-based broadband MIMO FMCW radar The processing hardware was developed, and the Phased MIMO radar algorithm of the RF sub-Array method was finally implemented and verified in real time. Based on this, it is judged that it will be possible to secure and apply core technologies necessary for terahertz band radar in the future.

  • This paper describes constant alarm rates process of millimeter wave radar that exits on non-stationary target detection schemes in the ground clutter conditions. The comparison of various CFAR processes such as CA(Cell-Average)-CFAR, GO(Greatest Of)/SO(Smallest Of)-CFAR and OS(Order Statistics)-CFAR performance are applied. Using matlab software, we show the performance and loss between detection probability and signal to noise ratio. When rang bins increase, this results show the OS-CFAR process performance is better than any others and satisfies the optimal detection probability without loss of detection in the homogeneous clutter.

  • Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) can provide radar imagery in all weather, day and night situations. Recently SAR system consisted of several imaging modes, has been used for not only military purpose, but also commercial and scientific applications. This paper firstly reviews spaceborne SAR theory, specially scansar principle, and secondly the theories and the design procedures of system performance analysis in the scansar mode, which are different from the ones in the conventional stripmap mode. Based on the SAR-related knowledge, it lastly derives the results of performance analysis in wide swath mode using the scansar technique at the design phase. It shows that these results can meet the system requirements as given the customer. In future, they will continuously be updated using the real measurement data, in connection with the development of a spaceborne SAR system.
