Development of Devices of the Diversion Gate in Irrigation Canal (용수로 분수문 개폐장치 개발)

  • Devices of diversion gate used at irrigation canal, as a irrigation structures of agriculture, have shown serious problems such as corrosion, defect, inconvenience of operation, etc. Accordingly, handy devices of diversion gate have been developed and then tested in the laboratory. The operating types of the prototype were a rack-and-pinion type, an improved screw type that only gate plate was moved up and down while the screw axis was unmoved, and a remote control type which can be controlled from 50m away using a remote control system. Those 3 types were developed, and the improved screw type was shown the best operation through the laboratory tests.

  • A high speed automated pitch variation unit (HAPU) related to semiconductor category sorting movement of the test handler system was developed. In the design process, 'DMADOV' step of 6-Sigma method has been applied. The design result for the desirable pitch variation was a 3:1 reduction rack-pinion and a linkage which are operated by servomotors. The realization and reliability of the mechanism was obtained at the design stage by FEM analysis, and by robust design using Taguchi orthogonal array against weight and deformation. Finally, the validity of the high speed variation mechanism was confirmed via inspection using a high speed camera while performing pitch variation.

  • Self-closing drawers are used in high-end products, such as furniture, home appliances, and a range of other storage devices. In this study, a self-closing mechanism is proposed. A system consisting of a friction latch, constant force spring, rotary damper with rack, and pinion is developed. The retracting drawer can be latched at any position and can be reactivated by simple touch. The constant force spring and rotary damper offer smooth closing action. The ergonomic quality of the closing action is quantified by an index based on velocity-time behavior. The effects of various design parameters are analyzed with a dynamics model and experimentally validated by prototype testing.

  • In this paper, the design result of robotic tools and the development of robot control system for chemical coupler assembly are presented. This research aims to eliminate the risk of chemicals exposed to human operators by developing the robotic tools and robot automation system for chemical tank lorry unloading that were done manually. Due to tight tolerance between couplers, even small pose error may result in very large internal force. In order to resolve the problem, the 6-axis compliance device is employed, which can provide not only enough compliance between couplers but also F/T sensing. The 6-axis compliance device having large force and moment capacity is designed. A simple linear gripper with rack-and-pinion is designed to grasp two sizes of couplers. The proposed robot automation system consists of 6-DOF collaborative robot with offset wrist, 6-axis compliance device with F/T sensing, linear gripper, and two robot visions.

  • In the case of need for reciprocating motion, the study for application of Linear Oscillating Actuator(LOA) is being accomplished. LOA is the simpler and more efficient than other linear apparatus using the rotary motor because LOA produce the thrust force without any converter such as cam, clutch, rack, pinion and belt, etc. We designed the flat moving core type LOA and manufactured for trial. This paper shows the structure and dynamic characteristics of LOA.

  • LOA is the linear electromechanical device that mover is similar to secondary conductor of LIM. The mover reciprocates along stroke by supplying the alternating current to primary coil. LOA is the simpler and more efficient than other linear apparatus using the rotary motor because LOA produce the thrust force without any mechanical converter such as cam, clutch, belt, rack and pinion, etc. This paper deals with the static characteristics of moving coil type LOA by virtual work method, FEM analysis and experiment Results show that thrust force increases when mover travels form center to both ends.

  • Precision motor dynamometer is requiring for nano positioning control performance recently. Particularly, linear motor is using rapidly and the dynamometer needs is increasing. In this study, a precision control dynamometer is designed using MR (Magnetic Rheological) damper. The ultra precision motor system including the driver and controller is tested using the MR damper dynamometer. This dynamometer is able to measure torque for rotary motor or traction force with linear positioning accuracy for linear motor system.

  • Servomotors, especially linear brushless servomotors have numerous advantages over ball screws, timing belts, rack/pinion drives and friction drives compared wi th rotary servomotors This paper proposes an linear regression method as the estimated ion of unknown parameters from the linear brushless DC motor The estimated parameters are used to tune the gain of controller. In order to agree with this purpose, Digital Signal Processor (TMS320F240), developed for implementation of the motor control, is adopted in this study. The processor playing an important role in controller has A/D converters, PWM generators, riched I/O ports internally.

  • This study presents a so-called regenerative ER damper which does not require external power sources with aid of energy conversion from kinetic energy into electrical energy. The ER damper is manufactured by employing a rack and pinion mechanism which converts a linear piston motion to a rotary motion. This rotary motion is amplified by gears and subsequently activates a generator to produce an electrical energy. In order to demonstrate the efficiency of the mechanism, with respect to the frequency of the ER damper is investigated a generated electric voltage, which is amplified via a transformer prior to being applied to the ER damper. In addition, the damping force of the ER damper obtained by the regenerated voltage is evaluated.

  • Ball k nut type steering gear box has disadvantages on on-center range as compared with rack & pinion type because of many linkages. In this study, a technique which can improve the on-center loose feel is introduced. The improvement can be obtained by putting simple devices on steering gear box valve body which can change the stiffness of steering gear on on-center handling range. Analysis and test of the vehicle with improved steering system are performed.
