  • For providing high quality-guaranteed service over Internet, traffic engineering based on an MPLS technology is being introduced. MPLS traffic engineering performs the computation on the path guaranteeing service`s quality and the reservation on network resources by an MPLS signaling protocol. As one of MPLS signaling protocol, RSVP-TE protocol transmits and receives periodic refresh messages for maintaining the path of a traffic flow. Such characteristic gives a heavy processing overhead to routers for maintaining states of large number of paths. In this paper, we propose a scalable implementation approach for RSVP-TE without dramatically increasing processing overhead. And we eval-uate the processing overhead on periodic messages by implementing the RSVP-TE protocol and the reduction mechanism of periodic messages.

  • In this paper, we define a Hose-NSIS-QoSM, which reserves and manages resources according to the hose based resource provisioning mechanisms for supporting the VPN QoS(Quality of Service) using the NSIS(Next Step in Signaling) signaling protocol. Specifically, we specify the NSIS message objects, the structures of QoS NSLP(NSIS Signaling Layer Protocol)/NTLP(NSIS Transport Layer Protocol)/RMF(Resource Management Function) state tables and the processing of the signaling messages in NSIS nodes. Also, we compare the Hose-NSIS-QoSM with the Hose-RSVP-TE-QoSM that supports the hose based VPN QoS in the MPLS networks using the extended RSVP-TE mechanism.

  • Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) has been developed as a key technology to enhance the reliability, manageability and overall quality of service of core If networks with connection-oriented tunnel LSP and traffic engineering such as constraint-based routing, explicit routing, and restoration. In this paper, we propose a control bandwidth borrowing scheme that maximizes the utilization of tunnel LSPs or physical links by an extension to the RSVP-TE label distribution protocol. MPLS-based core switching network and VPN services rely on the establishment of connection-oriented tunneled LSPs that are configured or predefined by network management systems. The mechanism of network management system varies from (i) a relatively static LSP establishment accounting, to (ii) a dynamic QoS routing mechanisms. With the use of hierarchical LSPs, the extra bandwidth that is unused by the trunk (outer) LSPs should be fully allocated to their constituent end-to-end user traffic (inner) LSPs in order to maximize their utilization. In order to find out the unused extra bandwidth in tunnel LSP or physical link and redistribute these resources to constituent LSPs, we expend the functionality of RSVP-TE and the found unused extra bandwidth is redistributed with a weight-based recursive redistribution scheme. By the extended RSVP-TE and proposed recursive redistributed scheme, we could achieve the instantaneous maximized utilization of tunnel LSP or physical link suffering from the potential under-utilization problem and guarantee the end-to-end QoS requirements. With the proposed scheme, network manager can manage more effectively the extra available bandwidth of hierarchical LSPs and maximize the instantaneous utilization of the tunneled LSP resources.

즉, GMPLS 망에서 망에 장애가 발생했을 때 효율적으로 복구하기 위해서, RSVF-TE(resource Reservation Protocol with Traffic Engineering)를 이용해서 백업 패스를 잡는다.

  • Network is expected to be developed into optical Internet network collected IP layer and optical layer, but GMPLS is risen at the transitional evolution stage because of the present technology level. GMPLS that MPLS is extended and generalized is able to support not only the packet switching device but also the devices which perform switching in time, wavelength, and space domain. To implement the common control plane to these various switching types, GMPLS extends the existing MPLS signaling and routing protocol. In this paper, we describe the overview of GMPLS technology, and then we will refer to the OSPF(Open Shortest Path First), which was used to exchange the status information of link, as the plan of routing extension to exchange the information of various link type, bandwidth, link protection type etc. And also, we describe the definition of new protocol, so called, LMP that is a signaling protocol for solving complex problem which manages hundreds and thousands of links between two nodes. And we will examine and analyze the plan of signaling protocol extension to apply signaling protocol RSVP-TE(Resource Reservation Protocol) for traffic engineering in MPLS to network, and the message objects and formats associated with modified RSVP.

  • ETF made the RFCs of MPLS technologies for providing the QoS of ATM or Frame Relay and the flexibility&scalability of IP on the Internet services. IETF has been expanding MPLS technologies as a common control component for supporting the various switching technologies called GMPLS. Also, IETF has standardized the signaling protocols based on such technologies, such as LDP, CR-LDP and RSVP-TE. ETRI developed the MPLS system based on ATM switch in order to provide more reliable services, differentiated services and value-added services like the VPN and traffic engineering service on the Korea Public Sector network. We are planning on deploying model services and commercial services on that network. This paper explains the basic functions of LDP, design and development of LDP on our system, and compares with LDP development and operation on other MPLS systems made by Cisco, Juniper, Nortel and Riverstone. In conclusion, this paper deduces the future services and applications by LDP through these explanation and comparison.

  • Increase of internet users and new types of applied traffics, have led to demand for more bandwidth for each application. Hence, the amount of internet traffic has risen sharply and it has demanded to use limited resources, such as wavelength and bandwidth, more effectively. These kind of needs can be satisfied with OXC(Optical cross-connects) based on GMPLS that carry out IP packet switching and wavelength switching at the same time and Provide very wide bandwidth. In RSVP-TE signaling of GMPLS studied by IETF. every lambda router in core network should be able to convert wavelength. So, lots of wavelength converters and needed and building and managing cost is high. Another problem is that optimized traffic is limited. In this paper We suggest strengthened GMPLS RSVP-TE signaling algorithm for a better lightpath setup. When setup signaling is blocked suggested algorithm does not send PathErr message to Edge Router, but looks for nearest lambda router which can convert wavelength and carry out setup signaling from that node. Such algorithm can reduce the chance of blocked lightpath setup signaling and provide effective arrangement of lambda router in core network by calculating proper number of wavelength converter.

  • As optical network technology advances and high bandwidth Internet is demanded for the exponential growth of internet traffic volumes, the Dense-Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) networks have been widely accepted as a promising approach to the Next Generation Optical Internet (NGOI) backbone networks for nation wide or global coverage. Important issues in the NGOI based on DWDM networks are the Routing and Wavelength Assignment(RWA) problem and survivability. Especially, fault/attack detection, localization and recovery schemes in All Optical Transport Network(AOTN) is one of the most important issues because a short service disruption in DWDM networks carrying extremely high data rates causes loss of vast traffic volumes. In this paper, we suggest a fault/attack management model for NGOI through analyzing fault/attack vulnerability of various optical backbone network devices and propose fault/attack recovery procedure considering Extended-LMP(Link Management Protocol) and RSVP-TE+(Resource Reservation Protocol-Traffic Engineering) as control protocols in IP/GMPLS over DWDM.
