  • The acrylic resin was first introduced as denture base materials in 1937 and it is commonly used for denture base fabrication nowadays. Three different curing cycles (Conventional curing cycle, short curing cycle and long curing cycle) and three commercially available heat-activated acrylic resins (Vertex RS, Lucitone 199 and ProBase Hot) were investigated to find the curing cycle and material that showed the minimum shrinkage of the resin during polymerization process. A brass master mold was fabricated and duplicated by additional silicone impression material. Stone molds were made by pouring of type III dental stone (SILKY-ROCK YELLOW, Whip-Mix, Louisville, Kentucky). It was embedded in the flask. Strain gauge and thermocouple were embedded in the specimen. Strain gauge and thermocouple were connected to signal conditioning amplifier and data was recorded by pre-programmed software. The parameters ESmax (Maximum expansion strain), Sb (Strain measured just before deflasking procedure), Sa (Strain measured just after deflasking procedure) and Sf (Strain measured at the end of the experiment) were measured. ${\Delta}$S was calculated from Sb and Sa (${\Delta}$S=Sb-Sa). In the experiment concerned about materials, the parameters 90-ESmax (Maximum expansion strain measured during early 90 minutes of curing procedure), 180-ESmax (Maximum expansion strain measured from 90 minutes to 180 minutes), Sb, Sa, ${\Delta}$S and Sf were measured and the following conclusions were made. 1. The ESmax value of conventional curing cycle showed the largest value and the 180-ESmax value of Lucitone 199 showed the smallest value. 90-ESmax values showed no significant difference (p<0.05). 2. ${\Delta}$S values of conventional curing cycle showed the positive values. ${\Delta}$S values of short curing cycle and long curing cycle showed the negative values. All three materials cured by conventional curing cycle showed the positive values. 3. The Sf values of long curing cycle and ProBase Hot (cured by conventional curing cycle) showed the smallest values.

  • Koh Chang Island is located near the east border of Thailand. The government of Thailand promotes the island as a model of eco-tourism spots. The Island undeveloped until recent years, is expected to change to major tourist attraction. 'Digital Koh Chang project' has thus. The main objective of this project is to monitor the environment and land use status of the island and to support its sound development. In March 2003, a field survey of this project was planned and field data were collected using both airborne and ground platforms and an ocean vessel. These data were combined with satellite data in the laboratory. This presentation is all balloon-born system field operation. A 5-meter length balloon filled with Helium gas was used, whose payload consisted of two RGB standard color digital still cameras, two directional rotating servo motors, a camera mount cradle as well as signal transmitting and receiving components. A series of aerial high-resolution digital images were rather easily obtained using this inexpensive system, making it possible to monitor intended landscape features in a specific field. Design of simple, low-cost and easily transportable flying platforms and local field surveys using them are useful for getting local ground truth data to calibrate satellite or airborne-based RS data. The design analysis to upgrade the system is further investigated.

  • The mulberry silkworm, Bombyx mori has been one of the most important domestic animals which have provided with silk fibers for weaving fabrics and a food for a protein and lipid source. In addition, various health improvement effects of diverse silkworm larval powders were reported. Recently we found that steamed and freeze-dried mature silkworm larval powder (SMSP) generated using white-jade (also known as Backokjam) silkworm variety extended healthspan and increased resistance to Parkinson's disease in animal models. Because the colors of cocoons in silkworm varieties were caused by altered signal transduction pathways transporting phytochemicals from intestinal lumens to silk glands, we performed the proximate, amino acid, mineral, carbohydrates, fatty acid, and cholesterol composition analyses of SMSPs of 3 silkworm varieties which were weaving light yellow, golden, and red cocoons. Although most of nutrient compositions among 3 SMSPs were similar, there were significant differences in certain amino acids, minerals, and fatty acid compositions. Red silk silkworm (RS)-SMSP had higher contents of crude proteins and total amino acids than other SMSPs. In addition, the ratio of n-3/n-6 unsaturated fatty acids were higher than the other SMSPs. In contrast Golden silk silkworm (GS)-SMSP had higher ratio of potassium/sodium than the other SMSPs. These nutrient analysis results suggested that 3 SMSPs might have common and unique health improvement effects. Thus, further studies in the functionalities of the 3 SMSPs will reveal unknown their health improvements effects.

  • Recently we all agree with the fact that conference is the most important communication method in industrial fields. With improvement of information technology, the conference using computer-aided system has been increased. Therefore, software, which can support the conference, is highly needed. In our work, we implemented the display sharing system in WLANs that sends the presenter's display to all audience in real-time manner. In order to share the display, we used multicast transmission which shows good performance in one to many communications. And also, to solve the data error and loss problem, which are weak points of multicast transmission, we used Reed-Solomon coding scheme.

  • Recent evidence has strongly suggested that the CAP/TC10 pathway is involved in the trafficking, docking, and fusion of vesicles containing the insulin-responsive glucose transporter Glut4 to the plasma membrane. However, little is known about how the genes employed in the CAP/TC10 pathway are associated with the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In this study, we sequenced 4 genes of the CAP/TC10 pathway [SORBS1, CBL, CRK, and RHOQ] in 24 individuals to identify genetic variations in these loci. A total of 48 sequence variants were identified, including 23 novel variations. To investigate the possible association with type 2 diabetes mellitus, 3 single nucleotide polymorphisms from SORBS1, 3 from CBL, and 4 from RHOQ were genotyped in 1122 Korean type 2 diabetic patients and 1138 nondiabetic controls. Using logistic regression analysis, 1 significant association between SNP rs1376405 in RHOQ and type 2 diabetes mellitus [OR = 8.714 (C.I. 1.714-44.29), p = 0.009] was found in the recessive model. Our data demonstrate a positive association of the RHOQ gene in the CAP/TC10 pathway with T2DM in the Korean population.

  • In this study, the bit error rate(BER) performance for the speech and data traffic is evaluated by results of the reverse link simulation of CDMA-based IMT-2000. Simulations in the reverse link are achieved for indoor, pedestrian, and vehicular environments, which are provided by ITU-R . Also, in the these simulations, the fast power control of 1.6kHz rate is applied. The amplitude and phase of the fading signal are estimated by using the 5-tap FIR filter, and the soft-decision Viterbi and Reed-Solomon (RS) decoding are applied. Simulation results provide the optimum ratio of pilot power to traffic power, the BER performance according to the number of fingers, and performance comparison between convolutional code and concatenated code at $10^-6$ BER in 5 MHz system.

  • The feasibility study must be conducted for construction of complex for generation of electric power such as items to get permission and grid connection etc. including wind resource to construct a complex for wind power generation. Since wind power can be used by converting only around 20~40% of energy coming in that kinetic energy of wind passes through blades and driving device into electric energy, when constructing a complex, the survey of wind resource takes up the most important part. Data logger used to measure this wind energy are expressed by calculating generally electromotive that is created from a sensor, variable-type, pulse-type signal to be proper for the actual value, and most data loggers have a type without considering geographical features. Besides, in the case of Met mast that is installed to survey the wind resource, since it is installed lower than the hub height of a wind power generator due to permission matters and the economic factors, the height of wind speed by utilizing Deacon equation is compensated to revise this. In this study, a device measuring wind speed was made by using algorithm that is possible to compensate the height of wind speed according to regional features and by applying Deacon equation, and the function of data storage through SD card or RS232 communication was added as well. Besides it's possible to check data more easily with a type of graph by using LCD touch screen for the convenience of users.

  • Copper-containing compounds are introduced into the environment through agricultural chemicals, mining, and metal industries and cause severe detrimental effects on ecosystems. Certain microorganisms exposed to these stressors exhibit molecular mechanisms to maintain intracellular copper homeostasis and avoid toxicity. We have previously reported that the soil bacterial isolate Achromobacter sp. AO22 is multi-heavy metal tolerant and exhibits a mer operon associated with a Tn21 type transposon. The present study reports that AO22 also hosts a unique cop locus encoding copper homeostasis determinants. The putative cop genes were amplified from the strain AO22 using degenerate primers based on reported cop and pco sequences, and a constructed 10,552 base pair contig (GenBank Accession No. GU929214). BLAST analyses of the sequence revealed a unique cop locus of 10 complete open reading frames, designated copSRABGOFCDK, with unusual separation of copCD from copAB. The promoter areas exhibit two putative cop boxes, and copRS appear to be transcribed divergently from other genes. The putative protein CopA may be a copper oxidase involved in export to the periplasm, CopB is likely extracytoplasmic, CopC may be periplasmic, CopD is cytoplasmic/inner membrane, CopF is a P-type ATPase, and CopG, CopO, and CopK are likely copper chaperones. CopA, B, C, and D exhibit several potential copper ligands and CopS and CopR exhibit features of two-component regulatory systems. Sequences flanking indicate the AO22 cop locus may be present within a genomic island. Achromobacter sp. strain AO22 is thus an ideal candidate for understanding copper homeostasis mechanisms and exploiting them for copper biosensor or biosorption systems.

  • In this paper, we propose and analyze a concatenated coding scheme for DS/CDMA systems in asynchronous channels. In the concatenated coding, bandwidth efficient $2^{2L-2}$-state ${\frac{L}{L+1}}$-rate 2-MTCM with biorthogonal signal constellation is used for the inner code, and $(2^{L-1},\;{\lceil}\frac{2^{L-1}}{L/2}{\rceil})$ RS code is use for the outer code. It is shown that we can get considerable performance gain over the uncoded system without sacrificing the data transmission rate. The proposed system can be used as a coding scheme for reliable and high speed integrated information services of mobile communication systems.
