  • We developed a digital 3-axis flux-gate magnetometer for magnetic field signal measurement from warship during demagnetizing and degaussing processes. For the magnetometer design, we considered following points; the distance between magnetic field measurement station and magnetometer located under sea is about several 100 m, the magnetometer is exposed to magnetic field of ${\pm}1mT$ during demagnetizing process, and magnetometer is located under the sea about 30 m depth. To overcome long distance problem, magnetometer could be operated on wide input supply voltage range of 16~36 V using DC/DC converter, and for the data communication between the magnetometer and measurement station a RS422 serial interface was employed. To improve perming effect due to the ${\pm}1mT$ during demagnetizing process, magnetometer could be compensated external magnetic field up to ${\pm}1mT$ but magnetic field measuring rang is only ${\pm}100{\mu}T$. The perming effect was about ${\pm}2nT$ under ${\pm}1mT$ external magnetic field. The magnetometer was tested water vessel with air pressure up to 6 bar for the sea water pressure problems. Linearity of the magnetometer was better than 0.01 % in the measuring range of ${\pm}0.1mT$ and noise level was $30pT/\sqrt{Hz}$ at 1 Hz.

  • In this paper, satellite data link waveform is proposed which is based on the waveform of Link-16 but LDPC code is studied instead of CCSK code in order to be optimized to satellite nonlinear channel environment and transmission characteristics. And the DSM (Demux, Selective CH switch, and Mux) transponder structure is suggested which can remove all of the jamming signal out of the transmission signal band and convert uplink hopping frequency to desired ones of downlink. The results of BER and anti-jamming performance analysis shows that the required Eb/No and processing gain in the worst case partial band jammer of the proposed waveform are 2.5dB and 52dB respectively and the anti-jamming capacity improvement of DSM transponder is maximum 2dB.

  • This paper proposes a pseudo-random beamforming technique for time-synchronized mobile base stations (BSs) for multi-cell downlink networks which have mobility. The base stations equipped with multi-antennas and mobile stations (MSs) are time-synchronized based on global positioning system (GPS) signals and generate a number of transmit beamforming matrix candidates according to the predetermined pseudo-random pattern. In addition, MSs generate receive beamforming vectors that correspond to the beam index number based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) using transmit beamforming vectors that make up a number of transmit beamforming matrices and wireless channel matrices from BSs estimated via the reference signals (RS). Afterward, values of received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) with regard to all transmit beamforming vectors are calculated, and the resulting values are then feedbacked to the BS of the same cells along with the beam index number. Each of the BSs calculates each of the sum-rates of the transmit beamforming matrix candidates based on the feedback information and then transmits the calculated results to the BS coordinator. After this, optimum transmit beamforming matrices, which can maximize a sum-rate of the entire cells, are selected at the BS coordinator and informed to the BSs. Finally, data signals are transmitted using them. The simulation results verified that a sum-rate of the entire cells was improved as the number of transmit beamforming matrix candidates increased. It was also found that if the received SINR values and beam index numbers are feedbacked opportunistically from each of the MSs to the BSs, not only nearly the same performance in sum-rate with that of applying existing feedback techniques could be achieved but also an amount of feedback was significantly reduced.

  • Wi-Fi fingerprinting system is a very popular positioning method used in indoor spaces. The system depends on Wi-Fi Received Signal Strength (RSS) from Access Points (APs). However, the Wi-Fi RSS is changeable by multipath fading effect and interference due to walls, obstacles and people. Therefore, the Wi-Fi fingerprinting system produces low position accuracy. Also, Wi-Fi signals pass through walls. For this reason, the existing system cannot distinguish users' floor. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a LED fingerprinting system for accurate indoor positioning. The proposed system uses a received optical power from LEDs and LED-Identification (LED-ID) instead of the Wi-Fi RSS. In training phase, we record LED fingerprints in database at each place. In serving phase, we adopt a K-Nearest Neighbor (K-NN) algorithm for comparing existing data and new received data of users. We show that our technique performs in terms of CDF by computer simulation results. From simulation results, the proposed system shows that a positioning accuracy is improved by 8.6 % on average.

  • MIMO system generally requires more than one antenna at the communication device. However, many wireless devices are limited by size, cost or hardware complexity to one antenna. To overcome such restrictions, we used a new technique, called cooperative communication. We propose a new cooperative transmission strategy system using cross-layer coding method base on H-ARQ for optimal communication. Proposed cooperative H-ARQ system that can improve the above problems and can get the better performance. In proposed cooperative system with H-ARQ method, if the received signal from source node is satisfied by the destination preferentially, the destination transmit ACK message to both relay node and source node, and then recovers the received signal. In addition, if ARQ message indicates NACK message, relay node operates selective retransmission. Based on the simulation results in aspect to BER performance and throughput, the proposed method which combined cooperative system with H-ARQ based on cross-layer coding can improve spectral efficiency reliability of system compared with that of general one by one system.

  • In a WLAN, the data reception rate of a user station depends not only on the received signal strength (RSS) from an AP (Access Point) but also on the contention level of the AP. However, since only the RSSs measured at the physical layer have been used for a station to select an AP to associate with, the station may not satisfy the minimum quality requirements necessary for a seamless IPTV service. Thus, in this paper, we propose an AP selection method to support quality requirements of the IPTV service in a wireless LAN without modifying the IEEE 802.11 standard. A user station keeps monitoring a contention level of APs around it and a quality of an ongoing IPTV service. If the quality deteriorates below a threshold, the station reassociates with another AP having the least load so that the ongoing IPTV program is played without disruption.

  • The necessity for the precise time synchronization of measurement data from multiple sensors is widely recognized in the field of global positioning system/inertial navigation system (GPS/INS) integration. Having precise time synchronization is critical for achieving high data fusion performance. The limitations and advantages of various time synchronization scenarios and existing solutions are investigated in this paper. A criterion for evaluating synchronization accuracy requirements is derived on the basis of a comparison of the Kalman filter innovation series and the platform dynamics. An innovative time synchronization solution using a counter and two latching registers is proposed. The proposed solution has been implemented with off-the-shelf components and tested. The resolution and accuracy analysis shows that the proposed solution can achieve a time synchronization accuracy of 0.1 ms if INS can provide a hard-wired timing signal. A synchronization accuracy of 2 ms was achieved when the test system was used to synchronize a low-grade micro-electromechanical inertial measurement unit (IMU), which has only an RS-232 data output interface.

  • The ST-segment that the beginning part of T wave is the important diagnostic parameter to finding myocardial ischemia. Abnormal ST appears in two types. One is the level change, and the other is the pattern change. In this paper, we describe the monitoring of abnormal ST using PC based system. Hardware of this system consists of transmitter, receiver and PC. The function of transmitter is measuring ECG in three channels which are selected manually and transmitting the data to receiver by digital radio way. Connection with receiver and PC is by RS232C, and the data received on the PC is analyzed automatically by ECG analysis algorithm and saved to file. In the algorithm part for detecting abnormal ST, ST-segments are approximated by a polynomial. This method can detect all of the deviation and pattern change of ST-segment regardless the change in the heart rate or sampling rate. To gain algorithm reliability, the method rejects distorted polynomial approximation by calculation the difference between the approximated ST-segment and original ST-segment. In pre-signal processing, the wavelet transformation separates high frequency bands including QRS complex from the original ECG. Consequently, the process improves the performance of detecting each feature points.

  • For accurate gain tuning of the lab-manufactured six-axis articulated robot RS2 with less noise, in this study, a program routine using dynamic signal analyzer, which is a realization of a controller design algorithm in the frequency domain, is programmed using LabVIEW$^{(R)}$. The contribution of this paper is the proposal of a simulation technique based on SolidWorks$^{(R)}$ and LabVIEW$^{(R)}$ for the gain tuning of a six-axis articulated robot. To realize the simulation, the LabVIEW$^{(R)}$ program used for experimental gain tuning is incorporated in to SolidWorks$^{(R)}$. A comparison shows that the results of simulation-based gain tuning and experimental gain tuning are almost the same within a 5% error bound. On the basis of the comparison, it can be suggested that the simulation-based technique for gain tuning can be applied instead of experimental gain tuning to a six-axis articulated robot by interlocking SolidWorks$^{(R)}$ and LabVIEW$^{(R)}$.

  • The non-pathogenic, non-glycopeptide-producing actinomycete Streptomyces coelicolor carries a cluster of seven genes (vanSRJKHAX) that confers inducible, high-level resistance to vancomycin. The van genes are organised into four transcription units, vanRS, vanJ, vanK and vanHAX, and these transcripts are induced by vancomycin in a vanR-dependent manner. vanHAX are orthologuous to genes found in vancomycin resistant enterococci that encode enzymes predicted to reprogramme peptidoglycan biosynthesis such that cell wall precursors terminate in D-Ala-D-Lac, rather than D-Ala-D-Ala. vanR and vanS encode a two-component signal transduction system that mediates transcriptional induction of the seven van genes. vanJ and vanK are novel genes that have no counterpart in previously characterised vancomycin-resistance clusters from pathogens. VanK is essential for vancomycin resistance in S. coelicolor and it is required for adding Gly branch to stem peptides terminating D-Ala-D-Lac. Because VanK can recognise D-Lac-containing precursors but the constitutively expressed femX enzyme, encoded elsewhere on the chromosome, cannot recognize D-Lac-containing precursors as a substrate, vancomycin-induced expression of VanHAX in a vanK mutant is lethal. Further, femX null mutants are viable in the presence of glycopeptide antibiotics but die in their absence. Bioassay using vanJp-neo fusion reporter system also showed that all identified inducers for van genes expression were glycopeptide antibiotics, but teicoplanin, a membrane-anchored glycopeptide, failed to act as an inducer.
