This study was carried out to elucidate the immunomodulating activity of protein bound polysac charide extracted from Ganoderma lucidum(PSG). Macrophage drived reactive radicals were known as an effector for antimicrobial and anticancer functions. The promising immune response molecule, reactive oxygen intermediates(ROIs), was determined in TIB 71 cells with PSG at various experimental conditions. Treatment with 0.5mg PSG significantly increased the production of ROIs, superoxide anion as well as hydrogen peroxide, from TIB 71 cells(p<0.001). Under the same concentration, con siderable results were obtained from 24 hour cultivation with 106 cells at 5% CO2 incubator. The cells were trigged with PMA(5.3 M) after primed BCG(100 M) or IFN (100U) alone could not induce the production of ROIs, but it had a significant potentiating effect on ROIs secretion when the cells were treated with PSG.
Purpose: Radiation oncology information systems (ROIS) have evolved toward connecting and integrating information between radiation treatment procedures. ROIS can play an important role in utilizing modern radiotherapy techniques that have high complexity and require a large amount of information. Methods: Using AccessTM software, we have developed a relational database that is highly optimized for a radiotherapeutic workflow. Results: The prescription table was chosen as the core table to which the other tables were connected, and three types of forms-charts, worklists, and calendars- were suggested. A fast and reliable channel for delivering orders and remarks according to changes in the situation was also designed. Conclusions: We expect our ROIS design to inspire those who need to develop and manage an individual ROIS suitable for their radiation oncology departments at a low cost.

In this paper, we propose a sequence of method which extrats ROIs(Region of Interests) rapidly from the parcel image of large size. In the proposed method, original image is spilt into the small masks, and the meaningful masks, the ROIs, are extracted by two criterions sequentially The first criterion is difference of pixel value between Inner points, and the second is deviation of it. After processing, some informational ROIs-the areas of bar code, characters, label and the outline of object-are acquired. Using diagonal axis of each ROI and the feature of various 2D bar code, the area of 2D bar code can be extracted from the ROIs. From an experiment using above methods, various ROIs are extracted less than 200msec from large-size parcel image, and 2D bar code region is selected by the accuracy of 100%.

In the steel manufacturing area, researches for defect inspection receive a big attention for quality control. This paper proposes an algorithm to detect a scratch defect on steel billets. This algorithm takes ROIs (Regions of Interest), and extracts 11 features which represent properties of defect on a ROI. SVM (Support Vector Machine) is used to classify defect and normal ROIs. The algorithm classifies a frame image of a Billet as a defect image if there is one or more defect ROIs. In the experiments, the proposed algorithm had reliable classifying accuracy.
In this letter, we propose a new functionality to scalable video coding (SVC), that is, the support of multiple region of interests (ROIs) for heterogeneous display resolution. The main objective of SVC is to provide temporal, spatial, and quality scalability of an encoded bitstream. The ROI is an area that is semantically important to a particular user, especially users with heterogeneous display resolutions. Less transmission bandwidth is needed compared to when the entire region is transmitted/decoded and then sub-sampled or cropped. To support multiple ROIs in SVC, we adopt flexible macroblock ordering (FMO), a tool defined in H.264, and based on it, we propose a way to encode and, independently, decode ROIs. The proposed method is implemented on the joint scalable video model (JSVM) and its functionality verified.
This study is aimed to optimize a location of region of interest (ROI) in test bolus carotid contrast enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (CE-MRA) at 3.0T. A total of consecutive 270 patients with no cardiovascular and vessel diseases were selected. Patients underwent elliptical centric 3D CE-MRA with the test bolus technique to identify the individual arterial arrival time. Quantitative measurements were performed by drawing ROIs of $25mm^2$ and signal intensities (SI) were measured in the center of common carotid artery (CCA), internal carotid artery (ICA) and aortic arch (AA). As a result, ROIs located within AA showed a significantly clarified arterial peak and over three times increased SI, while no significant arterial peak time differences were observed compared to ROIs located within CCA. In conclusion, it was demonstrated that the aortic arch is the optimal position to locate ROI in test bolus images of the carotid CE-MRA.
A substantial body of evidence indicates that reactive oxygen intermediates (ROIs) are implicated in pathogenesis of diverse human diseases, including cancer, diabetes and neurodegenerative disorders. Oxidative stress induced by ROIs often causes cell death via apoptosis that is regulated by a plenty of functional genes and their protein products. In the present work, we have investigated the role of bcl-2 in protecting against oxidative death induced by hydrogen peroxide in cultured rat pheochromocytoma (PC12) cells. (omitted)

Purpose: This clinical pilot study was performed to determine the effectiveness of dual-energy cone-beam computed tomography (DE-CBCT) in measuring bone mineral density (BMD). Materials and Methods: The BMD values obtained using DE-CBCT were compared to those obtained using calibrated multislice computed tomography (MSCT). After BMD calibration with specially designed phantoms, both DE-CBCT and MSCT scanning were performed in 15 adult dental patients. Three-dimensional (3D) Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine data were imported into a dental software program, and the defined regions of interest (ROIs) on the 3-dimensional surface-rendered images were identified. The automatically-measured BMD values of the ROIs (g/㎤), the differences in the measured BMD values of the matched ROIs obtained by DE-CBCT and MSCT 3D images, and the correlation between the BMD values obtained by the 2 devices were statistically analyzed. Results: The mean BMD values of the ROIs for the 15 patients as assessed using DE-CBCT and MSCT were 1.09±0.07 g/㎤ and 1.13±0.08 g/㎤, respectively. The mean of the differences between the BMD values of the matched ROIs as assessed using DE-CBCT and calibrated MSCT images was 0.04±0.02 g/㎤. The Pearson correlation coefficient between the BMD values of DE-CBCT and MSCT images was 0.982 (r=0.982, P<0.001). Conclusion: The newly developed DE-CBCT technique could be used to measure jaw BMD in dentistry and may soon replace MSCT, which is expensive and requires special facilities.
Objectives : In order to evaluate the metabolic changes associated with pericontusional edematous area in mild head injury, proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy(1H-MRS) was performed in mild head injury patients (initial GCS score 13-15) with focal brain contusion. Methods : Seven head injury patients with initial GCS 13-15(3 males and 4 females : age range 15-65 years, mean age 33 years) have underwent 1H-MRS evaluations. The patients were examined within 7 days after injury(n=7) and 2 months after injury(n=5). The region of interest(ROI) was selected in the edematous area adjacent to traumatic brain contusion upon T2-weighted MR images and a corresponding region of the contralateral hemisphere (ROC, region of contralateral corresponding hemisphere) was examined as well. The metabolic ratios of NAA/Cr and lactate/Cr were compared between ROIs, ROCs and control values. Results : In initial NAA/Cr ratios, the values of ROIs were significantly lower than those of the controls(p=0.009), but there was no difference either between ROIs and ROCs(p=0.410) or between ROCs of patients and the control (p=0.199). In lactate/Cr ratios, the ROIs in all seven patients and the ROCs in two showed increased lactate signals. The lactate/Cr ratios of the ROIs were significantly elevated as compared to those of the ROCs(p=0.02) and the control(p=0.015). In two months follow-up, lactate signals were absent or significantly reduced(p=0.015). In no patients, clinical or radiological deterioration has been observed. Conclusion : Our 1H-MRS results demonstrate that there are significant ischemic changes in pericontusional edematous areas as indicated by elevated lactate signals in the patients with mild head injury. But there were no consistent neural loss or dysfunction in these area. There findings suggest that pericontusional edematous areas can be vulnerable to secondary brain insults even in the patients with mild head injury.

We investigated algorithm to detect and characterize interstitial lung abnormalities seen at chest radiographs. This method includes a process of 4 directional Laplaction-Gaussian filtering, and a process of linear opacity judgment. Two regions of interest (ROIs) were selected in each right lung of patients, and these ROIs were processed by our computer-analyzing system. For quantitative analysis of interstitial opacities, the radiographic index, which is the percentage of opacity areas in a ROI, was obtained and evaluated in the images. From or result, abnormal lungs were well differentiated from normal lungs. In our algorithm, the processing results were not only given as the numeric data named "radiographic index" but also confirmed with radiologists observation on CRT. The approach, by which the interstitial abnormalities themselves are extracted, is good enough because the results can be confirmed by the observations of radiologists. In conclusion, our system is useful for the detection and characterization of interstitial lung abnormalities.
