Ni alloy tape is electropolished to be used as a metal substrate for fabrication of IBAD (ion-Beam Assisted Deposition)-MgO texture template fur HTS coated conductor. Electropolishing is needed to obtain a very smooth surface of Ni alloy tape because the in-plane texture of templates is sensitive to the roughness of metal substrate. The critical current of YBCO coated conductor depends on the texture of YBCO that depends on the texture of the IBAD MgO layer. And so the smoothness of the metal substrate is directly related to the superconducting properties of the coated conductor. In this study, we have prepared a reel-to-reel electropolishing apparatus to polish the Ni alloy tapes for IBAD. Various electropolishing conditions were investigated to improve the surface roughness. Hastelloy tape is continuously electropolished with high polishing current density (0.5 ∼ 2 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$) and fast processing time (1 ∼ 3 min). Polished hastelloy tapes have surface roughness(RMS) of below 1 nm on a 5 ${\times}$ 5 $\mu\m^2$ from AFM and SEM.

This study evaluates the variation characteristics of irregular wave fields for two-dimensional Low-Crested Structure (LCS) by olaFlow model based on the two-phases flow by numerical analysis. The numerical results of olaFlow model are verified by comparing irregular wave profile of target wave spectrum and measured one, and their spectra. In addition, spacial variation of irregular wave spectrum, wave transmission ratio, root-mean square wave height, time-averaged velocity and time-averaged turbulent kinetic energy by two-dimensional LCS are discussed numerically. The time-averaged velocity, one of the most important numerical results is formed counterclockwise circulating cell and clockwise nearshore current on the front of LCS, and strong uni-directional flow directing onshore side around still water level.

A new phase-shifted parallel-input/series-output(PISO) dual converter for tush-power step-up applications has been proposed. Since the proposed converter shows a low switch turn-off voltage stress, switching devices with low conduction loss can be employed in order to improve the power conversion efficiency. Moreover, it features a low output capacitor root-mean-square(RMS) current stress, low input current and output voltage ripple contents, and fast control-to-output dynamics compared to its PWM counterpart. In this paper, the operation of the proposed converter is analyzed in detail and its mathematical models and steady-state solutions are presented. A comparative analysis with the conventional PWM PISO dual converter is also provided. To confirm the operation, features, and validity of the Proposed converter, experimental results from an 800W, 24-350Vdc prototype are presented.
A wind-driven current in the East Sea from Lagrangian measurements of wind and current at 15 m using MiniMet drifters was analyzed. Spectral analysis of the current from 217 pieces of a 10 day-long time series shows the dominant energy at the inertial frequency for the current at 15 m. Wind has energy peaks at a 0.2-0.5 cycles per day (cpd) frequency band. The power spectrum of the clockwise rotating component is predominant for the current and was 1.5-2 times larger than the anticlockwise rotating component for wind. Co-spectra between the wind and current show two peak frequency bands at subinertial frequency and 0.5-0.3 cpd. Coherences between the wind and current at those peak frequencies are significant with 95% confidence and phase differences were $90-100^{\circ}$. From the phase differences, the efolding depth is estimated as 17 m and this e-folding depth is smaller than the estimation by Chereskin's (1999) 25 m using a moored Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler and an anemometer installed at the surface buoy. The angle between the wind-driven current (or ageostrophic current) and wind from this study was also much larger than the global estimate by Rio and Hernandez (2003) using reanalysis wind and drifters. The possible explanation for the discrepancy comes from the fact that the current is driven by a wind of smaller length scale than 250 km but the satellite or the reanalysis products do not resolve winds of length scale smaller than 250 km. Large rms differences between Mini-Met and QuickSCAT wind on spatial lags smaller than 175 km substantiate this explanation.
AC powder EL devices were fabricated by screen printing method with the dielectric materials in insulating layer and the electrical resistivity of rear electrode. Brightness and current density were measured at voltage range of 50∼300 $V_{rms}$ to estimate optoelectrical properties of AC powder EL devices, respectively. Frequency generator was used as system producing frequency and voltage of a sine wave. Brightness and current density were measured by luminometer and multimeter. Also, dielectric constant for dielectric layer was measured by impedance analyser after preparing thick film. Dielectric constant was improved with amount of $TiO_2$ to $BaTiO_3$ powder. By applying such a process to dielectric layer of low cost AC powder EL device, brightness was improved to 50 cd/$m^2$ at similar current density. Dielectric constant $BaTiO_3$ powder by solution combustion process is better than commercial $BaTiO_3$ powder. By applying to that of low power consumption AC powder EL device, brightness was improved to 85 cd/$m^2$. Brightness of AC powder EL device was relatively decreased by control of electrical resistivity of rear electrode, current density was also decreased.
We present the relationship between vector magnetic field parameters and solar major flare occurrence rate. Based on this, we are developing a forecast model of major flare (M and X-class) occurrence rate within a day using hourly vector magnetic field data of Space-weather HMI Active Region Patch (SHARP) from May 2010 to April 2017. In order to reduce the projection effect, we use SHARP data whose longitudes are within ${\pm}60$ degrees. We consider six SHARP magnetic parameters (the total unsigned current helicity, the total photospheric magnetic free energy density, the total unsigned vertical current, the absolute value of the net current helicity, the sum of the net current emanating from each polarity, and the total unsigned magnetic flux) with high F-scores as useful predictors of flaring activity from Bobra and Couvidat (2015). We have considered two cases. In case 1, we have divided the data into two sets separated in chronological order. 75% of the data before a given day are used for setting up a flare model and 25% of the data after that day are used for test. In case 2, the data are divided into two sets every year in order to reduce the solar cycle (SC) phase effect. All magnetic parameters are divided into 100 groups to estimate the corresponding flare occurrence rates. The flare identification is determined by using LMSAL flare locations, giving more numbers of flares than the NGDC flare list. Major results are as follows. First, major flare occurrence rates are well correlated with six magnetic parameters. Second, the occurrence rate ranges from 0.001 to 1 for M and X-class flares. Third, the logarithmic values of flaring rates are well approximated by two linear equations with different slopes: steeper one at lower values and lower one at higher values. Fourth, the sum of the net current emanating from each polarity gives the minimum RMS error between observed flare rates and predicted ones. Fifth, the RMS error for case 2, which is taken to reduce SC phase effect, are smaller than those for case 1.
The high efficient AC powder EL devices classified by low cost and low power consumption type fabricated using screen printing method with film thickness and organic binder. Brightness and current density were measured at frequency range of 400Hz∼1kHz and voltage range of 50∼300V$\_$rms/ to estimate optoelectrical properties of AC powder EL devices, respectively. Frequency generator was used as system producing frequency and voltage of a sine wave. Also brightness and current density were measured by luminometer and multimeter. In the case of low cost type AC powder EL device, brightness and current density were about 43 cd/m$^2$and 20$\mu$A/cm$^2$when the thickness of phosphor and dielectric layer was 45∼50$\mu$m under no addition of plasticizer respectively. In the case of low power consumption type AC powder EL device, brightness and current density were about 74 cd/m$^2$and 30∼40$\mu$A/cm$^2$when the thickness of phosphor and dielectric layer was 45∼50$\mu$m and 15∼20$\mu$m under addition of 15wt% plasticizer respectively. Also, AC powder EL device fabricated in this study showed absolutely excellent characteristics as the lifetime was longer than products of other company.

The presenet research attempts to examine the combustion characteristics and the structure of the flame in turbulent premixed flames and thus enhance the combustion performance that leads to the design of the effective combustion system (untilizing LNG). Following experimental investigations for several stabilized premixed flames were attempted to identify the interactive mechanism between flame structures and flow fields; Visualization by Schlieren method, measurement of flow velocity by LDV, detection of ion current by ion probe, measurement of fluctuating temperature by thermocouple having compensation circuit, average values with respect to time of fluctuating amount for flow velocity, temperature, ion current, etc., variable RMS values, PDFs, autocorrelation, crosscorrelation, spatial macroscale, power spectra, and velocity scale. Continuing the authors published studies whose flame dominated by coherent structures and the characteristics of combustion reaction for irregular three dimensional flame and stabilized flame by step were investigated with obtained experimental quantities. Results of this research are following : The most turbulent flames support the structure of a Wrinkled laminar flame or laminar flamelets. It also observed that combustion reaction is related to small tubulence microscales of the turbulent flow fields closly.
The fiat fluorescent lamp(FFL) can be used to the LCD bat]flighting. In order to evaluate the discharge characteristics of FFL firing voltage, discharge current, luminance and CIE chromaticity with frequency were measured. The experimental results show that firing voltage decreased with increasing the frequency, discharge current increased with increasing the frequency. Luminance of FFL using Xe gas shown $2700\;cd/m^2$ in 700V rms, 80 kHz.
This paper presents a design method for a filter application in a parts-of FA(Factory Automation). Normal equations for ripple voltage and current are derived in terms of dimensionless quantities, and these equations can be used directly to evaluate the values of LC-filter components, taking into consideration the effect of the ripple components on the rms value of the PWM-generated ripple components. Using describing function technique, design equations of the filter are derived. The data needed for the filter evaluation are the amplitude of current ripple and the frequency of square pulses delivered by the HE(Harmonic Elimination) inverter algorithm. Experimental results show that the design of the filter can be based on the method proposed and that the filter can provide a significant reduction of ripple components.
