  • It is required to automate a manufacturing industry of a glasses frame, because of the inaccuracy in assembly and shortage of labor. So, in this paper, rim-lock electric welding system has been developed in order to automate a electric welding process and to increase welding quality. Rim-lock electric welding system consists of circular and linear feeder, holder for welding rim and lock, and the equipment for silver-lead provision and so forth. Main controller is a V55 microprocessor which is easy to be expanded into other function. Control program is programed using 'C' language which is easier than other language in coding, modification and adding function. At the practical welding that Rim-Lock electric welding system from this study is used, we can get such advantages as uniform quality of electric welding, continuous operation and improved productivity.

  • Threshold porosity above which fission gas release channels would be formed in the rim egion of high burnup UO$_2$ fuel was estimated by the Monte Carlo method and Hoshen-Kopelman algorithm. With the assumption that both rim pore and rim grain can be represented by cube, pore distribution in the rim was simulated 3-dimensionally by the Monte Carlo method according to porosity and pore size distribution. Then, using the Hoshen-Kopelman algorithm, the fraction of open rim pores interlinked to the outer surface of a fuel pellet was derived as a function of rim porosity. The simulation showed that porosity of 24-25% is the threshold above which the number of rim pores forming release channels increases very rapidly. On the other hand, channels would not be formed if the porosity is less than about 23.5%. This is consistent with the observation that, for porosity less than 23.5%, almost no fission gas is released in the rim. However, once the rim porosity reaches beyond 25%, extensive open paths would be developed and considerable fission gas release would start in the rim.

  • To develop the MEMS cap bonding process without cavity formation, we electroplated Cu/Sn rim structures and measured the bonding characteristics for the Cu/Sn rims of $25{\sim}400{\mu}m$ width. As the effective device-mounting area ratio decreased and the failure strength ratio increased for wider Cu/Sn rim, these two properties were estimated to be optimized for the Cu/Sn rim with 150 ${\mu}m$ width. Complete bonding was accomplished at the whole interfaces of the Cu/Sn packages with the rim widths of 25 ${\mu}m$ and 50 ${\mu}m$. However, voids were observed locally at the interfaces with the rim widths larger than 100 ${\mu}m$. Such voids were formed by local non-contact between the upper and lower rims due to the surface roughness of the electroplated Sn.

  • By introducing the concept of overpressurization of rim pores due to dislocation punching, the total pressure exerted on the rim pores is estimated. Then this concept is combined with the assumption that all the fission gases produced in the rim region are retained in the rim region to calculate the rim porosity. Rim porosities calculated in this way are compared with measured data, which produces reasonable agreement. Finally a correlation for the thermal conductivity of the rim region is obtained using the hypothesis that the rim region consists of pores and fully dense material of UO$_2$.

  • Since there are $OH^-,\;[SiO_4]^{4-}$ ion of high concentration at early hydration in the system added with activator (NaOH+$Na_2OSiO_2$) in the blast furnace slag, different from cement hydration, hydration progresses fast without induction period and forms reaction rim around the blast furnace slag grain. $0.6{\mu}m$ reaction rim was formed around the blast furnace slag grain from the 1 day of reaction period, and the thickness of reaction rim increases over the reaction time, growing to $1{\mu}m$ on the 28 days. Unreacted blast furnace slag grain deformed from angular shape to the spherical shape. Mole ratio of Ca/Si tends to decrease from inside of blast furnace slag grain to reaction rim. Difference of Ca/Si mole ratio between reaction rim and inside the blast furnace slag grain decreased and generated hydrate was a poor crystalline CSH(I) with Ca/Si mole ratio less than 1.5.

  • In this paper, we introduce a ground radiation antenna that uses controlled endless metal rim modes. In the proposed technique, the metal rim mode is tuned and excited as a one-wavelength radiator by a small ground radiation antenna. The proposed antenna occupies a clearance of $1mm{\times}4mm$ in a $30mm{\times}20mm$ ground plane. A metal rim with dimensions of $34mm{\times}24mm$ surrounds the ground plane, and the metal rim is separated from the ground plane by a gap of 2 mm. In addition, a lumped capacitor is inserted between the metal rim and the ground plane to control the characteristic mode of the metal rim such that the resonance of the metal rim is tuned to be equal to the operating frequency. By performing simulations and measurements, we compare the performance of the proposed antenna with that of a reference antenna that does not have an inserted capacitor between the metal rim and the ground plane. The results show that a significant improvement of the radiation performance is obtained by employing the proposed technique.

  • In [6] Schensted constructed the Schensted algorithm, which gives a bijection between permutations and pairs of standard tableaux of the same shape. Stanton and White [8] gave analog of the Schensted algorithm for rim hook tableaux. In this paper we give a generalization of Stanton and White's Schensted algorithm for rim hook tableaux. If k is a fixed positive integer, it shows a one-to-one correspondence between all generalized hook permutations $\mathcal{H}$ of size k and all pairs (P, Q), where P and Q are semistandard k-rim hook tableaux and k-rim hook tableaux of the same shape, respectively.

  • Purpose: The objective of the study: At present, the spectacles, with its use as a medical aids or a fashion trimming, are recognized as one of the living necessities which can't be separated from human body. One of the features of spectacles is that it must be worn on any part of human body. Such a feature has to be satisfied under the condition an user keeps feeling comfortable with the rim of spectacles worn. In order to ensure meeting this condition, a criterion has to be arranged for the design of the rim of spectacles. In order to manufacture a rim of spectacles which allows an user to secure a comfortable range of vision as well as enhancing the feeling when to be worn, a manufacturing standard has to be established based on optical science. No precise rim of spectacles could be made from the manufacturing method depending on the manufacturer's sensibility. When the rim of spectacles was manufactured according to the incorrect standards, it may cause an user such a fatal result as myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. Methods: This study focuses on providing a detailed explanation about the design of rim, which is the most important element during designing a rim of spectacles, making use of the optical elements of spectacles, and helping the manufacturers and the people who work in the spectacles-related business understand and recognize what is correct and exact and then leading them to establish a standard in respect to the manufacture and selection of spectacles. Results, Conclusions: Considering the fact there happen many errors in relation with the names of rim stipulated in the provisions of International Standards Organization (ISO), due to wrong interpretation by some of the rim manufacturers, the right interpretation should be given about the bridge which is directly connected to rim, so that the rims of spectacles manufactured in Korea could keep a favorable position in competing with the foreign products of same kinds.

  • Jing(gong) is one of the most well known Korean traditional Samulnori instruments to the general public. Samulnori is consisted of four instruments, them being : the jingo the janggu (hour-glass drum). the kkwaenggwari, and the buk(drum). Of the four instruments, the jing with its deep, and yet soft and beautiful long lingering sound embraces the sounds of the other three. The jing is a brassware instrument, a compound of $70{\%}\;copper\;and\;22{\%}\;tin.$\;A high quality brassware is used when the jing is made. The jing is shaped with a 39-40cm circular plate and a rim that gives 7.0-7.5cm of depth to the instrument. Even with its most simple structure, when the circular plate is hit during performance, the rim which supports the circular plate gives resonance to the sound making low-frequency sounds. Therefore the range of the representative frequency of the full rim jing is between $118.4{\~}366.0[Hz],$\;the lingering sound lasts for more than 20 seconds afterwards. When the jing with half of its rim cut off is hit the basic frequency is $139.9{\~}387.5[Hz].$\;And the sound lasted for ten more seconds. The jing of its rimless frequencies are distributed between $990.5{\~}1,372[Hz].$\;And the lingering sound lasts for 5seconds afterwards. Therefore, different thickness and depth of the rim may give new resonance frequencies and alter the longing time of the sound. This thesis paper will try to reveal the relationship between the thickness or depth of the rim (which holds the bending circular plate) and the frequency or the lasting time of the sound.

  • Applicability of the threshold burnup for rim formation was investigated as a function of temperature by Rest's model. The threshold burnup was the lowest in the intermediate temperature region, while on the other temperature regions the threshold burnup is higher. The rim porosity was predicted by the van der Waals equation based of the rim pore radius of 0.75${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and the overpressurization model on rim pores. The calculated centerline temperature is in good agreement with the measured temperature. However, more efforts seem to be necessary for the mechanistic model of the rim effect including rim growth with the fuel burnup.
