For tracing tag locations, the trajectories should be modeled and indexed in a radio frequency identification (RFID) system. The trajectory of a tag is represented as a line that connects two spatiotemporal locations captured when the tag enters and leaves the vicinity of a reader. If a tag enters but does not leave a reader, its trajectory is represented only as a point captured at entry. Because the information that a tag stays in a reader is missing from the trajectory represented only as a point, it is impossible to find the tag that remains in a reader. To solve this problem we propose the data model in which trajectories are defined as intervals and new index scheme called the Interval R-tree. We also propose new insert and split algorithms to enable efficient query processing. We evaluate the performance of the proposed index scheme and compare it with the R-tree and the R*-tree. Our experiments show that the new index scheme outperforms the other two in processing queries of tags on various datasets.

RFID systems are being studied and developed in the area of the industry and marketplace. Recently RFID systems are core element of the ubiquitous technologies in individual life and industry. However, RFID systems often cause some serious problems such as violation of privacy and information security because their contactless devices communicate each other by radio frequency In this paper, we propose multiple objects RFID tag scheme including tag structure and authentication protocol. The proposed RFID tag structure maintains several object IDs of different applications in a tag memory. The tag structure allows those applications to access object IDs simultaneously. The authentication protocol for multiple objects tag is designed ta overcome the problems of security and privacy. The protocol has robustness against various attacks in low cost RFID systems. We evaluate the efficiency of proposed scheme and compare security of our scheme with several traditional schemes.

In many applications a reader needs to determine whether a particular tag exists within a group of tags without a server. This is referred to as serverless RFID tag searching. A few protocols for the serverless RFID searching are proposed but they are the single tag search protocol which can search a tag at one time. In this paper, we propose a multi-tag search protocol based on a hash function and a random number generator which can search some tags at one time. For this study, we introduce a protocol which can resolve the problem of synchronization of seeds when communication error occurs in the S3PR protocol[1], and propose a multi-tag search protocol which can reduce the communication overhead. The proposed protocol is secure against tracking attack, impersonation attack, replay attack and denial-of-service attack. This study will be the basis of research for multi-tag serach protocol.

This paper proposes a modified tag collection algorithm that improves the drawback of the identified slot scan-based tag collection algorithm presented in a previous paper to improve the tag collection performance in active RFID systems. The previous identified slot scan-based tag collection algorithm is optimized in situations where all the tags store the fixed size of data, so it could not result in a good performance improvement with tags having the variable size of data. The improved tag collection algorithm proposed in this paper first collects the slot size information required for the data transmission from each tag via the identified slot scan phase, and then performs the tag collection phase using the information, which resolves the problem of the previous identified slot scan-based tag collection algorithm. The simulation results for performance evaluation showed that the proposed tag collection algorithm resulted in the almost same tag collection performance as the previous algorithm when all the tags have the same size of data and led a large improvement of the tag collection performance in ISO/IEC 18000-7 unlike the previous algorithm when each tag has a random size of data.

Localization is a essential technology for mobile robot to work well. Until now expensive sensors such as laser sensors have been used for mobile robot localization. We suggest RFID tag based localization system. RFID tag devices, antennas and tags are cheap and will be cheaper in the future. The RFID tag system is one of the most important elements in the ubiquitous system and RFID tag will be attached to all sorts of goods. Then, we can use this tags for mobile robot localization without additional costs. So, in this paper, the smart floor using passive RFID tags is proposed and, passive RFID tags are mainly used for identifying mobile robot's location and pose in the smart floor. We discuss a number of challenges related to this approach, such as tag distribution (density and structure), typing and clustering. When a mobile robot localizes in this smart floor, the localization error mainly results from the sensing range of the RFID reader, because the reader just ran know whether a tag is in the sensing range of the sensor. So, in this paper, we suggest two algorithms to reduce this error. We apply the particle filter based Monte Carlo localization algorithm to reduce the localization error. And with simulations and experiments, we show the possibility of our particle filter based Monte Carlo localization in the RFID tag based localization system.

The conductivity of various electro-threads is analyzed, and the washable electro-thread embroidery UHF RFID tag antennas using the character shape without T-matching structure are designed by adding a T-matching structure. The RFID tag antenna using the electro-thread is easy to be embedded on a cloth as a wearable antenna because it is flexible and different from general copper inlay shape and tape type tag. The embroidery tag antennas are designed with the English alphabet 'F' and the Korea alphabet 'ㄹ' character. Those are easy to be applied to general clothes. The parameters of antennas are optimized and fabricated. The characteristics and the reading range patterns of the tag antennas are measured. The reading ranges of wet tags(tap water, sea water and soapy water) are tested and compared.
As RFID technology has been developed rapidly, its technical potential has it be widely used in many industrial fields. Particularly, in the physical distribution industry, the introduction of RFID has enormously contributed to effectively monitoring locations and information of products in real-time. Also, a significant decline in tag prices and RFID related technical competitiveness enabled each tag to be managed much more minutely by attaching it to an item, not a pallet nor a container. However, if a very large volume of tag data are continuously flowed into a RFID middleware with limited hardware resources, its entire data processing time may become considerably longer. Therefore, specific technologies are in great demand to handle and further to reduce the load of the middleware. In this paper, we proposed a mobile agent-based software module to efficiently reduce the load of the middleware by pre-processing a lot of tag data while items are in transit. Simulation results show that using the proposed software module considerably enhances the speed of processing tag data than otherwise. This behavior increases the tag recognition rate in a certain time limit and improves reliability of RFID middlewares.

This paper proposes a tag antenna for radio frequency identification (RFID) food system. The RFID tag antenna is designed and fabricated based on the rectangular loop concept used in the UHF band (Korean and Japanese standards, 916.7-923.5MHz). The proposed tag antenna is composed of a radiation patch, sensor tag chip, temperature sensor, oscillator, and battery. We conjugated matching between the tag antenna and the sensor tag using a U-shaped stub. Details of the proposed tag antenna design and the simulated and measured results are presented and discussed.

Object recognition in the field of robotics generally has depended on a computer vision system. Recently, RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) has been suggested as technology that supports object recognition. This paper, introduces the advanced RFID-based recognition using a novel tag which is named a 3D tag. The 3D tag was designed to facilitate object recognition. The proposed RFID system not only detects the existence of an object, but also estimates the orientation and position of the object. These characteristics allow the robot to reduce considerably its dependence on other sensors for object recognition. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of the 3D tag-based RFID system. In addition, the estimation methods of position and orientation using the system are discussed.
