  • The current RFID middleware standard is ALE (Application Level Event) of EPCglobal that takes the lead in RFID standardization. ALE suggests the minimal interface and extension points so that it can be operated independently from system infrastructure, and actual implementation is left to vendors. But there is no specific mention with regard to functional extension through extension points, and It is very hard to extend or modify the function on running system. To solve this problem, we suggest AOP (Aspect Oriented Programming)-based ALE middleware framework for developing RFID middleware. In addition, we designed aspect for RFID middleware for implementing and extending functions according to ALE rules and for the convenience of maintenance.

  • This paper is an embedded system using the X-Hyper Intel PXA255 ARM CPU that base of the Linux operation system. This system applies tag information reading through RFID leader to Library executive system and designed and embody RFID middleware. The RFID middleware is consisted of RFID module, ARM processor and RS-232 interface. The RFID module is used to be inputted user and books information and RS-232 interface pass information by RFID middleware. Also, This system is embodied by specific Library management system using embedded exclusive use ARM processor. In this paper introduces concept and action principle of RFID middleware and uses Qt/Embedded and embodied manless loaning and return system.

  • RFID tag awareness information and sensor data continuously change, and are categorized with the position. They are able to similar data in the side, called massive data to change in time. If two data are managed together, a convergence process of object awareness along change of environment is possible. If RFID middleware and EPCIS repository realized the integrated system, it is usable with the functions of middleware and repository at the same time. The real-time awareness information retrieval is possible without process, getting information from another middleware. In this paper, it is able to continuously read information from RFID reader and sensor equipment and store to database in order to make general object awareness and an object retrieval dependent on an environmental information change possible by real time. ALE-compliant middleware and EPCIS repository proposing for standards at EPCglobal is designed and implemented to be able to deal with RFID and sensor data to bases on the collected data.

  • Conventional middleware is software providing services between clients and servers efficiently, but it is not applicable to RFID systems because of low consistency due to the absence of context awareness function, and problems in the management of meaning, security system, etc. Accordingly, we need a quality selection process and a quality evaluation method for selecting RFID middleware based on new criteria. This Paper proposed a new selection process based on international standard ISO/IEC 14598, and extracted and selected optimal quality factors through the proposed process. The selected quality factors were mapped to the quality characteristics of standard quality model ISO/IEC 9126, and to quality factors of RFID middleware of SUN, Microsoft, EPCglobal, IBM, etc. The results of these works showed that the quality factors extracted and selected through the proposed process were fair and adequate for evaluating the quality of RFID middleware.

  • ALE-complient RFID middleware system receives EPC code data from reader devices and converts the data into URN format data internally. After filtering and grouping, the system sends the resulting URN code to application and(or) users. Meanwhile, not only the types of EPC code are very diverse, but also another new kinds of EPC code can be emerged in the future. Therefore, a method to process all kinds of EPC code effectively is required by RFID middleware. In this paper, a method to process various kinds of EPC code acquired from RFID reader devices in ALE-complient RFID middleware is proposed. Especially, we propose an approach using ontology technology to process not only existing EPC code but also newly defined code in the future. That is, we build an ontology of conversion rules for each EPC data type to effectively convert EPC data into URL format data. In this case, we can easily extend RFID middleware to process a new EPC code data by adding a conversion rule ontology for the code.

  • Reverse logistics is the process of planning and controlling the recovery flow of end of life products. Industry is increasingly being confronted with the need to solve several reverse logistics issues because of not only stringent environmental legislations but also economic reasons. Recently, thanks to the advent of emerging technologies, such as RFID, enhancing the productivity of reverse logistics operations has been highlighted. The application of RFID technology is going beyond forward logistics, which is the delivery of manufactured goods to consumers, and being expanded, though not frequently yet, to reverse logistics, which includes return, recovery, reuse, reproduction and disposal. However, it requires a deep insight for the research of reverse logistics and new environment. In this regard, we studied effectiveness by applying RFID middleware technology to reverse logistics.

  • USN and RFID, as new technologies for realization of ubiquitous computing, are closely related with each other technically. Nevertheless, these technologies are recognized as a separate research topic, and there are few researches on technical convergence of the two research areas. In this paper, we propose an efficient processing method of various kinds of sensor data which are used in USN environment to provide efficiency from the view point of not only convergence of USN and RFID technologies but also cost and extensibility. Especially, we propose a method of conversion of various sensor data into EPC data format which can be handled in a RFID middleware. Using the proposed method, RFID middleware systems based on international standard specification can handle not only RFID tag data but also general sensor data efficiently, and various types of ubiquitous application services can be implemented at low cost and in a short time.

Moreover, RFID and the convergence of mobile terminals RFID research started as a B2B service area, B2C services and the expansion of the zone. B2B2C to in order to provide services ranging from mobile terminals for RFID technology development is needed. We develop middleware for a mobile RFID terminal. It consists of multi-code recognition module, the reader control module, the module code interpretation, and Dispatcher module. We present the implementation of these functions on an emulator.

  • KISA announced KKR code system observing the international standard, ISO/IEC 15459, in order to activate the domestic RFID industry and improve mutual operation among RFID services. In this paper, we propose the way on code conversion based on ontology methods so as to effectively convert various types of RFID KKR code data collected from RFID reader into URN code in the middleware based on the ALE standard spec of EPC global. The results of experiment show that various types of RFID KKR code data could be converted into URN codes successfully. This means that even though new types of KKR code are added, it can be extended easily by adding ontology information without rebuilding the middleware.

  • This parer propose a U-dormitory management system based on 13.56MHz RFID system. The proposed U-dormitory management system consists of three parts, the RFID hardware system, the middleware, and the application. RFID hardware system uses 13.56MHz frequency which is suitable for a close range. The middleware is implemented to accept the RFID hardware system values using RS-232c communication method and forward the values to the application. The application is designed to make the DB using the forwarded Haloes, and works based on the DB. The efficacy of the Proposed U-dormitory management system is verified by means of experiments. In the experiments, we set up the system to the dormitory of Daeduk College to show the improvement results of proposed system.
