Pilot Case for Container Security Device (CSD) Based on Active RFID

  • CSD is Active RFID based Container Security Device which is proposed by the U.S Department of Home Security. It is mounted inside the container to sense opening of the container door. ConTracer is the CSD which is developed in this research whose major features are sensing door opening status as well as history inquiring on internal environment and shock to the container by mounting the temperature/ humidity/ shock sensors. Moreover, its RFID frequency bandwidth uses 433MHz and 2.4GHz to correspond actively to the frequency used by different countries. This paper introduces the development trend of CSD, compares the ConTracer which is developed thru this research and other company's CSD, and introduces CSD System which is designed and established using ConTracer. Finally, the implemented CSD System is verified by applying the demonstration service to container distribution between Korea and China.

  • In this paper we will discuss a general idea about an information system which provides information a user really needs in user's authentication. We will discuss how RFID could be applied for this kind of system especially from the standpoint of using RFID as a way to collect information of personal belongings. Also we will discuss security issues of using RFID as a component of the proposed system because while RFID could provide usefulness, it could also be very dangerous for revealing private information without user's awareness.

  • IT기술의 발달과 더불어 손쉽게 정보를 얻을 수 있는 RFID/USN 환경을 구축하여 편리하게 사용하고 있는 것이 사실이다. 그에 반해 개인정보 침해문제가 RFID 서비스에서 더욱 이슈화되고 있어 정보보호 문제는 RFID/USN 서비스를 사용함에 있어 해결해야 할 문제가 되었다. 본고에서는 기존의 RFID/USN의 정보보안 위협과 향후 그 대응방안에 대한 동향을 분석해 보고자 한다.

  • RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) is a system to identify objects and its usage is being extended to distribution, healthcare, and air&port etc. RFID is a contactless system environment, and reducing tag authentication time is important because multiple tags are identified at the same time. Studies about RFID system so far is, however, mostly to improve security vulnerability in the tag authentication process. Therefore, this paper suggests an efficient scheme to decrease the time of tag authentication which is also safe for the security of tag authentication process. The proposed scheme cuts down on the tag ID search time because it searches only the classified relevant ID in the database, which is one of many components of RFID system, by using identification bits for tag ID search. Consequently, the suggested scheme decreases process time for tag ID authentication by reducing the processing time and the load of the database. It also brings performance improvement of RFID system as it improves the energy applicability of passive tag.

  • Mobile RFID system, that consists of the existing RFID reader mounted on the mobile devices such as smartphones, is able to provide the users a variety of services and convenience. But security of mobile RFID system is too weak like the existing RFID system. In this paper, the mobile RFID mutual authentication protocol with high level of security is proposed to overcome the troubles such as cryptographic protocols in the existing RFID system responding with the same value in every authentication procedure and the exposure in the exchange of messages. The proposed protocol exchanges messages unexposed by using the random numbers generated in the mutual authentication between the tag and the reader and making numbers coded with the symmetric key. Besides, the protocol uses the mutual authentication utilizing OTP by considering the characteristics of the reader embedded in mobile devices in the mutual authentication process between the reader and the server. Because changed message in every authentication, which produces safe from spoofing attacks and replay attacks, etc.

  • In many applications a reader needs to determine whether a particular tag exists within a group of tags without a server. This is referred to as serverless RFID tag searching. A few protocols for the serverless RFID searching are proposed but they are the single tag search protocol which can search a tag at one time. In this paper, we propose a multi-tag search protocol based on a hash function and a random number generator which can search some tags at one time. For this study, we introduce a protocol which can resolve the problem of synchronization of seeds when communication error occurs in the S3PR protocol[1], and propose a multi-tag search protocol which can reduce the communication overhead. The proposed protocol is secure against tracking attack, impersonation attack, replay attack and denial-of-service attack. This study will be the basis of research for multi-tag serach protocol.

  • Radio frequency identification(RFID) system can identify an object using wireless transmission. RFID applications are numerous and far reaching. The most interesting and widely used applications are supply chain management for companies. Currently, RFID tags must be detached or killed for security and privacy reasons when tagged objects are purchased. In this paper, we present a new architecture that transfers information about products from the electronic product code information services (EPCIS) server of a company to an individual's personal purchases management (PPM) server when products with RFID codes are sold. It solves the security and privacy issues without detaching the tag. Moreover, the PPM server described in this paper allows customers to handle the expiration dates, updates, location management, and group management of products.

  • In an RFID search protocol, a reader uses designated query to determine whether a specific tag is in the vicinity of the reader. This fundamental difference makes search protocol more vulnerable to replay attacks than authentication protocols. Due to this, techniques used in existing RFID authentication protocols may not be suitable for RFID search protocols. In this paper, we propose two RFID search protocols, one based on static ID and the other based on dynamic ID, which use counter to prevent replay attacks. Moreover, we propose a security model for RFID search protocols that includes forward/backward traceability, de-synchronization and forgery attack. Based on this model, we analyze security of our protocols and related works.

  • RFID that provide automatic identification by reading a tag attached to material through radio frequency without direct touch has some specification, such as rapid identification, long distance identification and penetration, so it is being used for distribution, transportation and safety by using the frequency of 125KHz, 134KHz, 13.56MHz, 433.92MHz, 900MHz, and 2.45GHz. Also it is one of main part of Ubiquitous that means connecting to net-work any time and any place they want. RFID is expected to be new growth industry worldwide, so Korean government think it as prospective field and promote research project and exhibition business program to linked with industry effectively. RFID could be used for access control of person and vehicle according to section and for personal certify with password. RFID can provide more confident security than magnetic card, so it could be used to prevent forgery of register card, passport and the others. Active RFID could be used for protecting operation service using it's long distance date transmission by application with positioning system. And RFID's identification and tracking function can provide effective visitor management through visitor's register, personal identification, position check and can control visitor's movement in the secure area without their approval. Also RFID can make possible of the efficient management and prevention of loss of carrying equipments and others. RFID could be applied to copying machine to manager and control it's user, copying quantity and It could provide some function such as observation of copy content, access control of user. RFID tag adhered to small storage device prevent carrying out of item using the position tracking function and control carrying-in and carrying-out of material efficiently. magnetic card and smart card have been doing good job in identification and control of person, but RFID can do above functions. RFID is very useful device but we should consider the prevention of privacy during its application.

RI-RSA system design to increase security between nodes in RFID/USN environments (RFID/USN 환경에서 노드들간의 보안성 증대를 위한 RI-RSA 시스템 설계)

  • Due to the IT development, RFID/USN became very familiar means of communication. However, because of increased number, security, and size constraints of nodes, it is insufficient to implement a variety of services. To solve these problems, this paper suggests RI-RSA, which is an appropriate asymmetric cryptographic system for RFID/USN environment. The proposed RI-RSA cryptographic system is easy to implement. To increase the processing speed, RI-RSA was suggested by subdividing the multiplication section into two-dimensional, where bottleneck phenomena occurs, and it was implemented in the hardware chip level. The simulation result verified that it caused 6% of circuit reduction, and for the processing speed, RI-RSA was 30% faster compare to the existing RSA.
