  • RFID middleware is the system software that converts EPC data collected from RFID reader devices into meaningful data, that users want, and transfers the result to the users with a variety of protocols. ALE specification, the RFID middleware specification proposed by EPCglobal that is a leading group of do facto international standards with respect to RFID, can handle only EPC code. Meanwhile, a new code system which is called KKR was proposed by NIDA in order to represent RFID tag data in a specific manner and cultivate the domestic RFID industry. In this case, the existing RFID middleware can not process KKR code system because of inherent attributes of the system. In this paper, we proposed a method of KKR code conversion to properly process KKR code in ALE middieware, implemented our method in real, and adopted it into existing ALE middleware. Also, we proposed a new URN format for RFID tag data to manipulate KKR code in ALE middleware. By using the proposed method, the existing ALE middleware conforming to international specification can handle KKR code effectively, and the integration among RFID middleware and legacy systems can be easily supported also.

  • This paper presents an advanced RFID reader system implementing multi-protocols and multi-standards at 900MHz. In accordance with the strict regulations specified by ISO 18000-6 B-Type and EPC Global Gen 2, we have designed corresponding systemic factors which meet the domestic radio frequency utilizing bands of 910-914MHz. In addition, we develop numerous crucial factors of system compatibility options including SSB (Single-Side Band) and DSB (Double-Side Band) specifications, also OOK (On-Off Keying), ASK (Amplitude Shift Keying) and PR-ASK (Phase Reversed-Amplitude Shift Keying) modulation formula. Remarkable technical features of system in this paper can be the direct conversion routines using I/Q Modulation/Demodulation respectively, and Full-Duplex formulation operating at identical frequency bands.

  • This paper proposes a tag antenna for radio frequency identification (RFID) food system. The RFID tag antenna is designed and fabricated based on the rectangular loop concept used in the UHF band (Korean and Japanese standards, 916.7-923.5MHz). The proposed tag antenna is composed of a radiation patch, sensor tag chip, temperature sensor, oscillator, and battery. We conjugated matching between the tag antenna and the sensor tag using a U-shaped stub. Details of the proposed tag antenna design and the simulated and measured results are presented and discussed.

  • Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and many countries make an effort to conserve and utilization of animal genetic resources to prepare for our unpredictable future. In order to protect the customer and the producer from the animal diseases and unjust distribution, many country seek to appropriate solution. Among the solutions, RFID technology can be used as a basic technology, since this technology can be applied in the conservancy and utilization of animal genetic resources, object management for improved animal and traceability of animal's distribution flow. There are two main issues in making the efficient RFID environment. The first issue is the standardization of code system for object identification. International Organization for Standard (ISO) published the standard which regulates RFID of animal (ISO 11784 and ISO 11785). Based on these standards, many countries have tried to establish their national standard. In Korea, National Institute of Animal Science (NIAS) playa main role in establishing the standard of object identification code based on ISO 11784. Even though the standard format of object's identification is well established, the RFID system may not be operated well without the standardization of RFID network and related equipment. In Korea, National Internet Development Agency of Korea (NIDA) has proposed the RFID Network at 2006, which can be applied in the different kind of system at each phase. But, the implementation case of this RFID Network does not reported yet, since many company or agency who introduce RFID technology, implemented as an isolated individual system. In our study, we show that RFID network can be utilized for any kind of system at each phase, and propose the improvement point in order to be widely used.

  • An active RFID system has the advantages of a long identification distance and a good identification rate as well as overcoming the passive RFID's drawback such as the lowering of identification rate on metal materials. So, the development of an active RFID system has been gradually increasing in harbor logistics and the national defense area. On the other hand, some identification failures between products developed under the same standards have been reported, and there are difficulties in evaluating the interoperability between developed Products and standard conformance test because an accurate evaluation method and equipment has not been established at the international level. Motivated by these, this study presents a realization of the hardware and software of emulator to evaluate the standard conformance of an active RFID system, Performance of the designed system are then analyzed by means of simulations of Matlab/Simulink, and the applicability of the emulator is verified by evaluating the standard conformance of a real active RFID tag.

  • In this paper, we propose a policy-driven RFID data management event definition language, which is possibly applicable as a partial standard for SSI (Software System Infrastructure) Part 4 (Application Interface, 24791-4) defined by ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 31/WG 4 (RFID for Item Management). The SSI's RFID application interface part is originally defined for providing a unified interface of the RFID middleware functionality―data management, device management, device interface and security functions. However, the current specifications are too circumstantial to be understood by the application developers who used to lack the professional and technological backgrounds of the RFID middleware functionality. As an impeccable solution, we use the concept of event-constraint policy that is not only representing semantic contents of RFID domains but also providing transparencies with higher level abstractions to RFID applications, and that is able to provide a means of specifying event-constraints for filtering a huge number of raw data caught from the associated RF readers. Conclusively, we try to embody the proposed concept by newly defining an XML-based RFID event policy definition language, which is abbreviated to rXPDL. Additionally, we expect that the specification of rXPDL proposed in the paper becomes a technological basis for the domestic as well as the international standards that are able to be extensively applied to RFID and ubiquitous sensor networks.

  • RFID tag awareness information and sensor data continuously change, and are categorized with the position. They are able to similar data in the side, called massive data to change in time. If two data are managed together, a convergence process of object awareness along change of environment is possible. If RFID middleware and EPCIS repository realized the integrated system, it is usable with the functions of middleware and repository at the same time. The real-time awareness information retrieval is possible without process, getting information from another middleware. In this paper, it is able to continuously read information from RFID reader and sensor equipment and store to database in order to make general object awareness and an object retrieval dependent on an environmental information change possible by real time. ALE-compliant middleware and EPCIS repository proposing for standards at EPCglobal is designed and implemented to be able to deal with RFID and sensor data to bases on the collected data.

  • We have proposed a UHF/HF multi-band RFID reader, and have implemented it into a system in a package(SiP). The proposed SiP RFID reader has been designed to support both for EPCgloabal Class1 Generation2 protocol of UHF band, and 13.56MHz RFID protocols of ISO14443 A/B type, and ISO15693 standards. The operating mode is controlled by embedded RISC core, and the mode can be selected by users. The area of implemented SiP is $40mm{\times}40mm$ with 4 metal layers. The implemented reader SiP operates at single supply voltage of 3.3V. The maximum current consumption is 210mA. The operating distances are 5cm for 13.56MHz modes, and 20cm for UHF mode.

  • Operating on its own to develop a system or based on the standard to setup and operating of RFID System. If you want to operate RFID system yourself then It is no problem to use its own to develop a system, but have to implementation RFID System based standard for the system integration and data linkage in multiple companies or base. In this paper, I propose an EPCIS Capturing Application of the element for applying an RFID-based EPC Network as an international civil standards organization EPCglobal. EPCIS Capturing Application generation is a message for transmission to EPCIS receives the data transmitted from the reader and middleware to serve to transfer the EPCIS. This paper also proposes Capture Interface capable of receiving the data of the equipment does not use the ALE Interface as a portable RFID reader ALE Interface, as well as used by the RFID reader to implement a fixed system for use in the field. In this paper, we propose a EPCIS Capturing Application for tracking the history RFID is applied to the finished product. It is possible to take advantage to be applied to all systems based on the EPCglobal standard through proposed the EPCIS Capturing Application.

  • In this paper, we investigated the recognition range according to modulation index for the ISO(International Standards Organization) 14443 13.56MHz contactless Type B RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) system. We measured recognition range with changing modulation index step by step from 5% to 24% where we used 4 samples of Type B transponder with different resonance frequencies between 13.838MHz and 17.200MHz. While gradually increasing a distance in vertical direction from the center of the reader antenna, we measured the distance where the transponder's PUPI(Pseudo Unique PICC(Proximity IC Card) Identifier) is recognized continuously during 10 seconds and the distance where the transponder's PUPI is recognized at least two times during 5 seconds. From the measurement results, we found that the best recognition ranges were achieved when the reader had modulation index between 11% and 14%.
