  • Incorrect deployment of RFID readers occurs reader-to-reader interferences in many applications using RFID technologies. Reader-to-reader interference occurs when a reader transmits a signal that interferes with the operation of another reader, thus preventing the second reader from communicating with tags in its interrogation zone. Interference detected by one reader and caused by another reader is referred to as a reader collision. In RFID systems, the reader collision problem is considered to be the bottleneck for the system throughput and reading efficiency. In this paper, we propose a novel RFID reader anti-collision algorithm based on evolutionary algorithm(EA). First, we analyze characteristics of RFID antennas and build database. Also, we propose EA encoding algorithm, fitness algorithm and genetic operators to deploy antennas efficiently. To show superiority of our proposed algorithm, we simulated our proposed algorithm. In the result, our proposed algorithm obtains 95.45% coverage rate and 10.29% interference rate after about 100 generations.

  • Tag collection is one of the major concerns in radio frequency identification(RFID) system. All tags in RFID reader's transmission range send response message back to the reader in response to collection request message on the given rf channel. When multiple tags respond simultaneously, tag-collision may occur. Tag-collision problem is one of the most important issues in active RFID performance. To mitigate this problem, frame slotted ALOHA(FSA) anti-collision protocol is widely used in active RFID system. Several studies show that the maximum system efficiency of FSA anti-collision protocol is 36.8%. In this paper, we propose an efficient slotted CSMA/CA protocol to improve tag collection performance. We compare our protocol to the FSA anti-collision protocol. For the experiment, an 433MHz active RFID system is implemented, which is composed of an RFID reader and multiple tags. We evaluated the tag collection performance using one RFID reader and 40 tags in the real test bed. The experimental result shows that proposed protocol improves the tag collection time, round and collision probability by 18%, 37.4% and 77.8%, respectively.

  • This paper presents a 13.56 MHz RFID reader that can be used as a door-lock system for smart home security. The RFID reader consists of a transmitter, a receiver, and a data processing block. To verify the operation of the developed RFID reader, we present both a PSPICE simulation for transmitter/receiver and a digital simulation for data processing block. In particular, a CRC block for error detection of received data and a Manchester decoding block for position detection of collided data are designed using VHDL. In addition, we applied a binary search algorithm for multi-tag anti-collision. The anti-collision procedure is carried out by PIC microcontroller on software. The experimental results show that the developed reader can provide the right multi-tag recognition.

  • When an RFID reader attempts to read tags, interference might occur if the neighboring readers also attempt to communicate with the same tag at the same time or the neighboring readers use the same frequency at the same time. These interferences cause the RFID reader collision. When the RFID reader collision occirs, either the command from the reader can not be transmitted to the tags or the response from the tags can not be received by the reader correctly. RFID reader anti-collision algorithms have been developed to reduce it. One of the best blown reader anti-collision algorithms is the Colorwave algorithm proposed by MIT. The Colorwave algorithm reduces the reader collisions by having the readers operate at different times. In Colorwave the time is divided into frames and a frame is divided into a number of slots. Each reader can access the tags using the slot time assigned to it. Depending on the probability of the interference, the colorwave adjusts the frame size to improve the efficiency. In this paper, we analyze the operations and the performance of the Colorwave algorithm and identify the problems of the algorithm. We also show that by adding some modifications to the algorithm the performance can be improved significantly.

  • This paper aims to build up a RFID-automated cargo movement system in an air-cargo warehouse. In our research, we do the spectrum measurements compliant with the RFID frequency bands to observe the interferences from legacy systems in the air-cargo warehouse. To overcome the dense-reader mode (DRM) problem, we apply three novel approaches, which are the periodic transmit of a reader, the Visible RFID reader & tag, and the sensor-based RFID system. Moreover, for the tag collision issue, we implement the Adaptive Adjustable Framed Q(AAFQ) algorithm, and the demonstration on RFID tag anti-collision algorithms show that the AAFQ algorithm has highly desirable tag anti-collision performance compared to any other commercially available solutions.

  • In radio frequency identification(RFID) systems, when an RFID reader uses the same or adjacent frequency with neighbor readers, the interference between the readers may occur, which causes the reader collision and errors in tag recognition. In the previous study on RFID reader anti-collision, the techniques based on Frequency Division Mutiplex(FDM) or Time Division Multiplex(TDM) are proposed. However in these paper, the problem on the condition of RFID reader-to-reader interference considering the distance between interfering readers, frequency and operating time is not define exactly. In this paper, the interference effect is analyzed through RFID reader interference model considering the TDM and FDM, and the optimization problem is defined. To solve this, genetic-resource allocation technique is proposed. Therefore the optimal resource allocation applied RFID environment faithfully is accomplished.

  • In RFID field, when the neighboring readers try to occupy the same or adjacent channel simultaneously, there exists reader-to-reader interference; it calls reader collision. From the reader collision, the tags cannot response correctly query from the reader. Reader anti-collision schemes have been developed, and particularly, the Listen-Before-Talk(LBT) scheme is proposed to avoid reader collision in ETSI in multi channel environment. However, in ETSI, there is a drawback that the reader collision does not decreases effectively because the reader selects randomly a channel without considering the channel environment and readers try to occupy the channel concurrently. In this paper, we propose a algorithm based on LBT scheme considering multi channel environment as well as made up for the drawbacks of LBT The proposed algorithm applies random backoff, the collision avoidance mechanism. And it can reduce delay because of our proposed estimation mechanism Simulation using OPNET shows that the proposed algorithm achieves higher superiority than that of the simple algorithms in sparse and dense reader mode.

  • In RFID System, when multiple tags respond simultaneously, a collision can occur. A method that solves this collision is referred to anti-collision algorithm. In Gen-2 RFID system, if the slot-count size varies during a query round due to the collisions, a new query round begins with a QueryAdjust command. Anti-collision algorithm of Gen-2 RFID system is simple. But, it has the tag starvation problem that a tag may never be successfully identified because its responses always collide with others. Therefore, this paper proposes a scheme to guarantee the fair identification delay. In the proposed scheme, if the slot-count value changes due to the collisions, the reader broadcasts a CollisionRound command to begin a collision round. During the collision round, the reader identifies only tags that occurred collision during the previous query round.

  • The most important mission of RFID reader is identify EPC (Electronic Product Code) of RFID tag of products that located within distinguishable range of RFID reader. RFID reader transmits query message to RFID tags through wireless channel and RFID tags send unique EPC to response its query message simultaneously. therefore tag collision occurred frequently. RFID tags collision resolution algorithm required to apply RFID technology to various industries. In this paper, we propose enhanced M-ary algorithm that collision bits location is used by not only RFID reader but also tags. the main feature of the proposed algorithm is that integrate multiple query message of M-ary QT algorithm to the single query message by analyze multiple response messages from tags. the simulation results show that the proposed algorithm give better performance than M-ary QT algorithm in terms of the number of query-response, identification efficiency and communication overhead.
