Design and Implementation of a Smart Tag System for Ubiquitous Port Logistics (유비쿼터스 항만 물류 환경을 위한 스마트 태그 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • In recent, rapid and accurate processing for logistics have been required, according as logistics has grown dramatically. Especially, identifying, locating, or tracking objects in ports are important, because ports are gateways to extended markets. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of a smart tag system for ubiquitous port logistics. Our solution consists of three parts: an active RFID to identify objects, an electronic container seal to charge with security of containers, and a RTLS system to locate objects. Because identification technology for logistics can be read by heterogenous systems, compliance with the international standard is one of the most critical issues. This paper introduces the method to maintain compliance with ISO, and conducts some verifications. In addition, we analyze the system performance such as lifetime, identification rate, and time for multiple tag identification.

Performance comparison of the RF-DC converter circuit for wireless power transmission (무선전력전송을 위한 RF-DC 변환기 회로의 성능비교)

  • A RF-DC converter is one of the most important components for a wireless power transmission. It has been developed for many applications such as space solar power system, and Radio Frequency Identification(RFID). In this paper, we designed three types of RF-DC converter and compare the performance of each. All types RF-DC convertoer have a maximum conversion efficiency at input power level of 0 dBm~5 dBm and RF-DC converter of third type was the best performance that has a 21.9% of conversion efficiency.

High Performance of Printed CMOS Type Thin Film Transistor

  • Printed electronics is an emerging technology to realize various microelectronic devices via a cost-effective method. Here we demonstrated a high performance of p-channel and n-channel top-gate/bottom contact polymer field-effect transistors (FETs), and applications to elementary organic complementary inverter and ring oscillator circuits by inkjet processing. We could obtained high field-effect mobility more than $0.4\;cm^2/Vs$ for both of p-channel and n-channel FETs, and successfully measured inkjet-printed polymer inverters. The performance of devices highly depends on the selection of dielectrics, printing condition and device architecture. Optimized CMOS ring oscillators with p-type and n-type polymer transistors showed as high as 50 kHz operation frequency. This research was financially supported by development of next generation RFID technology for item level applications (2008-F052-01) funded by the ministry of knowledge economy (MKE).

  • Performance evaluation has been done using financial indices which are generally regarded as inappropriate for the organizations which are innovative and progressive. Thus, the Balanced Scorecard(BSC) was developed considering long term performance and invisible performance. This BSC has four perspectives of finance, customer, internal operation, and learning. Based on the BSC, a new BSC has been derived with a fifth view of environmental and social perspective, which is now called as a Sustainability BSC. In this study, we evaluated Green IT initiatives using the Sustainability BSC. The initiatives are categorized as RFID, telepresence, paperless office, logistics management etc. The initiatives were evaluated from the view of five perspectives, resulting in high cor relationships among finance, internal operation, and environmental and social perspectives. Namely, good initiatives from the view of environmental/social perspective are also evaluated as good from the view of finance and internal operation perspectives. In this study, we recommend organizations to introduce Green IT initiatives by showing how Green IT initiatives have contributed to the organizations.

Performance Analysis of Location Estimation Algorithm Using an Enhanced Decision Scheme for RTLS

  • In this paper, we proposed a high precision location estimation algorithm using an enhanced decision scheme for RTLS and analyzed its performance in point of an average estimation error distance at 2D coordinates searching area, $300m\times300m$ and LOS propagation environments. Also the performance was compared with that of conventional TDOA algorithm according to the number of available reader and received sub-blink. From the results, we confirmed that the proposed location estimation algorithm using an enhanced decision scheme was able to improve an estimation accuracy even in boundary region of searching area. Moreover, effectively reduced an error distance in entire searching area so that increased the stability of location estimation in RTLS. Therefore, we verified that the proposed algorithm provided a more higher estimation accuracy and stability than conventional TDOA.

  • As smart devices and OS with communication capabilities based latest NFC (Near Field Communication) have been spreaded, many applications with using existing RFID are being replaced to NFC. Smart NFC technology and existing services and devices can be easily combined convergence and advantage of smart phones, such as authentication and billing, medical care, the creation of a new paradigm of Network Communication are to be expected. By developing H/W, S/W of the Smart NFC Security Authenticator(SNSA), satisfying with wireless communication test results within accepted reference value, analyzing and testing the impact of topology, the signal performance of Daisy Chain Topology was much better than Star Topology's.

  • Recently research efforts for ubiquitous technology that includes RFID(Radio Frequency Deification and sensor networks are conducted very actively The architectural framework of the USN sensor network discovery service. The survey of the USN technology is conducted on four technological visions that contain USN system technology USN networking technology and USN middleware along with the service platform, With respect to each technological division domestic and worldwide leading research projects are primarily explored with their technical features and research projects are primarily explored with their technical features and research outputs. Boasted on the result of the survey we establish a USN software model that includes data sensing, sensor data storage sensor data storage sensor data naming and sensor feed name service. This main objective of this model is to provide a reference model for the facilitation of USN application developments.

  • In this paper, we explore the inductively coupled concept and propose a class of electrically small planar antennas. The antennas are optimized using NEC in conjunction with a Pareto GA. These antennas show good efficiency and bandwidth performance without any additional matching network. Several optimized designs are fabricated and measured. We explain the operating principle of these antennas using a simple lumped element circuit model. The proposed antennas are translated as printed lines on Duroid for RFID tag antennas.

  • Recently electronic circuit pattern printing technologies like antennas of RFID process are paid attention. oven drying system is being used since drying and curing time of RFID Tag Gravure printing normally takes from 5 minutes and up to 30 minutes long. In this case the parental material which is of a sheet shape is possible, however, for a massive and a continuous production drying and curing process must be done on-line. This research compared and analyzed the an oven type drying device and a traditional hot-air drying device. Considering the experiment result, the cell depth that shows low resistivity, which doesn't consider the pattern difference, is $31{\sim}33{\mu}m$. Also, oven drying system showed some resistivity after around 120 seconds of drying time, and showed much better performance in minimum resistivity compared to the hot-air drying system.

  • Most of campus vehicle management systems, so far, have simple functions such as managing vehicle in/out or issuing parking tickets. Recently some of them use RFID tags to count total numbers of cars in the campus, excluding exact parking position management. In this paper we propose a new campus vehicle management system using wireless sensor network location management scheme. This system adopts RSSI based location management method with some performance improvement technique. According to the experimental result, this proposed scheme can be used to implement an effective campus vehicle management system.
