A Low Power smartRF Transceiver Hardware Design For 2.4 GHz Applications

  • There are many researches to reduce power consumption of battery-operated Transceiver for 2.4 GHz smartRF applications. However, components such as processor, memory and LCD based power managements reach the limit of reducing power consumption. To overcome the limit, this research proposes novel low-power Transceiver and transceiver Hardware Design. Experimental results in the real smartRF Transceiver show that the proposed methods can reduce power consumption additionally than component based power managements.

레이다용 Phased RF Sub-Array MIMO 알고리즘 실시간 구현 (Real-time Implementation of Phased RF Sub-Array MIMO Algorithm for Radar)

  • 기존의 레이다는 RF Sub-Array 방식의 레이다 알고리즘을 적용하여 개발되어 왔고, 최근 차량용 레이다용으로 Full 디지털 방식의 Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) 레이다 알고리즘을 적용하여 구현되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 미확보 기술인 RF Sub-Array 방식의 하드웨어에 Phased MIMO 방식을 적용한 레이다 알고리즘을 실시간 가능하도록 구현 및 검증하였다. RF Sub-Array 방식의 Phased MIMO 알고리즘 기술 확보 차원에서 FPGA 기반의 실시간 신호처리를 위한 하드웨어 구조를 제시하고 이에 대한 설계 및 시뮬레이션을 통하여 성능을 먼저 예측하였으며, 이를 통하여 FPGA 기반의 광대역 MIMO FMCW 레이더의 디지털 송수신 신호처리 하드웨어를 개발하였고 최종적으로 RF Sub-Array 방식의 Phased MIMO 레이다 알고리즘을 실시간 구현 및 검증하였다. 이를 바탕으로 향후 테라헤르츠 대역 레이다 등에 필요한 핵심 기술 확보 및 응용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

RF Band-Pass Sampling Frontend for Multiband Access CR/SDR Receiver

  • Radio frequency (RF) subsampling can be used by radio receivers to directly down-convert and digitize RF signals. A goal of a cognitive radio/software defined ratio (CR/SDR) receiver design is to place the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) as near the antenna as possible. Based on this, a band-pass sampling (BPS) frontend for CR/SDR is proposed and verified. We present a receiver architecture based second-order BPS and signal processing techniques for a digital RF frontend. This paper is focused on the benefits of the second-order BPS architecture in spectrum sensing over a wide frequency band range and in multiband receiving without modification of the RF hardware. Methods to manipulate the spectra are described, and reconstruction filter designs are provided. On the basis of this concept, second-order BPS frontends for CR/SDR systems are designed and verified using a hardware platform.

Sensing Optimization for an Receiver Structure in Cognitive Radio Systems

  • This paper describes the optimization of spectrum sensing in terms of the throughput of a cognitive radio (CR) system. Dealing with the optimization problem of spectrum sensing, this paper evaluates the throughput of a CR system by considering such situations as the penalty time of a channel search and incumbent user (IU) detection delay caused by a missed detection of an incumbent signal. Also, this paper suggests a serial channel search scheme as the search method for a vacant channel, and derives its mean channel search time by considering the penalty time due to the false alarm of a vacant channel search. The numerical results suggest the optimum sensing time of the channel search process using the derived mean channel search time of a serial channel search in the case of a sensing hardware structure with single radio frequency (RF) path. It also demonstrates that the average throughput is improved by two separate RF paths in spite of the hardware complexity of an RF receiver.

  • 본 논문은 유비쿼터스 헬스케어 시스템을 위하여 생체 정보 단말기 개발에 있어 심음 신호를 기반한 RF-Tag의 하드웨어 구조와 신호처리 방법을 제안한 것이다. 본 연구에서의 RF-Tag는 체온 센서와 심음 검출을 위한 다이나믹 마이크로폰, 측정된 헬스정보를 전송하기 위한 블루투스 통신, 적응 이득제어기로 이루어진 심박 주기 검출 알고리즘으로 구성되어 있다. RF-Tag의 성능 분석을 위해 잡음환경에서 실험하였으며, 그 결과 우수한 성능을 보였다. 본 연구에서 제안한 방법을 u-헬스케어 단말기에 적용한다면, 모바일 환경에서도 실시간적으로 정확한 헬스 정보를 얻을 수 있을 것이라 사료된다.

  • In this paper, we propose a new RF education system using real module that engineer apply at actual companies and laboratories. The proposed system provides beginner and college students with a real effect of RF hardware education. The Optimized RF education system we present is made up of a real passive module, active module, mobile communication module, DSP based system.

A Searching Algorithm for Minimum Bandpass Sampling Frequency in Simultaneous Down-Conversion of Multiple RF Signals

  • Bandpass sampling (BPS) techniques for the direct down-conversion of RF bandpass signals have become an essential technique for software defined radio (SDR), due to their advantage of minimizing the radio frequency (RF) front-end hardware dependency. This paper proposes an algorithm for finding the minimum BPS frequency for simultaneously down-converting multiple RF signals through full permutation over all the valid sampling ranges found for the multiple RF signals. We also present a scheme for reducing the computational complexity resulting from the large scale of the purmutation calculation involved in searching for the minimum BPS frequency. In addition, we investigate the BPS frequency allowing for the guard-band between adajacent down-converted signals, which help lessen the severe requirements in practical implementations. The performance of the proposed method is compared with those of other pre-reported methods to prove its effectiveness.

  • In recent, the contactless IC card is widely used in traffic, access control system and so forth. Contactless smart cards use a technology that enables card readers to provide power for transactions and communications without making physical contact with the cards. Usually electromagnetic signal is used for communication between the card and the reader. Contactless card is highly suitable for large quantity of card access and data transaction. And its use becomes a general tendency more and more because of the development of RF technology and improvement of requirement for user convenience. This paper describes the hardware module to process contactless protocol for implementation contactless IC card. And the hardware module consists of specific digital logic circuits that analyze digital signal from analog circuit and then generate data & status signal for CPU, and that convert the data from CPU into digital signal for analog circuit.

SDR Based Modulation Performance of RF Signal under Different Communication Channel

  • Hardware components are an integral part of Hardware Define Radio (HDR) for seamless operations and optimal performance. On the other hand, Software Define Radio (SDR) is a program that does not rely on any hardware components for its performance. Both of the latter radio programmers utilize modulation functions to make their core components from signal processing viewpoint. The following paper concentrates on SDR based modulation and their performance under different modulations. The bit error rate (BER) of modulations such as PSK, QAM, and PSAM were used as indicators to test channel quality estimation in planar Rayleigh fading. Though it is not commonly used for channel fading, the method of the adder determines the regionally segmented channel fading. Thus, the estimation error of the channel change substantially reduces the performance of the signal, hence, proving to be an effective option. Moreover, this paper also elaborates that BER is calculated as a function of the sample size (signal length) with an average of 20 decibels. Consequently, the size of the results for different modulation schemes has been explored. The analytical results through derivations have been verified through computer simulation. The results focused on parameters of amplitude estimation error for 1dB reduction in the average signal-to-noise ratio, while the combined amplitude deviation estimation error results are obtained for a 3.5 dB reduction

  • 본 논문은 QPSK 변조방식을 사용하는 W-CDMA 사용자 설비 시스템에서 진폭 불균형 및 위상 불균형과 같은 RF I/Q 성능열화 요인들에 의한 시스템 성능열화 현상을 다루었다. I/Q 진폭 및 위상 에러에 의한 인접 심볼 간 거리변화를 이용하여 BER 성능 열화를 분석하였고, Matlab 시뮬레이션을 통해 I/Q 진폭 및 위상 에러에 의한 BER 성능열화를 검토하였다. 테스트를 고려하여 구현된 RF 트랜시버와 변복조 측정 장비를 이용하여 성능열화를 에러 벡터 크기 값으로 측정함으로써 하드웨어 구현관점에서 W-CDMA사용자 설비 시스템의 I/Q 진폭 및 위상 에러에 관한 최소 성능요구 사항과 성능열화 요인 측정 방법을 제시하였다.
