A CMOS Intermediate-Frequency Transceiver IC for Wireless Local Loop (무선가입자망용 CMOS 중간주파수처리 집적회로)

  • This paper describes a COMS IF transceiver IC for 10-MHz bandwidth wireless local loops. It interfaces between the RF section and the digital MODEM section and performs the IF-to-baseband (Rx) and baseband-to-IF (Tx) frequency conversions. The chip incorporates variable gain amplifiers, phase-locked loops, low pass filters, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters. It has been implemented in a 0.6 -${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ 2-poly 3-metal CMOS process. The phase-locked loops include voltage-controlled oscillators, dividers, phase detectors, and charge pumps on chip. The only external complonents are the filter and the varactor-tuned LC tank circuit. The chip size is 4 mm $\times$ 4 mm and the total supply current is about 57 mA at 3.3 V.

  • A real time interactive controller (spectrometer) for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system has been developed using high speed digital signal processors (DSP). The controller generates radio frequency (rf) waveforms and audio frequency gradient waveforms and controls multiple receivers for data acquisition. By employing DSPs having high computational power (e.g., TMS320C670l) real time generation of complicated gradient waveforms and interactive control of selection planes are possible, which are important features in real-time imaging of moving organs, e.g., cardiac imaging. The spectrometer was successfully implemented at a 1.5 Tesla whole body MRI system for clinical application. Performance of the spectrometer is verified by various experiments including high- speed imaging such as fast spin echo (FSE) and echo planar imaging (EPI). These high-speed imaging techniques reduce measurement time, however, usually intensify artifact if there is any systematic phase error or jitter in the synchronization between the transmitter, receiver, and gradients.

  • 본 논문은 밀리미터파 대역 무선통신 시스템 송신부의 응용을 위해 CPW 구조를 이용하여 V-band용 상향 주파수 혼합기와 2단 구동증폭기를 설계$\cdot$제작하였다. 능동소자는 본 연구실에서 제작한 $0.1{\mu}m$ 게이트 GaAs Pseudomorphic HEMTs(PHEMTs)를 사용하였으며 입$\cdot$출력단은 CPW를 사용해 정합 회로를 설계하였다. 제작된 상향 주파수 혼합기는 LO power 5.4 dBm, 2.4 GHz IF 신호를 -10.25 dBm으로 입력하였을 때 Conversion Loss 1.25 dB, LO-to-RF Isolation은 58 GHz에서 13.2 dB의 특성을 나타내었다 2단 구동 증폭기는 측정결과 60 GHz에서 S21 이득 13 dB, $58\;GHz\;\~\;64\;GHz$ 대역에서 S21 이득 12 dB 이상을 유지하는 광대역 특성을 얻었고 증폭기의 Pl dB는 3.8 dBm, 최대 출력전력은 6.5 dBm의 특성을 얻었다.

  • The receiver of this paper is Dual-band monopulse type for prototype of tracking radar. Localization of radar technology is an issue of SamsungThales and go into development. Dual-band radar in comparison with Single-band radar requires higher cost and power consumption but there are many advantages of dealing with jamming, detection range, image signal rejection, cloud-rain influence, clutter, resolution. The receiver is comprised of X-band RF head module, Ka-band RF head module and common IF module. Each signal of X-band and Ka-band is selected by the switch in If module. Phase shifter in IF module of local stage controls the phase of sum, azimuth, elevation channel. In the test result, gain is $40{\pm}3 dB$, isolation of transmitter/receiver is 39 dBc, dynamic range is 110 dB and noise figure of each channel is 4.5dB and 6.9dB.

  • The shielding effectiveness of materials is determined by measuring the ratio of the incident electromagnetic power to that which passes through the material under test. The measurement system is constructed using several test fixtures, tracking generator, spectrum analyzer, step attenuator, RF switches, and amplifiers, etc.. The automation of measurements is completed using a personal computer. Especially, incident power, reflected power, and transmitted power are measured with only one spectrum analyzer using a dual directional coupler and RF switches. Therefore the system is to be used in design of shielding materials, as well as shielding effectiveness measurements. This system has dynamic range of more than 120 dB in the frequency range of 10 MHz to 1 GHz, and it can be used to measure shielding effectiveness of composite materials.

  • In this paper, we explained the design technique about Ka-band active limiter for protecting the receiver of a millimeter wave seeker. To implement low flat leakage power, we proposed the control circuit of active limiter to control limiter voltage with PRF(Pulse Repetition Frequency) signal and input power. This active limiter consisted of the conventional 2 stage passive limiter, a feedback circuit with a directional coupler, detector, non-inverting amplifier and over-current protection resistance. As the test result of the fabricated Ka-band limiter, it had 1 GHz bandwidth, 3.5 dB insertion loss at the small input power and -7.5 dBm flat leakage at the 4 W RF input power, respectively.

  • Ambient backscatter communication has a drawback in which the transmission power is limited because the data is transmitted using the ambient RF signal. In order to improve transmission efficiency between transceiver, a channel estimator capable of estimating channel state at a receiver is needed. In this paper, we consider the K-means algorithm to improve the performance of the channel estimator based on EM algorithm. The simulation uses MSE as a performance parameter to verify the performance of the proposed channel estimator. The initial value setting through K-means shows improved performance compared to the channel estimation method using the general EM algorithm.

  • We improve the performance of WCDMA repeater by cancelling the feedback interference radio signal under the fixed point implementation. Floating-point DSP or FPGA to implement the ICS algorithm may have an disadvantage of high cost, To solve this problem, we suggest the ICS algorithm based on LMS under fixed point operation, and show the validity of our results by comparing with the floating-point results through numerical simulation.

  • 송수신기의 방식에는 직접변환 방식과 기저대역 신호와 LO(Local Oscillator)를 혼합하여 interpolation 기법을 사용하여 중간 주파수 단계까지 up conversion을 하고 두 번째 LO와 IF신호를 혼합하여 RF신호로 변환하여 송신하는 헤테로다인 방식이 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 이런 송수신기 방식 중에서 헤테로다인 방식을 적용하여 QPSK에서의 digital up /down converter를 Simulink 환경에서 설계 및 구현하였다. Up converter는 4배의 interpolation 필터와 4단짜리 cascaded integrate-comb(CIC)필터를 사용하여 입력데이터의 샘플 레이트를 클럭 레이트까지 증가시켰으며, numerically controlled oscillator (NCO)와 mixer를 사용하여 신호를 변조하였다. Down converter의 구조는 up converter와 동일하며 단지 up converter의 반대순서로 구성되어있다. 이런 모든 과정을 Simulink를 이용한 시뮬레이션과 스펙트럼 분석기를 사용하여 검증해 보았다.

Analysis of the Protection Ratio of GPS System in the Presence of RF Interference Radiated by UWB System (UWB 시스템의 간섭 신호에 대한 GPS 보호 비 분석)

  • This paper analyzes potential interference effects of Ultra Wide Band(UWB) on Global Positioning System(GPS) which is providing safety service. For the interference analysis, positioning error method is used to determine the minimum protection distance to meet positioning error of 2.5 m below and Minimum Coupling Loss(MCL) method is used to determine the required protection ratio(I/N) from the protection distance of UWB transmitter and GPS receiver to meet positioning error of 2.5 m below. In a result, the minimum protection distance to meet positioning error of 2.5 m below was about 10 m and the protection ratio to meet positioning error 2.5 m below was -20 dB. The protection ratio proposed in this paper is the same value of the protection ratio of safety service proposed by ITU-R. The obtained protection ratio can be used for the protection standard of domestic GPS system for the safe of life service.
