The purpose of this study is to calculate agricultural water demand as considering landuse plan of the farm land on the Saemangeum tidal land reclamation project. This study based on the farm landuse plan(2012) and considered some items which did not included previous work like prevention water for resalinization for paddy and upland and muli-purpose water for upland. This study showed that the agricultural water demand estimated $145.123Mm^3/yr$, which is needed as much $14.792Mm^3/yr$ as more water than previous work. The difference comes from the change of unit water demand. Water demand is possible to be changed if guidelines are improved and detailed design work is completed through further study. Especially, the more studies for prevention water for resalinization in a tidal reclaimed farmland and water demand for a horticulture are needed.

Cyclic simple shear test apparatus was used to investigate the dynamic response of liquefiable soils as reclamation material. The specimen were reclamation using simple air-pluviation method. The confining stress was applied the range of 100 kpa to 200 kpa. The resulted strain was in the range of $10^{-3}$ ~ 5 %. Based on these test results modulus reduction curve, damping curve and cyclic strength curve were developed. The developed curves were compared to those already available in literature. The obtained curves can be applied to FEM or equivalent linear analysis such as SHAKE for ground response analysis.
Three dimensional numerical experiments that included the land-use transformation by the large scale reclamation were used to investigate the mesoscale air flow over the coastal regions. In this paper the surface temperature of the inland was determined through the surface heat budget consideration with inclusion of a layer of vegetation. The vertical diffusion coefficients of momentum, heat and specific humidity in the constant flux layer were taken from the Mellor and Yamada(1975). It has shown that the resulting model is able to reproduce the air circulation in coastal regions, and the simulated characteristics agree with the known properties of this circulation. A series of numerical experiments were then carried out to investigate the diurnal response of the air flow to various types of surface inhomogeneities.

The purpose of this study is to investigate on tideland recalamation project as a part of situation on farm land improvement measures in North Korea. By using satelite image data beyond the national boundaries, it makes possbile to analyze tideland reclamation projects, and owing to the developed software and procedure we can analyze data regardless of difference in data acquistion date. Satellite image data LANDSAT JEARS-1 data are mainly used, and analyzing software ER Mapper, ERDAS , IDRISI are used . Reclamation survey result made by the ministry of unification in 1994 were examined by means of remote sensing using satellite image data. The results are ; Completed and/or partly completed project are 24, 596ha and planned are about 142, 223 ha, 166, 819 ha in total. However, they already reported about 300 thousand ha would be reclamined from the sea in early 1980.

Reclamation coal ash, which is generated as a byproduct at a coal thermal power plant is not recycled but dumped into an ash landfill disposal site. Furthermore, various byproducts and wastes have been proposed for use from the point of reduction in the environmental load. Authors have started research to develope manufacturing technology of concrete mixture design method with large amount of land reclamation coal ash. In this study an optimum mix proportion design for utilizing the reclamation coal ash and containing copper slags as an aggregate for secondary concrete products such as a wave dissipating blocks was successfully developed.

Land was reclaimed at the waterfront in the Pluit area of Jakarta for a 90ha residential-cum-recreational development. The reclamation works involve construction of permanent and temporary dykes, fill placement, soil improvement, dredging of internal canals and marina, and construction of canal revetment. The site lies on 16m to 18m thick soft seabed deposits. Settlement of the reclaimed areas will result as a consequence of consolidation of the soft underlying sediments. In order to reduce post-construction settlement to within acceptable levels, a system of vertical drains and preloading was adopted. This paper describes the use of Fibredrain, a prefabricated vertical drain made of jute and coir fibres developed at the National University of Singapore, in the soil improvement works and a secondary use in the construction of perimeter dykes for the reclamation works. The construction of the perimeter dyke must be carried out in such a way that slope stability is on ensured. Bamboo rafts and bamboo clusters with Fibredrain inserted, and stage construction were employed to improve stability during the dyke formation for the Pantai Mutiara project.

Deserts around the world mostly do not have plants and are ever- expanding their area each year. There is shortage of food and prevalent hunger around the world mostly in the African countries that have desert. The waste water is not properly managed in those places and it causes disease outbreaks. So, the problems of desertification, waste water management and hunger have to be addressed by the world community. This thesis work tries to explore a possibility of reclamation of deserts with regular application of waste water. The results obtained from a four months long test are very encouraging and it can be easily concluded that the deserts can be reclaimed by application of waste water and it will relieve the desert community from the burden of costly treatment of waste water as well. In turn, they will, to some extent, get rid of water borne diseases and the reclaimed land could be used in future to produce more food to feed the hungry community- positively impacting directly to food security of the focused community.

This paper analyzes the current status, characteristics, and problems of coastal reclamation in Korea and suggests effective management approaches. Reclamation is concentrated from the West Sea to the South Sea. In the 1980s and 1990s, most projects were intended for agricultural use, whereas in recent years reclamation for industrial and harbour sites(e.g., ship-building) have been increasing. The continuous onslaught of reclamation and development projects threatens the coastal environment, especially tidal flats and fishing areas, and fishery production has been reduced in some areas. The largest tidal flats have been used for dumping sites of dredged coastal sediments, urban development projects, and industrial complex composition. Thus, it is necessary to assess current policy using top-down approaches after establishing appropriate directions and standards for coastal management. Both short-term development profits and long-term conservation should be considered when attempting to balance development and conservation. In addition, improvements of marine environmental impact assessment and in the legal system are necessary.

There are many slopes generally developed by excavation and cut slope with small steps on massive slopes of roads. Especially these cut slopes which excavating around fault fracture zone need a reinforcement technology in order to ensure safety. In the case of slope excavation, it is difficult to use the existing slope support at fracture zone because of geological characteristics. Especially the factor of safety decreases significantly due to the movement of blocks in bed rocks and the expansion of interspace of discontinuous planes in fractured zones caused by excavation. Thus an efficient reinforcement technique in accordance with geological properties of fracture zones needs to be developed because the existing slope support has a restricted application. Therefore it is necessary to develop the specialized rock bolt technique in order to ensure an efficient factor of safety for anomalous fracture zones in slopes and tunnels. The purpose of this study is to develop newly improved rock bolt to increase a supporting effect of the swellex bolt method used recently as a friction type in fracture zones.
Korea's tidelands policy IS examined and criticized in the paper. Korea's major tidelands in the west coast might disappear within a decade. The anachronistic development IS driven by the political interest group, forming coalition for reclamation and busily fulfilling its own profits under the facade of public good and regional development. But all regions of the world have been gradually scrapping the massive reclamation projects since the 1970's and active movements to reverse the reclamation and restore the nature are on the rise. In 1978, the U.S. Supreme Court decided to suspend the construction of the dam and to protect the snail darter despite that over 100 million dollars had been injected. This court ruling became famous and caused the American public to change their perception about the environment. In the Netherlands, following a prolonged discussion on pros and cons of reclamation, open type seawall was adopted to strike a balance among the available alternatives. Japan's Ministry of Environment was praised for forming the National Wetland Committee in order to designate 20 new Ramsar sites by 2008, with an objective to reach 33 designated Ramsar sites. Away from the large-scale reclamation projects, Korea has to move towards smaller-scale projects focusing on the knowledege intensive and circular economy society that are more in harmony with the environment.
