The depletion of resources and waste disposal caused by the continuous development of industry have emphasized the need to reduce consumption and production, recycle and reuse, and the importance of remanufacturing has increased in recent years. The spindle part of the aging planner miller, which is currently being remanufactured, is one of the factors that has the greatest impact on the performance of the machine tool. When designing the spindle part of the spindle shaft, there are considerations such as the configuration size bearing performance of the main shaft, but the diameter of the main shaft, the dangerous speed bearing, and the arrangement that affect the machining accuracy should be basically considered. As such, various studies have been conducted on the design of machine tool spindle spindles, but research on the reverse engineering of existing aging machine tool spindle spindles is poor. Reverse engineering is designing in the direction of improving performance by extracting specifications from already finished products, and first scanning the reverse engineered object through a 3D scanner, 3D modeling is performed based on the collected data, and then the process of deriving improvement plans by reverberating to improve performance by identifying wear and damage conditions is followed. Therefore, in this study, the purpose of this study is to provide data on reverse engineering by deriving improvement plans through optimal design for the bearing position of the aging planar Miller spindle spindle using central composite programming.

After the 'Guidelines for the preservation of digital heritage' were published by UNESCO, interests in the fabrication of digital cultural heritage have been increasing throughout the world. The present study was intended to fabricate digital cultural heritages for existing cultural properties using the reverse engineering technology and obtain two-dimensional drawings. Jinju Castle Gongbukmun, which is a cultural property, was selected as a study subject and 3D modeling of Jinju Castle Gongbukmun was conducted by implementing 3D scanning and processing the point cloud data. Using the Gongbukmun 3D model (3D-Gongbukmun) made as such, requirements as a digital heritage were reviewed and 2D drawings of Gongbukmun such as front views, ground plans, and side views could be prepared.

In reverse engineering (RE) sustems, the quality of the data aquisition process is crucial to the accuracy of the reverse engineered three dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) model. However, these tasks are predominantly done manually, and little work has been done to improve the efficiency of scanning by determining the minimum number of scans and the optimal scanning directions. In this paper, new scanning and registration methods using tooling balls are developed to assist in determining the optimal parameter for these processes. When the object to scanned has no concavity, attaching path of the object and its bounding rectangle are used for optimal scanning and registration. Then minimum number of tooling balls and their positions are calculated automatically. In the case of concave parts, the scanning plan should include a complete scan of the concave area. With the surface normal vector and the scanning direction, the minimum degree of rotating the part can be calculated. But the maximum rotation should be restricted in order to prevent occlusion of the part. Finally tow sample part ar scanned based on the proposed methods and the results are discussed.

Due to limitation of resources and increasing concerns about environment, reverse logistics has received growing attention in recent years. In this paper, we propose three types of reverse logistics networks based on reuse of returnable containers, materials recycling process and remanufacturing for parts reuse. First, the sender in the re-usable item network supplies containers for the recipient and orders either new containers from external supplier or returnable containers cleaned from the container depot. Second, the recycling center in the proposed recycling network collects either end of life products from customer or faulty goods from manufacturer, collected products are dismantled into materials and materials go into recycling process. Finally, the manufacturer in the proposed remanufacturing network has two alternatives for supplying parts: either ordering the required parts to external supplier or overhauling disassembled parts and bringing them back 'as new' conditions. In this product recovery environment, we build optimal order quantity models to minimize the total logistics costs related to reverse logistics network. The validity of the proposed model is investigated through comprehensive computational experiments.

Reverse engineering involves examining a system or component so as to comprehend its structure, functionality, and operation. Creation of a system model in reverse engineering can serve several purposes: test generation, change impact analysis, and the creation of a new or modified system. When attempting to reverse engineering a system, often the most readily accessible information is the system description, which does not readily lend itself to use in Model Based System Engineering (MBSE). Therefore, it is necessary to be able to transform this description into a diagram, which clearly depicts the behavior of the system as well as the interaction between components. This study demonstrates how sequence diagrams can be extracted from the systems description. Using MBSE software, the sequence diagrams for the Engineered Safety Features Component Control System (ESF-CCS) of the Nuclear Power Plant are created. Sequence diagrams are chosen because they are a means of representing the systems behavior and the interaction between components. In addition, from these diagrams, the system's functional requirements can be elicited. These diagrams then serve as the baseline of the reverse engineering process and multiple system views are subsequently be created from them, thus speeding up the development process. In addition, the use of MBSE ensures that any additional information obtained from auxiliary sources can then be input into the system model, ensuring data consistency.

The reverse engineering (RE) technology can quickly generate 3D point cloud data of an object by capturing the surface of a model using a 3D scanner. In the rapid prototyping (RP) technology, prototypes are rapidly produced from 3D CAD models in a layer-by-layer additive basis. In this paper, a physical human head shape is duplicated using a new RP process, the Transfer-type Variable Lamination Manufacturing process using expandable polystyrene foam sheet (VLM-ST), after the point cloud data of a human head shape measured from 3D SNX scanner are converted to STL file. From the duplicated human head shape, it has been shown that the VLM-ST process in connection with the 3D scanner is a fast and efficient process in that shapes with free surface, such as the human head shape, can be duplicated with ease. Considering the measurement time and the shape duplication time, the use of 3D SNX scanner and the VLM-ST process is expected to reduce the lead-time fur the development of new products in comparison with the other existing RE-RP connected manufacturing systems.
Purpose. The aim of this study was (1) to compare the reverse engineering technique with other existing measurement methods and (2) to analyze the effect of implant angulations and impression coping types on implant impression accuracy with reverse engineering technique. Materials and methods. Three different master models were fabricated and the distance between the two implant center points in parallel master model was measured with different three methods; digital caliper measurement (Group DC), optical measuring (Group OM), and reverse engineering technique (Group RE). The 90 experimental models were fabricated with three types of impression copings for the three different implant angulation and the angular and distance error rate were calculated. One-way ANOVA was used for comparison among the evaluation methods (P < .05). The error rates of experimental groups were analyzed by two-way ANOVA (P < .05). Results. While there was significant difference between Group DC and RE (P < .05), Group OM had no significant difference compared with other groups (P > .05). The standard deviations in reverse engineering were much lower than those of digital caliper and optical measurement. Hybrid groups had no significant difference from the pick-up groups in distance error rates (P > .05). Conclusion. The reverse engineering technique demonstrated its potential as an evaluation technique of 3D accuracy of impression techniques.
Flow in a channel with an obstruction at the entry can be reverse, stagnant or forward depending on the position of the obstruction. These flow phenomena have potential applications in the control of energy and various flows in process engineering. Parameters that affect this flow inside and around the test channel are the gap (g) between the obstruction geometry and the test channel, the Reynolds number (Re) and the length (L) of the test channel. The influence of these parameters on the flow behavior was investigated using a flat plate obstruction at the entry of the channel. A low concentration polyacrylamide solution (0.018% by weight) showing a powerlaw fluid behavior was used as the fluid in this investigation. The flow phenomena were investigated by the velocity measurement and the flow visualization and their results were compared with numerical simulation. These results of low concentration polyacrylamide solution are also compared with the results of water published elsewhere (Kabir et al., 2003). The maximum reverse flow inside the test channel observed was 20% - 30% of the outside test channel velocity at a g/w (gap to width) ratio of 1 for Reynolds numbers of 1000 to 3500. The influence of the test channel length (L) and the Reynolds number (Re) on the velocity ratio ($V_i$/$V_o$: inside velocity/outside velocity in the test channel) are also presented and discussed here.

Plating wastewater containing various heavy metals can be produced by several industries. Specifically, we focused on the removal of copper (Cu2+) and nickel (Ni+) ions from the plating wastewater because all these ions are strictly regulated when discharged into watershed in Korea. The application of both nanofiltration (NF) and reverse osmosis (RO) technologies for the treatment of wastewater containing copper and nickel ions to reduce fresh water consumption and environmental degradation was investigated. In this work, the removal of copper (Cu2+) and nickel (Ni+) ions from synthetic water was studied on pilot scale remove by before using two commercial nanofiltration (NF) and reverse osmosis(RO) spiral-wound membrane modules (NE2521-90 and RE2521-FEN by Toray Chemical). The influence of main operating parameters such as feed concentration on the heavy metals rejection and permeate flux of both membranes, was investigated. Synthetic plating wastewater samples containing copper ($Cu^{2+}$) and nickel ($Ni^{2+}$) ions at various concentrations(1, 20, 100, 400 mg/L) were prepared and subjected to treatment by NF and RO in the pilot plant. The results showed that NF, RO process, with 98% and 99% removal for copper and nickel, respectively, could achieve high removal efficiency of the heavy metals.

In this paper, we built a three-dimensional model by applying reverse engineering techniques on targeting the intake port of 2900cc class diesel engine before that three-dimensional design technique is applied. The performance of the intake port is predicted and analysed using the computational flow analysis. Flow Coefficient and Swirl Ratio have been analyzed for two intake port models. One is the intake port for the diesel engine with plunger-type fuel system, and the other is for the diesel engine with CRDI fuel system. Computational result shows that the Flow Coefficient of the intake port with CRDI fuel system is increased upto 10 percentage compared with that with plunger-type. Also, the intake port with plunger-type has high Swirl Ratio at high valve lift, and the intake port with CRDI fuel system has high Swirl Ratio at relatively low valve lift. It is believed that because of high performance of the fuel injector, the intake port with CRDI fuel system is designed for more air amount and not much swirl flow at high valve lift. However, high swirl flow is required at low valve lift for initial fuel and air mixing. The result of this study may be useful for the re-manufacturing industry of automotive parts.
