A bearing failure in RCS(Reinforced Concrete Column and Steel Beam) system is recognized as one of the distinct joint failure modes for the composite frames. Vertical and transverse reinforcement in addition to concrete are effective for better transfer of vortical forces through concrete bearing. To examine the effect of the vertical bars, tie bars, a U-type detail developed in this study and concrete confinement, local bearing tests were conducted using 22 small-scale concrete block specimens. Test results show that vertical reinforcement and tie bars mainly contribute to the bearing capacity. However larger amounts of tie reinforcement are required than those recommend from ASCE guidelines, to apply the nominal concrete strength as 2 $f_{ck}$ over the bearing area. Cross ties are proved to be highly effective for resisting the vertical forces. Maximum bearing strength can be increased upto 2.5 $f_{ck}$ . An accurate prediction model for bearing strength is proposed for better design of the composite Joint.

Recent trends in the construction of building frame feature the increase use of composite steel concrete members functioning together in what terms of mixed structural systems. One of such systems, RCS(reinforced concrete column and steel beam) system is introduced and closely examined focusing on bearing strength of the composite joint in this paper. The main objective of this study was to develope one of details to increase bearing capacity while bearing failure is one of the two primary modes of failure in RCS system. Local bearing tests with specimens about 1/3 of the actual concrete column size were performed applying uniform load through steel plate with 100$\times$110mm size. Test results show that specimens with the bearing reinforcement detail developed in this study enhanced the bearing strength by 1.71~3.02 compared to concrete cylinder strength.

Recent trends in the construction of long span or tall building frames feature the increase use of composite members that steel and concrete is functioning together in what terms of mixed structural systems. One of such systems, RCS (reinforced concrete column and steel beam) system is introduced and closely examined focusing on bearing strength of the composite joint in this paper. The main objective of this study was to develope detail to increase bearing capacity while bearing failure is one of the two primary modes of failure in RCS system. The results show that specimens with the U-type bearing reinforcement detail developed in this study enhanced the bearing strength by 1.20-1.50. The U-type reinforcement is the effective details to increase joint bearing strength compared to others like vertical reinforcement welded to beam flanges.
The avoidance of enemy's radar detection is very important issue in the modem electronic weapon system. Researchers have studied to minimize reflected signals of radar. In this research, two types of radar absorbing structure (RAS), 'C'-type shell and 'U'-type shell, were fabricated using fiber-reinforced composite materials and their radar cross section (RCS) were evaluated. The absorption layer was composed of glass fiber reinforced epoxy and nano size carbon-black, and the reflection layer was fabricated with carbon fiber reinforced epoxy. During their manufacturing process, undesired thermal deformation (so called spring-back) was observed. In order to reduce spring-back, the bending angle of mold was controlled by a series of experiments. The spring-back of parts fabricated by using compensated mold was predicted by finite element analysis (ANSYS). The RCS of RAS shells were measured by compact range and predicted by physical optics method. The measured RCS data was well matched with the predicted data.

Recent trends in the construction of building frame feature the increase use of composite steel concrete members functioning together in what terms of mixed structural systems. One of such systems, RCS(reinforced concrete column and steel beam) system, is known to make use of type of member in the most efficient manner to maximize the structural and economic benifits. Based on the results, joint behavior and design were described in terms of two primary modes of failure ; joint panel shear and vertical bearing. In test specimen, joint deformation is observed at internal region greater than at external region.

New design concept of Reactor Coolant System (RCS) including a reactor assembly for the SMR is introduced in this work. An exploration of new type of reactor that is advanced from proposed SMRs is performed by using systems engineering approach. In this point of view project structured on three main phases; needs analysis (NA), concept exploration (CE), and concept definition (CD). Main objectives as an output of the CE stage are a small size, low cost, shortening the schedule, and enhancing safety. The SMRs usually have a small size requirement. In order to meet the size requirement and to achieve a productivity, in other words, easiness to manufacture, this paper suggests an integrated PWR design concept through researching predecessors. Although the integrated PWR concept provides many advantages, it has disadvantages that composite of maintenance and a low availability problem. Therefore, this paper comes up with a run-to-fail design concept based on modular design to address the maintenance problem and to maximize the availability of SMRs as well as to be compatible with the overall-SMRs including Barge Mounted(BM)type.

The PVRC(Pressure Vessel Research Council) damping is for the response spectrum analysis of the piping system. In this study, the possibility to apply it to the time history analysis is evaluated to reduce the higher conservatism for the structural integrity. The evaluation was performed for the surge line connecting the pressurizer to the hot-leg, and the whole mode includes the RCS and the building structures with the surge line. The analyses were performed using ANSYS code. The first modal analysis shows the modes of the surge line are isolated from those of the other structures. The composite modal damping was calculated with PVRC damping for the surge line and RG 1.60 damping for the other structures by using ANSYS routines. Of the calculated composite modal damping values, the composite modal damping values related to the modes of the surge line were replaced with the PVRC damping values with respect to its frequencies. With this replacement, the composite modal damping values of the other structures were not changed. Based on this decouple characteristics, the time history analyses for the seismic events with PVRC damping for the surge line were performed. And the results show the resultant loads can be reduced by up to 50%.
This paper, UHF band integrated communication antenna for ship communication is designed as a flat type that can be mounted on the integrated mast among integrated communication antennas such as integrated communication, ship communication, broadcasting, and telephone of the ship. The unified mast mounted antenna is an integrated communication antenna applied to the Navy's KDDX, which is an optimized type of integrated communication antenna including a 'composite slope' structure including operational capability, survivability, and improved operability and maintainability. The existing rotary radar and a plurality of monopole-type communication antennas were changed from an irregularly attached shape to the mast exterior to an integrated mast shape including a flat-type integrated communication antenna. the radar reflection area index (RCS) is significantly lowered and compared to overseas products. The goal is to develop a gain broadband antenna.
The PCS system, which consists of precast concrete column and steel beam, is a kind of composite structural systems. In this paper, experimental study has been conducted to analyze seismic performance of bolted beam-to-column connections for the PCS system. Based on experimental results from the seismic testing of eight interior PCS specimens, it shows that behavior of PCS system is satisfactory to seismic performance criteria of ACI such as strength deterioration, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation capacity except initial stiffness. All of the specimens maintain their strength at large levels of story drift without significant loss of stiffness and show high ductility level for inelastic behavior. The energy dissipation capacity is two times greater than requirement of ACI criterion. But the initial stiffness of all specimens does not satisfy ACI criterion, and this phenomenon is similar to the other composite structural systems such as RCS, CFT system.

In this paper, a multilayer radar absorbing structure was designed using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm, and the characteristics of the multilayer radar absorbing structure were analyzed. It was shown that design values can be derived quickly and accurately by applying PSO to the design of a multilayer radar absorbing structure, and it is also shown that the optimal multilayer radar absorbing structure can be designed especially for an oblique incident. In addition, it was shown that the optimal value that meets the performance requirements can be determined even in a combination of various design parameters. It is presented through a comprehensive flowchart including the equations and detailed descriptions of all variables for each step. From the results of this paper, it is possible to omit complex and many calculations for designing a multilayer radar absorbing structure, and it is possible to use various composite materials. It can be utilized in the design and development of multilayer radar absorbing structures.
