  • The aim of this study was to evaluate shear bond strength (SBS) of bulk-fill resin composites (RCs) to dentin and their micro-leakage. One high-viscosity bulk-fill RC and 2 low-viscosity bulk-fill RCs were compared with 1 conventional RC. 7thgenerationbondingagentswereused. In order to evaluate SBS values, 40 permanent molars were selected and divided into 4 groups. The bulk-fill RCs were applied in 4 mm thickness, whereas the conventional RC was applied in 2 mm thickness. In order to evaluate micro-leakage, class I cavities ($5{\times}2{\times}4mm$) were prepared in 32 permanent molars. The teeth were divided into 4 groups and restored with resin composites in an increment of 4 mm for the bulk-fill RC and in 2 horizontal increments of 2 mm for the conventional RC. The mean SBS value of conventional RC showed no statistically significant difference when compared with those of low-viscosity bulk-fill RCs. However, the mean SBS value of high-viscosity bulk-fill RC was significantly lower than that of conventional RC (p < 0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in micro-leakage between the 4 groups. For SBS and micro-leakage, the use of low-viscosity bulk-fill RCs might help clinicians simplify the procedure.

  • In this study, an optimum design algorithm using efficient reanalysis is proposed for seismic design of Reinforced Concrete (RC) piers. The proposed algorithm for optimization of RC piers is based on efficient reanalysis technique. Considering structural behavior of RC piers, the other approximation technique such as artificial constraint deletion is introduced to increase the efficiency of optimization. The efficiency and robustness of the proposed algorithm including the proposed reanalysis technique is demonstrated by comparing it with a conventional optimization algorithm. A few of design examples are optimized to show the applicability of the proposed algorithm.

  • This study was investigated to evaluate the vasorelaxant effect of Rubus coreanus(RC) extract on contracted rabbit carotid artery and its mechanism. To study the effect of RC extract on contracted rabbit carotid arterial strips, arterial strips with intact or damaged endothelium were used for experiment using organ bath. The pre-contracted arterial strips with norepinephrine(NE) or potassium chloride(KCl) was treated with various concentrations of an extract of RC(0.01, 0.03, 0.1, 0.3 and 1.0 $mg/m{\ell}$). To determine the mechanisms of RC-induced vasorelaxant, RC extract was infused into contracted arterial rings which had been pretreated by indomethacin(IM), tetraethylammonium chloride(TEA), $N{\omega}$-nitro-L-arginine (L-NNA), methylene blue(MB). And calcium chloride(Ca) 1 mM was infused into precontracted arterial ring induced by NE or KCl after treatment of RC extract in $Ca^{2+}$-free krebs solution. Cytotoxic activity of RC extract on human umbilical vein endothelial cell(HUVEC) was measured by MTT assay, and nitric oxide(NO) prodution was measured by Griess reagent. RC extract revealed significant relaxation on NE-induced arterial contraction, but didn't relax on KCl-induced arterial contraction. RC extract also had an effective relaxation to the intact endothelium arterial ring, but not the damaged endothelium arterial ring. Treatment of IM, TEA, L-NNA, MB reduced the relaxation of RC extract. Pretreatment of RC extract inhibited the contraction by influx of extracellular $Ca^{2+}$ in contracted arterial ring induced by NE, but it didn't work the contraction by influx of extracellular $Ca^{2+}$ in contracted arterial ring induced by KCl in $Ca^{2+}$-free krebs solution. RC extract increased nitric oxide production on HUVEC. This study indicated that the relaxation effect of RC extract on contracted rabbit carotid artery is related with NO-cGMP pathway, EDHF, prostacyclin.

  • A 10b 30MS/s pipelined ADC operating under 1V power supply is presented. It utilizes a switched-RC based input sampling circuit and a resistive loop to reset the feedback capacitor in the multiplying digital-to-analog converter (MDAC) for the low-voltage operation. Cascaded switched-RC branches are used to achieve accurate grain of the MDAC for the first stage and separate switched-RC circuits are used in the sub-ADC to suppress the switching noise coupling to the MDAC input The measured differential and integral non-linearities of the prototype ADC fabricated in a 0.13${\mu}m$, CMOS process are less than 0.54LSB and 1.75LSB, respectively. The prototype ADC achieves 54.1dB SNDR and 70.4dB SFDR with 1V supply and 30MHz sampling frequency while consuming 17mW power.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the bone-conserving effects of Rubus coreanus-Cheonggukjang (RC-CGJ) supplemented with more intensified phytochemicals compared to general Cheonggukjang (CGJ) in growing rats. Eighteen rats were divided into 3 treatment groups (Control, CGJ, and RC-CGJ) and were given experimental diets for 9 weeks. All of the rats in this study were fed a AIN-93G-based diet. Both CGJ groups were fed with 33.1% CGJ and RC-CGJ powder, respectively. The results of this study indicate that weight gain, mean food intake, and food efficiency ratio were not significantly different by the experimental diets among all groups. Spine bone mineral density (BMD) and femur BMD were not significantly different by the experimental diets. Spine bone mineral content (BMC) was significantly higher in the RC-CGJ and CGJ groups than in the control group, regardless of CGJ type. The femur BMC of the CGJ supplemented group was significantly higher compared with the control group and the RC-CGJ group. Compared with the control group, spine BMD and femur BMD per weight were markedly increased in the RC-CGJ and CGJ group regardless of CGJ type. Also, spine BMC per weight was significantly higher in the RC-CGJ group than in the CGJ group. However, femur BMC per weight was significantly higher in the CGJ group than in the RC-CGJ group. It can be concluded that RC-CGJ and CGJ supplemented diets have more beneficial effects on spine and femur peak bone mass in growing rats.

  • In this paper, RC snubber circuit design technology for oscillation suppression in half-bridge configuration of cascode gallium nitride (GaN) field effect transistors (FETs) is analyzed. A typical wide band-gap (WBG) device, cascode GaN FET, has excellent high-speed switching characteristics. However, due to such high-speed switching characteristics, a false turn-off problem is caused, and an RC snubber circuit is essential to suppress this. In this paper, the commonly used experimental-based RC snubber design technique and the RC snubber design technique using the root locus method are compared and analyzed. In the general method, continuous circuit changes are required until the oscillation suppression performance requirement is met based on experimental experience . However, in root locus method, the initial value can be set based on the non-oscillation R-C map. To compare the performance of the two aforementioned design methods, a simulation experiment and a switching experiment using an actual double pulse circuit are performed.

  • To search for antioxidative compounds from plant resources, methanol extracts of 45 plant species were investigated using DPPH method. The highest activity was shown in the methanol extract of Acer ginnala($RC_{50}\;:\;15{\mu}g$), followed by Stewartia koreana($RC_{50}\;:\;28{\mu}g$) and Carpinus laxiflora($RC_{50}\;:\;33{\mu}g$). Two antioxidative compounds were isolated from the methanolic extract of Acer ginnala Max and identified as acertannin(2, 6-di-O-galloyl-1, 5-anhydro-D-glucitol) and gallicin (methyl-3, 4, 5-trihydroxybenzoic acid) on the basis of mass spectroscopy, $^1H-\;and\;^{13}C-NMR$ data. The DPPH free radical scavenging activities of acertannin($RC_{50}\;:\;3.5{\mu}g$) and gallicin($RC_{50}\;:\;2.8{\mu}g$) were more effective than those of BHA($RC_{50}\;:\;14{\mu}g$) and ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ ($RC_{50}\;:\;12{\mu}g$).

  • For our survey of insecticidal resistance of Palm thrips (Thrips palmi Karny), we established the discriminating time (DT) and concentration (DC) of nine insecticides, and we conducted a bioassay about seven local populations via leaf-dipping methods. The discriminating times of the recommended concentration (RC) were 24 h at emamectin benzoate EC and spinetoram SC, 48 h at chlorfenapyr EC, 72 h at spinosad SC, cyantraniliprole EC, acetamiprid WP, dinotefuran WG, imidacloprid WP and thiacloprid SC after treatment. The DC estimated the concentration which showed the difference within the mortalities of these local populations. The DCs were emamectin benzoate EC $0.013mg\;L^{-1}$ (RC, $10.8mg\;L^{-1}$), spinetoram SC $0.125mg\;L^{-1}$ (RC, $25.0mg\;L^{-1}$), chlorfenapyr EC $0.25mg\;L^{-1}$ (RC, $50.0mg\;L^{-1}$), spinosad SC $0.083mg\;L^{-1}$ (RC, $50.0mg\;L^{-1}$) and cyantraniliprole EC $5.0mg\;L^{-1}$ (RC, $50.0mg\;L^{-1}$), and DCs of neonicotinoids were their RCs, that is, acetamiprid WP (RC, $40.0mg\;L^{-1}$), dinotefuran WG (RC, $20.0mg\;L^{-1}$), imidacloprid WP(RC, $50.0mg\;L^{-1}$) and thiacloprid SC (RC, $50.0mg\;L^{-1}$). From our investigation into the resistance of the local populations with DT and DC application, the neonicotinoid insecticides have shown a high resistant level for all the local populations, and the other insecticides have demonstrated low or non-resistance. In the use of neonicotinoid insecticides to control Palm thrips, one must take caution. As a result, the establishment of DT and DC in the single dose bioassay method was helpful for surveying the insecticide response dynamics and the development of an insecticide resistance management strategy.
