  • The attaching method of different types of structure and explanation of stress transfer mechanism are at important issue as beam having definitive factor such as the anchorage of RC main bar, the stress transfer of anchorage-end S member, RC member-anchorage, anchorage-end S member in the composite beam of S and RC member. In this study, the structural properties of composite beam according to attaching method of main bar about end RC-middle S beam were investigated in order to use them as fundamental data for the development of composite structure member. Throughout a series of study, it was shown that the proof stress of main bar - flange welding specimen is the highest and there is no difference between the deformation-properties according to attaching method of main bar.

  • The study presents the ductility reinforcement effect of the RC bending member using the CFRP Grid as an experimental result. Experimental variables include a non-reinforced RC bending member (ORI), a bottom reinforced RC bending member (REB), and an RC bending member reinforced at the bottom and side (REBS). The experiment was carried out with four points bending test. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the maximum bending strength increased by 17-20% through reinforcement. In addition, the ductility index calculation results confirmed that the ductility index of REB and REBS increased by 2 and 3 times, respectively, compared to the ORI.

  • The tension stiffening effect is defined as the increase in stiffness in reinforced concrete member due to the stiffness provided by concrete between cracks. If this is disregarded in analysis of reinforced concrete members, especially at the level of service loads, member stiffnesses may be underestimated considerably. This paper presents on the failure behavior and tension stiffening of RC tension test with main variables such as concrete strength, rebar diameter and strength. The tension stiffening was analyzed from the load-displacement relationship by ACI code and the proposed by Collins & Mitchell. In summary, the effect of tension stiffening decrease rapidly as the rebar diameter increase, rebar strength increase, and concrete strength increase. The effect of tension stiffening on RC member is the biggest near the behavior of concrete cracking and decrease as the load close to the breaking point. Thus, the tension stiffening should be considered for the precise analysis near the load of concrete cracking.

  • This paper concentrates on the development of simplified and effective algorithm for optimum reinforced concrete(RC) member design. After constructing the data base of predetermined RC sections which are arranged in the order of increasing resistant capacity. Then, the relationship between the section identification numbers and resistant capacities of sections is estabilished by regression and it can be used to obtain the initial solution(section) which satisfies the design constraints imposed. Assuming that there exists the optimum section near the initially selected one, the direct search is conducted to find the discrete optimum solution. The optimization of the entire structure is accomplished through the individual member optimization.

  • Structural safety evaluation for static strength of thin plate RC member with high strength concrete is conducted in this study. Static strengths were predicted and compared with the experimental values. Predicted values were calculated by the evaluation formula based on the punching shear behavior and the yield line theory which can appear in the plate members. Static load tests were carried out for the specimens with high strength concrete and the test results were compared with the required performance in design. The comparison results show that the specimens with high strength concrete have sufficient structural safety for flexural and punching shear performance required in design. High strength concrete specimens exhibited excellent strength despite their small thickness. The range of concrete strengths applied in this study was about 60 MPa to 100 MPa.

  • The tension stiffening in reinforced concrete member means increase of stiffness caused by the effective tensile stress between cracks and the tension softening behavior of concrete. This paper presents on the tensile behavior and tension stiffening of RC tension members. Direct tension tests were performed with a main experimental variables such as concrete strength, rebar diameter and strength. The tension stiffening was analyzed from the load-displacement relationship and was compared with ACI code, CEB model and the proposed by Collins & Mitchell. The results are as follows : The tension behaviors of RC members were quite different from those of bare bar and were characterized by loading and concrete cracking steps. The effect of tension stiffening decreased rapidly as the rebar diameter and strength increased, and the concrete strength increased. The proposed by Collins & Mitchell described well the experimental results, regardless of rebar types and concrete. But, ACI code and CEB model described a little differently, depending on the types. The effect of tension stiffening in RC member was the biggest near at concrete cracking step and decreased gradually to the bare bar's behavior as loading closed to the breaking point. Thus, tension stiffening in RC members should be taken into account when the load-deflection characteristics of a member are required or a precise analysis near the load of concrete clacking is needed.

  • In this paper, the structural properties of the existing reinforced concrete(RC) piers are surveyed and the major factors influencing the member strength and deformation capacity are identified. Also a seismic evaluation procedure of RC piers is presented. The factors controlling the member strength are the applied axial load, the reinforcement ratio and yield strength of longitudinal rebar for flexural strength, and the transverse reinforcement for shear strength. Member deformation capacity largely depends on transverse reinforcement ratio and anchor detail, and splice location of longitudinal reinforcement. The above structural detail should be investigated for the detail seismic evaluation of RC piers. The most of existing RC piers have inadequate transverse reinforcement anchor details and the splices of longitudinal reinforcement in the pier bottom where plastic hinges are formed after yielding. Therefore the deformation capacity is not enough for the ductile flexural behavior of the RC piers. The presented evaluation procedure can be used for the rational decisions as to seismic retrofitting of the existing RC piers.

  • Steel corrosion is a very significant problem both to durability and structural safety since reinforcement has to support loads in tensile region in RC(Reinforced Concrete) member. In the paper, newly invented FRP Hybrid Bar and normal steel are embedded in RC beam member, and ICM (Impressed Current Method) is adopted for corrosion acceleration. Utilizing the previous theory of Faraday's Law, corrosion amount is calculated and flexural tests are performed for RC beam with FRP Hybrid Bar and steel, respectively. Corrosion amount level of 4.9~7.8% is measured in normal RC member and the related reduction of flexural capacity is measured to be -25.4~-50.8%, however there are no significant reduction of flexural capacity and corrosion initiation in RC samples with FRP Hybrid Bar due to high resistance of epoxy-coated steel to corrosion initiation. In the accelerated corrosion test, excellent performance of anti-corrosion and bonding with concrete are evaluated but durability evaluation through long-term submerged test is required for actual utilization.

  • The development of Reinforced Concrete member design modules is necessary for user to design structures easily. The purpose of this paper is to be available for a integrated system used structure design. This module is linked with central database for the benefit of minimizing time of design and user's efforts. In order to minimize memory space, all of data is stored in central database. Member design modules applied Object-Oriented concepts are possible to be reusible, flexible for member functions in classes. This modules can be operated both independent member design modules and a part of integrated system. Sooner or later, this modules will be related to member grouping modules by data.
