  • PCT (Power Cable Tunnel) and UT (Utility Tunnel), which are non-transport underground infrastructures, are mostly RC (Reinforced Concrete) structures, and their durability decreases due to the deterioration caused by carbonation over time. In particular, since the rate of carbonation varies by use and region, a predictive model based on actual carbonation data is required for individual maintenance. In this study, a carbonation prediction model was developed for non-transport underground infrastructures, such as PCT and UT. A carbonation prediction model was developed using multiple regression analysis and deep neural network techniques based on the actual data obtained from a safety inspection. The structures, region, measurement location, construction method, measurement member, and concrete strength were selected as independent variables to determine the dependent variable carbonation rate coefficient in multiple regression analysis. The adjusted coefficient of determination (Ra2) of the multiple regression model was found to be 0.67. The coefficient of determination (R2) of the model for predicting the carbonation of non-transport underground infrastructures using a deep neural network was 0.82, which was superior to the comparative prediction model. These results are expected to help determine the optimal timing for repair on carbonation and preventive maintenance methodology for PCT and UT.

  • A cross section in RC flexural members must be designed to satisfy flexural strength and ductility requirements simultaneously. In design provisions, ductile behavior is ensured by a sufficient reinforcement ratio or depth of the neutral axis. If the reinforcement ratio is less than the balanced reinforcement ratio, ductile behavior is secured, and this value is theoretically the maximum reinforcement ratio. But for a cross section with less steel, brittle failure can occur regardless of ductile behavior because of unqualifying a cracking moment. Recently, designs with a minimum steel ratio have been increasing along with the use of high-strength material, so in design provisions, a minimum amount of reinforcement is suggested. In the KCI(2012) standard, a minimum amount of reinforcement was suggested in terms of strength of steel and concrete. But in the revised KCI(2017) standard, a minimum amount of reinforcement was suggested by a relationship between the design flexural strength and cracking moment indirectly. This code can reflect the effect of cover thickness, but a material model must be defined. Therefore, the minimum amount of reinforcement in KCI(2012) and KCI(2017) was examined, and a rational review method was studied by parametric analysis.

  • Silicon carbide is considered to be a potentially useful material for high-temperature electronic devices, as its large energy band gap and the p-type and/or n-type conduction can be controlled by impurity doping. Particularly, electric conductivity of porous n-type SiC semiconductors fabricated from ${\beta}-SiC$ powder at $2000^{\circ}C$ in $N_2$ atmosphere was comparable to or even larger than the reported values of SiC single crystals in the temperature region of $800^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$, while thermal conductivity was kept as low as 1/10 to 1/30 of that for a dense SiC ceramics. In this work, for the purpose of decreasing sintering temperature, it was attempted to fabricate porous reaction-sintered bodies at low temperatures ($1400-1600^{\circ}C$) by thermal decomposition of polycarbosilane (PCS) impregnated in n-type ${\beta}-SiC$ powder. The repetition of the impregnation and sintering process ($N_2$ atmosphere, $1600^{\circ}C$, 3h) resulted in only a slight increase in the relative density but in a great improvement in the Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity. However the power factor which reflects the thermoelectric conversion efficiency of the present work is 1 to 2 orders of magnitude lower than that of the porous SiC semiconductors fabricated by conventional sintering at high temperature, it can be stated that thermoelectric properties of SiC semiconductors fabricated by the present reaction-sintering process could be further improved by precise control of microstructure and carrier density.

  • In case of the cracks in concrete, the penetration of deterioration ions such as chloride ions in to cracks is accelerated. According to the penetration of chloride ions, structural and durability problems to RC(Reinforced Concrete) structures are caused. In this study, the accelerated chloride diffusion coefficient which is in steady state is evaluated for 2 year aged normal and high strength FA(Fly Ash) concrete, after a range of crack depths are induced up to 1.0 mm in 56 aged day. Considering crack effect by linear regression analysis, high strength concrete has slightly less increasing ratio of diffusion coefficient by crack than normal strength concrete, and diffusion coefficient increases non-linearly as crack width is increased. Also, In two types of concrete, crack effect decrease as the curing period increase. In the case of quantifying crack and curing effect by using exponential function form, the coefficients of determination are higher than those of linear regression analysis. Under steady state, it is thought that there is not a high correlation between the crack effect and the curing effect, and considering the two independent effects, it is believed that reasonable prediction equation for diffusion of concrete with crack can be proposed.

  • The objective of this study is to propose the drainage system that has been improved the workability, waterproofing and drainage performance to treat the leakage from the cement concrete structures in underground. It is improved that the pipe for conveying ground leak in the existing drainage system had the problem in workability and waterproof. The drainage systems with the improved pipe for conveying ground leak were constructed in conventional concrete lining tunnels to evaluate the workability, waterproofing and drainage. The waterproof and the drainage performance of the drainage system was evaluated by injecting 1,000 ml of red water in the back of the drainage system at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 9 weeks, 11 weeks, 14 weeks, 17 weeks and 23 weeks. During 6 months of field performance test, the average daily temperature of the tunnel site was measured from $-12.4^{\circ}C$ to $19.7^{\circ}C$. The daily minimum temperature was $-17.2^{\circ}C$ and the daily maximum temperature was $26.7^{\circ}C$. There was no problem in waterproof and drainage performance on the pipe for conveying ground leak and the drainage system during 6 months for field performance test. It is concluded that the improved drainage system can be applied to various cement concrete underground structures where leakage occurs, and has little seasonal effect.

  • With the aging of the population and the slowdown of the job market, elderly workers make up a large portion of the construction workforce. Also, due to the nature of the construction industry, where outdoor work is frequent, the weather has a more sensitive impact on elderly workers than on younger ones. The study aims to analyze the degree of weather risks exposed to elderly workers in the construction industry using the measure of work loss days. To that end, construction accidents that affected 28,514 elderly workers in seven cities from 2012 to 2016 (a total of 12,789 days) were analyzed to calculate work loss days per different weather factors. The results show that the elderly workers were seriously affected when the temperature was between $-12^{\circ}C$ and $-10^{\circ}C$, humidity between 55% and 60%, precipitation between 128mm and 181mm, and wind speed between 5.5m/s and 6.5m/s, with the highest work loss days. The combined effects between the weather factors were also analyzed to identify the conditiosn that leaded to high work loss days of elderly workers. This study contributes to effective safety management and pleasant working environment between weather factors and shedding light on the relationship between weather factors and work loss days of elderly workers.

  • This paper deals with ground clutter model for FOD (foreign object debris) surveillance FMCW (frequency modulated continuous waveform) radar. In the FOD surveillance radar, it has received not only the signals reflected by FOD, but also the clutters of the surface of the runway and the grassland simultaneously. However, to detect the FOD, the clutter rejection algorithm is necessary because the RCS (radar cross section) of FOD is nearly same to RCS of the grassland. In addition, it is difficult to apply the MTI (moving target indicator) algorithm as the clutter rejection algorithm because both the FOD and the clutter coexist stationarily. Hence, to remove the stationary clutter, it is crucial to accurately generate clutter map considering the surface of road. In this paper, in order to generate the clutter map, the respective beat signal at every range bin is generated in the case of only the surface without FOD, and then the beat signal accumulated 100 times. And also, Weibull distribution is applied to the RCS value to take the scattering distribution of clutter into consideration. The simulation results show that FOD can be well detected by applying the generated clutter map to the FOD FMCW radar.

  • In general, a reinforced concrete slabs are known to have a high fire resistance performance due to thermal properties of concrete materials. However, according to previous research, the thermal behavior of voided slabs is reported to be different from that of conventional RC solid slabs, and the differences seem to be caused by the air layer formed inside the voided slab. Therefore, it is difficult to estimate the temperature distribution of the voided slab under fire by using the existing methods that do not take into account the air layer inside the voided slab. In this study, a numerical analysis model was proposed to estimate the temperature distribution of voided slabs under fire, and evaluated. Heat transfer of slabs under fire is generally caused by conduction, convection and radiation, and time-dependent temperature changes of slab can be determined considering these phenomena. This study proposed a numerical method to estimate the temperature distribution of voided slabs under fire based on a finite difference method in which a cross-section of the slab is divided into a number of layers. This method is also developed to allow consideration of heat transfer through convection and radiation in air layer inside of slabs. In addition, the proposed model was also validated by comparison with the experimental results, and the results showed that the proposed model appropriately predicts the temperature distribution of voided slabs under fire.

  • Multi-function radar(MFR) is a system that uses various functions such as detection, tracking, and classification. To operate the functions in real-time, the detection stage in MFR usually uses radar signals for short measurement time. We can utilize several conventional detectors in the MFR system to detect low radar cross section maritime targets in the sea-clutter; however, the detectors, which have been developed to be effective for radar signals measured for a longer time, may be inappropriate for MFR. In this study, we proposed a modelling technique of sea-clutter short measurement time. We combined the modeled sea-clutter signal with the maritime-target signal, which was obtained by the numerical analysis method. Using this combined model, we exploited four independent detectors and analyzed the detection performances.

  • Background: Ginsenosides are not only the principal bioactive components but also the important indexes to the quality assessment of Panax ginseng Meyer. Their contents in cultivated ginseng vary with the growth environment and age. The present study aimed at evaluating the significant difference between 36 cultivated ginseng of different cultivation areas and ages based on the simultaneously determined contents of 14 ginsenosides. Methods: A high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS) method was developed and used in the multiple reaction-monitoring (MRM) mode (HPLC-MRM/MS) for the quantitative analysis of ginsenosides. Multivariate statistical analysis, such as principal component analysis and partial least squares-discriminant analysis, was applied to discriminate ginseng samples of various cultivation areas and ages and to discover the differentially accumulated ginsenoside markers. Results: The developed HPLC-MRM/MS method was validated to be precise, accurate, stable, sensitive, and repeatable for the simultaneous determination of 14 ginsenosides. It was found that the 3- and 5-yr-old ginseng samples were differentiated distinctly by all means of multivariate statistical analysis, whereas the 4-yr-old samples exhibited similarity to either 3- or 5-yr-old samples in the contents of ginsenosides. Among the 14 detected ginsenosides, Rg1, Rb1, Rb2, Rc, 20(S)-Rf, 20(S)-Rh1, and Rb3 were identified as potential markers for the differentiation of cultivation ages. In addition, the 5-yr-old samples were able to be classified in cultivation area based on the contents of ginsenosides, whereas the 3- and 4-yr-old samples showed little differences in cultivation area. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the HPLC-MRM/MS method combined with multivariate statistical analysis provides deep insight into the accumulation characteristics of ginsenosides and could be used to differentiate ginseng that are cultivated in different areas and ages.
