Rapid Prototyping of Aero-engine Complex Control Method

  • This paper presents an approach of complex control method(CCM) real-time simulation and rapid prototyping for aero-engine control system and describes its principle and realization in detail. This approach is mainly based on MATLAB/RTW for rapid prototyping from system modeling to embedded implementation. According to the simulation results between automatic code and manual code for an aeroengine multi-variable control method, it shows that this approach is feasible and effective, and not only decreases development cycle but also improves the reliability and universality. So a series of problems can be resolved during the simulation stage and rapid application to prototype testing.

  • An improving example for traditional rapid mix system was studied in the base of mechanisms of alum coagulation. Local status of the major water treatment plants was also investigated and evaluated for upgrading these plants. A new design and operating criterium for rapid mix system was proposed to velocity gradient, G of $1,000-1,500sec^{-1}$ and detention time, t of 1 sec from the results of experiments and literature reviews. Comparing the present rapid mix system to this criterium, apparent difference existed between them. In this study, for improving Seongnam water treatment plant, a design criterium of velocity gradient, and detention time was set to $1,100sec^{-1}$, 1 sec, respectively. A new rapid mix system adopted the nozzle injection countcurrently cross the inlet pipe to the whole area. The injection velocity was 17m/s, nozzle diameter was 1.0mm, and number of nozzle was 70. The new modified system without running present four 75 HP agitators was able to improve water quality(based on sedimentation effluent) by 15-35% and to reduce electrical energy by 98%.

  • In this paper we deal with a design of the evaluation system to assess the vehicle operational control algorithm for Personal Rapid Transit(PRT) system. PRT system is different from the conventional rail traffic system in such that the station is off-line so as to guarantee a very short headway. In this study we propose an evaluation system to assess the performance of the proposed vehicle control algorithm. The evaluation system is composed of virtual vehicles, central control system, virtual wayside facilities, monitoring equipments. The virtual vehicles are made up by the laptop computers and the central control system employs Power PC process of Motorola Inc. The wayside facilities are implemented by employing the PXI module of the National Instruments Corporation. In order to test the proposed evaluation system a test algorithm is used, which has been simulated in the combined simulation system between Labview Simulation Interface Toolkit and Matlab/Simulink.

  • Rapid Prototyping (RP) is a technology that produces prototype parts from 3D computer aided design model data without intermediate processing technology rapidly. CAD model data are created from 3D object digitizing systems but presented just as 2D data when they are printed as a hard copy or displayed on a monitor. However, Rapid Prototyping Technology fabricates 3D objects the same that CAD data because it transforms designed 3D CAD data into 2D cross sectional data, and manufactures layer by layer deposition sequentially. But most of all the small and medium scale companies which produce a toothbrush, a toy and such like provisions are in difficult situations to buy RP system because it is very expensive. In this paper, we propose a 3D control system adopting open source programs for implementing Rapid Prototyping Technology in order that RP system can be purchase at a moderate price.

  • In order to reduce the lead-time and cost, many useful methods have been applied to rapid prototyping (RP) in recent years. But cutting process is still considered as one of the effective RP methods that have been developed and currently available in the industry. It also offers practical advantages in aspects of precision and versatility. However, traditional 3-axis NC machining has some inherent limitations such as the restriction of tool accessibility and the complex setup. In this work, a new rapid prototyping system with high speed 5-axis machining of plastics has been developed to overcome those limitations. And cutting experiments were conducted to determine the design factors of the system and the cutting conditions of plastics. The architecture of developed system is described in detail and the successful application examples are presented.

  • Recently, with a great interest in micromachine, it is more and more important to promote the way of manufacturing micromachine. The silicon process or the LIGA process was the main method to manufacture micromachine in the past. But, these manufacturing method was 2.5-dimensinal, there was the limit in manufacturing perfect 3-dimensional structure micromachine. In this study, we developed the rapid prototyping system for micromachining and tested its property. We also realized .mu. m-order manu- facturing and 3-dimensional structure processing. The results showed the possibility of micromachining with the rapid prototyping system.

  • PURPOSES: This study is to suggest the improvement for bus rapid transit system in Seoul METHODS: The maintenance cost for bus lane damages and plastic deformations are increased by bus passing speed, heavy bus weight, and climate change (localized torrential downpour, subtropical climate) and the accident risk has been increased. RESULTS: Recent analysis of pavement damage indicates that bus lane damage caused by heavy weight is overwhelming and it is urgent to prepare countermeasures. CONCLUSIONS : Pavement data of bus rapid transit system, bus transit numbers and pavement damage elements were analyzed. By analyzing pavement maintenance, design and construction, the countermeasures for the improvement of bus lane pavement and effective maintenance were suggested.

A Computer Simulator to Assess the Operational Scenarios for the Personal Rapid Transit Systems

  • The personal rapid transit (PRT) system is a small scale transportation system that employs a novel concept to solve the traffic congestion problem in the city area. The PRT system is a driverless on-demand system that a passenger calls a vehicle rather than waits for the vehicle. Therefore, one of the most important issues in the PRT system is how to control the vehicle with the satisfaction of the basic concept of the PRT system. In this paper a computer simulator is introduced to evaluate the vehicle. operational control algorithm of the PRT system. The. computer simulator has the commercial embedded processor boards that operate in the real time operating system and pre-designed vehicle control algorithm is coded into the processor boards. The experimental results present the effectiveness of the proposed evaluation apparatus.

A Study on Construction of Metro Rapid Transit Network in Daegu Area (철도와 지역발전 - 대구권 광역전철망 구상과 지역발전 효과)

  • Construction of metro transportation infra is a large-scale project requiring tremendous financial resources. This study suggests operation method to use for rapid transit line existing infra such as Gyeongbu line and spare line capacity following second phase KTX construction. Reviewing various constraints of metro rapid transit operation, we found that the conditions for metro rapid transit operation are already satisfied in Daegu area, just like the case of Gyeongbu line in Seoul Metro area. Also, the evaluation of the economic feasibility of metro rapid transit operation in Daegu area shows that B/C is about 2.4, which implies that there is sufficient economic feasibility. According to the result of sensitivity analysis, the project is economically feasible unless the passenger demand decreases 15% and construction costs increases more than 70%. B/C is evaluated large because the utilization of already exiting infra lowers the initial cost. As one of mass transportation system of large capacity, metro rapid transit can generate significant spillover effect: It will strengthen competitiveness of metro area by connecting cities within the area and by extending one-day life zone of the area, to say nothing of the benefit of improving traffic condition. The construction of metro rapid transit network is necessary for the mass transportation system of Yeongnam area as well as Daegu area, and it may work as a starting point for uniting Daegu and Gyeongbuk and strengthening regional competitiveness.
