  • train radio system used for shinkansen in japan has been 18 years since it was opened in 1982 and grown old. Analogue train radio is short of the number of lines and can't cope with the needs for the new high speed data transmission by 1,200 bps. The construction to renew the Tohoku - Joethu shinkansen train radio system(shinkansen train radio system) with digital method started from 2000 in JREast Digital method makes it possible to improve the quality of radio transmission, reliability of the network and every device, the speed and capacity of transmission and to be more efficient maintenance by introducing the latest IT technology. This paper will consider synchronization between base station. diversity method. software receiver, mobile high speed digital radio system, high reliability LAN introduced as technologies supporting these.

  • The energy constraint is still a common issue for the practical application of wireless sensors, since they are usually powered by batteries which limit their lifetime. In this paper, a practical compound energy efficiency strategy is proposed and realized in the implementation of a real time wireless sensor platform. The platform is intended for wireless structural monitoring applications and consists of three parts, wireless sensing unit, base station and data acquisition and configuration software running in a computer within the Matlab environment. The high energy efficiency of the wireless sensor platform is achieved by a proposed adaptive radio transmission power control algorithm, and some straightforward methods, including adopting low power ICs and high efficient power management circuits, low duty cycle radio polling and switching off radio between two adjacent data packets' transmission. The adaptive transmission power control algorithm is based on the statistical average of the path loss estimations using a moving average filter. The algorithm is implemented in the wireless node and relies on the received signal strength feedback piggybacked in the ACK packet from the base station node to estimate the path loss. Therefore, it does not need any control packet overheads. Several experiments are carried out to investigate the link quality of radio channels, validate and evaluate the proposed adaptive transmission power control algorithm, including static and dynamic experiments.

  • Interference effects of ultra-wideband devices using the frequency band from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz on wireless broadband are evaluated. The ultra-wideband emission power spectral density that would be necessary to protect a wireless broadband station is considered. Also, an analytic scheme based on a system level simulation of a WiBro system is proposed.

  • We consider resource allocation in femto-cell networks to maximize the throughput while minimizing interference to macro-users nearby. This can be achieved by allocating spectrum resource in a cognitive radio way. The proposed resource allocation is performed in two steps; spectrum sensing and resource scheduling. The femto base station detects idle frequency assignments (FAs) free from the occupation by macro-users and then allocates sub-channels in an idle FA to femto-users, effectively managing the interference problem. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified by computer simulations.

  • In this paper, we propose an early spectrum sensing(ESS) as an advance preparation for radio-access trial, which enables multi-mode terminals to access the most appropriate radio-access system in a cloud-conceptual base station system where multiple radio access technologies(RATs) coexist. Prior to a random access to one of RATs, a multi-mode terminal conducts a spectrum sensing over entire frequency bands of whole RATs, then select the RAT with the lowest sensing power, that is likely to have the most available spectrum. Thus, an access failure caused by that the selected RAT has no available radio spectrum could be avoidable in advance. In computer simulation, we consider as various RATs as possible. First, circuit and packet systems are taken into consideration. In addition, the packet systems are classified according to the feasibility of carrier aggregation(CA). In case of terminal, three modes are considered with circuit-only, packet-only, and multi-mode. Subsequently, packet traffic is classified into real-time and non-real-time traffic with three different tolerable delay levels. The simulation includes a call process starting with a call generation and ending up with a resource allocation reflecting individual user's QoS requirements and evaluates the proposed scheme in terms of the successful access probability, system access time, system balancing factor and packet loss probability.

  • As the number of base stations for mobile communication services rapidly grows with the development of mobile communications and the increase of radio-use devices, there are hazardous concerns raised on the possible health effects of EMF(Electro-magnetic fields) radiated from base station antennas. Since 2007, KCA(Korea Communications Agency) has been measuring the EMF on base station defined by Radio Act. This paper was studied to provide objective and accurate information that relieved anxiety of people by analyzing the measurement results on EMF strength. Also, we suggest to effectiveness and improvement of EMF measurement institution by analyzing measurement results since it was introduced on June 2007.

  • Wireline relay stations(RS's) are connected to cellular base stations(BS's) via radio-over-fiber(RoF) to enhance system capacity and to reduce shadow areas. Unlike wireless multi-hop systems, BS-to-RS signaling is transmitted out-of-band, thus reducing the effect of interference caused by frequency reuse. In this paper, antenna arrays used in addition to the wireline RS's are considered to evaluate the transmission capacity gain and performance variations according to the may structures. In particular, RS locations to maximize the gain, may distribution patterns for a given number of antenna elements, performance enhancement for a varying number of elements are experimentally determined to suggest a proper utilization of antenna ways in conjunction with wireline RS's.

  • This paper introduces a radio-wave interference assessment of wind turbines that were planned to be installed at Homi-Cape in Pohang region where wind resource has been evaluated worthwhile developing a wind farm. In that area, AM radio station with two antennas and a harbor radar facility are located so that radio-wave coupling is inevitable if the wind farm is designed without considering radio-wave environmental impact. A low-frequency analysis using MoM (Method of Moment) is used to examine interference effect caused by wind turbines and an optimal layout minimizes coupling effect is presented.

  • This paper evaluates the performance of an optic link in a frequency conversion based fiber-radio system. The proposed link structure simplifies a BS(base station) via making the MMW(millimeter wave) optical pilot tone generated in the CS(control station) be used in the uplink as well as in the downlink. To acquire the optical pilot tone, an EOM(electro-optic modulator) in the CS is biased in three different ways, i.e., MAB(maximum bias), MIB(minimum bias), QB(quadrature bias). We, depending on the biasing of the EOM, evaluate the link performances in two cases; one is for constant laser source power and the other for constant received DC optical power at a PD(photo detector). Based on the simulation results on the downlink CNR and the uplink SFDR(spurious free dynamic range), we finally deduce the effective EOM biasing for each case.

  • High altitude platform station(HAPS) is being developed actively in some countries as well as Korea. At the same time Resolution 734 was adopted in WRC-2000 to study the sharing of HAPS into the existing fixed services in the bands above 3GHz. As one of the sharing studies, interferences between HAPS and radio-relay stations should be analyzed by dividing into two cases, the one is the interference effects of HAPS system into radio-relay stations and on the contrary, the other that of radio-relay stations into HAPS system. Since the former case had been already studied, only the latter case will be focused on this paper. Analysis result shows that the coordination distance must be needed above 100 km when the trendline of radio-relay is located vertical to HAPS service area and the transmitting power is -50 dBW/MHz.
