  • In this paper we investigate the conditions for derivations under which the Singer-Wermer theorem is true for noncommutative Banach algebra A such that either [[D(x),xD(x)] ${\in}$ rad(A) for all $x{\in}$A or $D(x)^2$x+xD(x))$^2$${\in}$rad(A) for all $x{\in}$A, where rad(A) is the Jacobson radical of A, then $D(A){\subseteq}$rad(A).

  • In radiotherapy, accurate patient positioning and set up are important factor that treatment can influence success. In generally, the 3-laser system is used when the patient set up. But today the body surface scanning system(C-Rad system) is trying to use. Compare and evaluate the C-Rad system and the 3-laser system to check availability. Head and neck that are no movement of internal organs and easy to apply fixation device are limited. Alderson Rando anthropomorphic phantom and 10 patients who have lesions of head and neck are targeted. C-RAD system's setup error mean and standard deviation are the X axis($0.55{\pm}0.51mm$), Y axis($-0.2mm{\pm}0.523mm$), Z axis($-0.85{\pm}0.587mm$) in the phantom study, and in the patient study X axis($-0.05{\pm}0.621mm$), Y axis($0.075{\pm}0.755mm$) Z axis($-1.025{\pm}0.617mm$). So C-RAD system is better than 3-laser system mostly, but C-RAD system's error rate is a little worse than 3-laser system in the Z axis. When radiation treatment of head and neck, body surface contour scanning system contribute to correct positioning and minimize the set up error.

  • Homologous recombination (HR) repair has a crucial role to play in the prevention of chromosomal instability, and it is clear that defects in some HR repair genes are associated with many cancers. To evaluate the potential effect of some HR repair gene polymorphisms with differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC), we assessed Rad51 (135G>C), Rad52 (2259C>T), XRCC2 (R188H) and XRCC3 (T241M) polymorphisms in Iranian DTC patients and cancer-free controls. In addition, haplotype analysis and gene combination assessment were carried out. Genotyping of Rad51 (135G>C), Rad52 (2259C>T) and XRCC3 (T241M) polymorphisms was determined by PCR-RFLP and PCR-HRM analysis was carried out to evaluate XRCC2 (R188H). Separately, Rad51, Rad52 and XRCC2 polymorphisms were not shown to be more significant in patients when compared to controls in crude, sex-adjusted and age-adjusted form. However, results indicated a significant difference in XRCC3 genotypes for patients when compared to controls (p value: 0.035). The GCTG haplotype demonstrated a significant difference (p value: 0.047). When compared to the wild type, the combined variant form of Rad52/XRCC2/XRCC3 revealed an elevated risk of DTC (p value: 0.007). It is recommended that Rad52 2259C>T, XRCC2 R188H and XRCC3 T241M polymorphisms should be simultaneously considered as contributing to a polygenic risk of differentiated thyroid carcinoma.

  • RAD6 in yeast mediates postreplication DNA repair and is responsible for DNA-damage induced mutations. RAD6 encodes ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme that is well conserved among eukaryotic organisms. However, the molecular targets and consequences of their ubiquitination by Rad6 have remained elusive. In Aspergillus nidulans, a RAD6 homolog has been isolated and shown to be an allele of uvs). We screened a CDNA library to isolate UVSJ-interacting proteins by the yeast two-hybrid system. JIPA was identified as an interactor of UVSJ. Their interaction was confirmed in vitro by a GST-pull down assay. JIPA was also able to interact with mutant UVSJ proteins, UVSJl and the active site cysteine mutant UVSJ-C88A. The N- and the C-terminal regions of UVSJ required for the interaction with UVSH, a RAD18 homolog of yeast which physically interacts with Rad6, were not necessary for the JIPA and UVSJ interactions. About 1.4 kb jipA transcript was detected in Northern analysis and its amount was not significantly increased in response to DNA-damaging agents. A genomic DNA clone of the jipA gene was isolated from a chromosome I specific genomic library by PCR-sib selection. Sequence determination of genomic and cDNA of jipA revealed an ORF of 893 bp interrupted by 2 introns, encoding a putative polypeptide of 262 amino acids. JIPA has 33% amino acid sequence identity to TIP41 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae which negatively regulates the TOR signaling pathway.

  • For any S-flat module RM(which will be called endoflat) with a commutaitve ring R with identity, where S is the endomorphism ring RM, the fact that every epimorphism is an automorphism has been proved and the Jacobson Radical Rad(S) of S is described as follow; Rad(S) = { f$\in$S|Imf=Mf is small in M} = {f$\in$S|Imf $\leq$Rad(M)}. Additionally for any quasi-injective endo-flat module RM, the fact that every monomorphism is an automorphism has been proved and the Jacobson Radical Rad(S) for any quasi-injective endo-flat module has been studied too. Also some equivalent conditions for the semi-primitivity of any faithful endo-flat module RM with the open Jacobson Radical Rad(M) and those for the semi-simplicity of any faithful endo-flat quasi-injective module RM with the closed Socle Soc(M) have been studied.

  • Rapid apple decline (RAD) is a complex phenomenon affecting cultivated apple trees and particularly dwarf rootstocks on grafted young apple trees. Since its first appearance in the United States, RAD has been reported worldwide, for example in Canada, South America, Africa, and Asia. The phenomenon has also been observed in apple orchards in Korea, and it presented similar symptoms regardless of apple cultivar and cultivation period. Most previous reports have suggested that RAD may be associated with multiple factors, including plant pathogenic infections, abiotic stresses, environmental conditions, and the susceptibility of trees to cold injury during winter. However, RAD was observed to be more severe and affect more frequently apple trees on the Malling series dwarf rootstock. In this study, we reviewed the current status of RAD worldwide and surveyed biotic and abiotic factors that are potentially closely related to it in Korea.

  • The aim of this study is to identify hRad21-binding sites in human chromosome, the core component of cohesin complex that held sister chromatids together. After chromatin immunoprecipitation with an hRad21 antibody, it was cloned the recovered DNA and sequenced 30 independent clones. Among them, 20 clones (67%) contained repetitive elements including short interspersed transposable elements (SINE or Alu elements), long terminal repeat (LTR) and long interspersed transposable elements (LINE), fourteen of these twenty (70%) repeats clones had Alu elements, which could be categorized as the old and the young Alu Subfamily, eleven of the fourteen (73%) Alu elements belonged to the old Alu Subfamily, and only three Alu elements were categorized as young Alu subfamily. There is no CpG island within these selected clones. Association of hRad21 with Alu was confirmed by chromatin immunoprecipitation-PCR using conserved Alu primers. The primers were designed in the flanking region of Alu, and the specific Alu element was shown in the selected clone. From these experiments, it was demonstrated that hRad21 could bind to SINE, LTRs, and LINE as well as Alu.

  • A defect in uvsC of Aspergillus nidulans caused high methyl methansulfonate (MMS)-sensitivity, hyporecombination, and a lack of UV induced mutation. The uvsC gene of Aspergillus nidulans shares a sequence similarity with the RAD51 gene of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In this study, in vitro and in vivo tests were conducted in order to determine whether or not the UVSC protein had functional similarities to RAD51, the recombination enzyme in yeast. The purified recombinant UVSC protein, following expression in Escherichia coli, showed binding activity to single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), when both ATP and magnesium are present. In addition, ATPase activity was also demonstrated and its activity was stimulated in the presence of ssDNA. The UVSC protein that was expressed under the ADH promoter in S. cerevisiae suppressed in part the sensitivity to MMS of the rad51 null mutant. Similarly, when the uvsC cDNA was expressed from the nmt promoter, the MMS sensitivity of the rhp51 null mutant of Schizosaccharomyces pombe was partially complemented. These results indicate that the A. nidulans UVSC protein is a functional homologue of the RAD51 protein.

  • In order to obtain spherical fine powder, we have developed a new method of high-pressure water atomization system using swirl water jet with the swirl angle $(\omega)$. The effect of nozzle apex angle $(\theta)$ upon the morphology of atomized powders was investigated. Molten copper was atomized by this method, with $\omega=0.2$ rad (swirl water jet) and $\omega=0$ rad (conical water jet). It was found that the median diameter $(D_{50})$ of atomized powders decreased with decreasing $(\theta)$ down to 0.35 rad in each $\omega$, but under ${\theta}<\;0.35$ rad, $D_{50}$ increased abruptly with decreasing $\theta$ for $\omega=0$ rad, while it was still decreased with decreasing $(\theta)$ for $\omega=0.2$ rad.

  • Development of supervoltage treatment machine may minimize skin reaction by skin-sparing effect, but skin damage is still one of "the dose limiting factor" in radiation therapy. In spite of these importance, systemic histopathologic studies of skin in similar conditions which used in clinical treatment has not been performed so far. 60mice were irradiated with conventional fraction ($200{\times}5/wk$) and whole abdominal field ($2{\times}3cm$, from symphysis pubis to xyphoid process). Used machine was 250KV, 24mA, orthovoltage x-ray machine. Histopathological changes of acute skin reaction at the level of total irradiation dose were analyzed and the possible mechanism of later chronic changes were investigated. Obtained results are as follows: 1. In 1,000 rad irradiated group, only mild epidermal edema is noted. 2. In 2,000 rad irradiated group, slightly decreased number and size of hair follicles and appendages, dermal edema and scanty infiltration of inflammatory cells are visible. 3. In 3,000 rad irradiated group, marked increased capillary congestion and prominant infiltration of inflammatory cells are observed. 4. In 4,000 rad irradiated group, vascular wall thickening with proliferation of endothelial cells are prominant. Dermal thinning and hyalinization are newly developed. 5. In 5,000 rad irradiated group, complete desquamation of epidermis is not seen, despite of acceleration of all above mentioned changes.
