  • To study the effects of patenting temperature and isothermal holding time on the phase transformation and mechanical property changes of SAE 1078 steel, the patenting process was performed at 460℃, 560℃, and 660℃ for isothermal times (30 s, 60 s, 90 s, 120 s, and 150 s) after nitrogen cooling under austenitizing conditions (1000℃, 2 min). In this study, a scanning electron microscope was used to measure the microstructure and interlamellar spacing of pearlite according to process variables, and an X-ray diffraction analyzer was used to calculate the phase fraction. Cooling rate is approximately 18.6℃/s from the austenitizing temperature to the patenting temperature and pearlite transformation begins at 597~602℃. As the patenting temperature increases, the rate of carbon diffusion during isothermal step increases, so a relatively coarse pearlite structure is formed, and the hardness tends to decrease overall. As the isothermal holding time increased, the hardness of the treated specimens converged to 420Hv, 376Hv, and 268Hv, respectively, because the phase transformation was sufficiently completed at 460℃, 560℃, and 660℃. On the other hand, as the isothermal holding time became shorter, sufficient phase transformation did not occur after the isothermal process, so retained austenite existed, resulting in a decrease in hardness.

  • IDEF(Integrated Definition) method, a standard methodology of CALS process modelling, was applied to the weapon system R&D process to provide information modelling by analysing about goal, input, output and constraints in the R&D process. The information to be managed in R&D institutes was identified by using SmartER which is the automation program of IDEF1/1X and obtained information modelling for TO-BE model. The work process of weapon system R&D consists of the concept study phase, the exploration development phase, the system development phase, the prototype manufacturing phase, and the report writing of R&D results phase. The information modelling of weapon system R&D is the R&D work process with information sharing by means of IWSDB Since IDEF is suitable for large scale system development like weapon system R&D, further studies on IDEF would be required to achieve the goal of defense CALS.

  • Titanium oxide thin films were prepared on Si(100) substrates by R.F. magnetron reactive sputtering at $30\sim200watt$ R.F power range, and annealed at $600^{\circ}C\sim800^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The properties of $TiO_2$ thin films were analyzed using x-ray, ${\alpha}-step$, ellipsometer, scanning electron microscopy, and FT-IR spectrometer. Upon in-situ depositions, the initial phase of $TiO_2$ thin film showed non-crystalline phase at R.F. power $30\sim100$ watt. The crosssection of $TiO_2$ thin films were sbserved to be the columnar structure. With the increasing R.F power and annealing temperature, the grain size, crystallinity, refractive index, and void size of titanium oxides showed a tended to increase. The FT-IR transmittance spectra of titanium oxide thin films have the obsorption band of Ti-O bond, Si-O bond, Si-O-Ti bond and O-H bond. With the increase of R.F. power and annealing temperature, these films have the stronger bond structures. It is considered that such a phenomena is due to phase transition and good crystallinity

  • The frictional pressure drop of a capillary tube flow is experimentally investigated for pure refrigerants such as R32, R125, and R134a and refrigerant mixtures such as R32/R134a(30/70 by mass percent), R32/R125(60/40), R125/R134a(30/70), and R32/R125/R134a(23/25/52). The binary interaction parameters for the calculation of viscosities of refrigerant mixtures are found based upon the data in the open literature. Several homogeneous flow models predicting the viscosity of two-phase region are compared to select the best model. Cicchitti's equation is known to be the most adequate for the prediction of the viscosity for refrigerant mixtures, which is used in the analysis of adiabatic capillary flows. A model for the prediction of the frictional pressure drop of single and two-phase flow is developed for refrigerant mixtures in this study. This model may be used to design and analyze the performance of a capillary tube in the refrigerating system.

  • Single-phase heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops of R-718 were measured in smooth, horizontal copper tubes with inner diameters of 3.36 ㎜, 5.35 ㎜. 6.54 ㎜ and 8.12 ㎜, respectively. The experiments were conducted in the closed loop, which was driven by a magnetic gear pump. Data are presented for the following range of variables : Reynolds from 1000 to 20000. Single-phase heat transfer coefficients increased by 10∼30 % as the inner diameter of tube was reduced and it was found that a well-known previous correlation, Gnielinski's correlation was not suitable for the small diameter tubes. But the pressure drop in the small diameter tubes have been shown slightly deviations with Blauius' correlation. Based on an analogy between heat and mass transfer. the new heat transfer correlation is proposed to predict the experimental data successfully.

  • In order to obtain the optimal estimation method of fracture toughness of dual phase steel in which martensitic phase encapsulated islands of ferritic phase, the stretched zone (SZ) method and the R-curve method of the JSME S 001 was discussed. The results obtained are as follows. (1) The $J_{IC}$ values estimated by the SZ method are overestimated as compared with those by the R-curve method. (2) The $J_{IC}$ by the R-curve method decreases with the increase of the ferrite grain size and the martensite hardness. (3) The overestimation of $J_{IC}$ by the SZ method is due to the continuous plastic blunting of ferrite after the formation of stable crack which affects the critical stretched zone width.

  • The distance relay is very important for transmission line protection. A quadrilateral zone shape is used mainly for a modern digital distance relay. The shape of quadrilateral is vendor specific. At the stage of design, the shape is determined considering all possible types of faults and diverse configurations of system. Also this type relay must be designed to avoid the operation by a sound phase at single-Phase-to-ground fault, by a sound phase at two-phase-to-ground fault. The effect of a source impedance and a load impedance is another important factor to design. In this paper, a reliable zone shape which is appropriate for the KEPCO's transmission system is provided.

  • II-A isotherms and phase behaviors of 'tocomide', a newly synthesized 1,3-bis(N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-tocopherol succinylamino)-2-hydroxypropane, mixed with cholesterol and linoleic acid, was studied for its monolayer miscibility and a stable delivery formulation for antioxidant applications. The monolayer of tocomide and cholesterol was formed in a homogeneously mixed state at air-water interface. The ternary mixtures with linoleic acid showed various bulk structures, including a stable and transparent solution of thermodynamically stable lamellar phase. The lamellar structure was confirmed by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns and polarized microscopy such that pure tocomide formed a liquid crystal at room temperature with a lamellar periodicity of 36.7 $\AA$(2$\theta$=2.41$^{\circ}$).

  • In this paper, we propose a new resolver-to digital(R/D) conversion method, in which a bang-bang type phase comparator is employed for fast tracking. We eliminate from the R/D conversion loop the low-pass filter which is needed to reject carrier signal and noise. Instead, we employ two prefilters outside the R/D conversion loop that take the role of the low-pass filter. Thereby, we can construct a fast and accurate tracking R/D converter. Some simulation and experimental results as well as mathematical performance analysis are presented to demonstrate the superior tracking performance of our R/D converter over conventional tracking R/D converters.
