  • Data acquisition system and computer program developed in this study could be well used in engine vibration analysis. The system and program developed were also operated to be able to control measuring interval, number of channels, number of data. The flywheel was specially studied to provide the proper weight with rubber damper for the engine design at low level of vibration. This study was conducted to obtain basic data which affect the engine vibration. The experiment of this study was performed on original weight flywheel, weight-reduced flywheel, weight-reduced and rubber-coated flywheel, weight-reduced and damper-attached flywheel. Avarage of peak value, maximum vibration, power spectrum density based on FFT analysis are major factors of this experiment. Results were obtained as follows : 1. When rubber was inserted in the flywheel rim of which weight was reduced from 32.2kgf to 24.4 kgf, maximum vibration of the engine was decreased 48.3% at X axis, 35.5% at Y axis and 34.6% at Z axis in comparison with the flywheel of original weight. 2. When the flywheel of rubber damper was compared with the original flywheel, the average of absolute vibration for rubber damped flywheel was decreased at X, Y, Z axis and especially its decreasing rate was so high at X-axis comparing with the other flywheel, which implied that rubber damper was very useful to reducing the vibration of the engine at X axis. 3. Hysteresis losses of X, Y, Z axis were greatly decreased in the flywheel with rubber damper on rim. 4. Damped oscillation effect on X and Y axis vibration above average peak vibration by the flywheel of rubber damper on rim was larger than those by the other flywheels. 5. Power spectrums of vibration at real and imaginery part were bi-mode type. The vibration frequency of rubber dampered flywheel which weight is decreased was slightly increased as compared with original flywheel.

  • The superconducting coil system is one of the most important components in Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR), which has been operated since 2008. $Nb_3Sn$ and NbTi superconductors are being used for cable-in-conduit conductors (CICCs) of the KSTAR toroidal field (TF) and poloidal field (PF) coils. The CICCs are cooled by forced-flow supercritical helium about 4.5 K. The temperature, pressure and mass flow rate of the supercritical helium in the CICCs are interacting with each other during the operation of the coils. The complicate behaviors of the supercritical helium have an effect on the operation and the efficiency of the helium refrigeration system (HRS) by means of, for instance, pressure drop. The hydraulic characteristics of the supercritical helium have been monitored while the TF coils have stably achieved the full current of 35 kA. In other hands, the PF coils have been operated with various pulsed or bipolar mode, so the drastic changes happen in view of hydraulics. The heat load including AC loss on the coils has been analyzed according to the measurement. These activities are important to estimate the temperature margin in various PF operation conditions. In this paper, the latest hydraulic behaviors of PF coils during KSTAR operation are presented.

  • Self-incompatibility in Brassica campestris is controlled by multi-allele system in a single genetic locus, the S locus, and it is elucidated that S-glycoproteins are S gene products. In this experiments, we examined the genetic mode(pollen tube behavior and segregation of S-glycoprotein), characteristic of S-glycoproteins and DNA constitution within nuclear genome on S gene family that unexplained by single locus model, and investigated the segregation pattern of S-glycoproteins in bred F1 generation. By diallel cross among the 15 plants within one family the existence of three types of homozygotes and three types of heterozygotes were observed, and segregation of S-allele could not explained by single locus model. From the results of IEF-immunoblot analysis for non-segregated individual plant, the segregation pattern of S specific bands was corresponded with results of diallel cross except with one case(SaSa genotype). The molecular weight of 6 different S-genotype varied in near by 50 kD, and each genotype expressed with 2 or 3 bands. Specific bands in SaSa, SbSb, ScSc has almost similar molecular weight between them. Southern analysis of genomic DNA probed with S-glycoprotein cDNA for 6 different genotypes revealed that there are clear difference in polymorphism, multiple bands of hybridization, when restriction enzymes of EcoR I were used. It could be assumed that there are several sequences related to the S-glycoprotein structural genes within their nuclear genome. Therefore, we suggested the possibilities that S-allele system could be controlled by multi-locus, that dominance-recessive interactions could be explained by modifier gene or supressor gene based on the results of abnormal segregation of S-glycoprotein in bred F1. The F2 analyses are progressing in now.

  • Voltage-gated $Ca^{2+}$ ($Ca_V$) channels are dynamically modulated by Gprotein-coupled receptors (GPCR). The $M_1$ muscarinic receptor stimulation is known to enhance $Ca_V2.3$ channel gating through the activation of protein kinase C (PKC). Here, we found that $M_1$ receptors also inhibit $Ca_V2.3$ currents when the channels are fully activated by PKC. In whole-cell configuration, the application of phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA), a PKC activator, potentiated $Ca_V2.3$ currents by ~two-fold. After the PMA-induced potentiation, stimulation of $M_1$ receptors decreased the $Ca_V2.3$ currents by $52{\pm}8%$. We examined whether the depletion of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate ($PI(4,5)P_2$) is responsible for the muscarinic suppression of $Ca_V2.3$ currents by using two methods: the Danio rerio voltage-sensing phosphatase (Dr-VSP) system and the rapamycin-induced translocatable pseudojanin (PJ) system. First, dephosphorylation of $PI(4,5)P_2$ to phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI(4)P) by Dr-VSP significantly suppressed $Ca_V2.3$ currents, by $53{\pm}3%$. Next, dephosphorylation of both PI(4)P and $PI(4,5)P_2$ to PI by PJ translocation further decreased the current by up to $66{\pm}3%$. The results suggest that $Ca_V2.3$ currents are modulated by the $M_1$ receptor in a dual mode-that is, potentiation through the activation of PKC and suppression by the depletion of membrane $PI(4,5)P_2$. Our results also suggest that there is rapid turnover between PI(4)P and $PI(4,5)P_2$ in the plasma membrane.

  • This study presents a dry precast concrete (PC) beam-column connection, and its target seismic performance level is set to be emulative to the reinforced concrete (RC) intermediate moment resisting frame system specified in ACI 318 and ASCE 7. The key features include self-sustaining ability during construction with the dry mechanical splicing method, enabling emulative connection performances and better constructability. Test specimens with code-compliant seismic details were fabricated and tested under reversed cyclic loading, which included a PC beam-column connection specimen with dry connections and an RC control specimen. The test results showed that all the specimens failed in a similar failure mode due to plastic deformations in beam members, while the hysteretic response curve of the PC specimen showed comparable and emulative performances compared to the RC specimen. Seismic performance evaluation was quantitatively addressed, and on this basis, it confirmed that the presented system can fully satisfy all the required performance for the intermediate RC moment resisting frame.

  • Motion control of the system is a position control of motor. Motion control of an uncertain robot system is considered as one of the most important and fundamental research directions in the robotics. Some distinguished works using linear control, adaptive control, robust control strategies based on computed torque methodology have been reported. However, it is generally recognized within the control community that these strategies suffer from the following problems : the exact robot dynamics are needed and hard to implement, the adaptive control cannot guarantee the performance during the transient period for adaptation under the variation, the robust control algorithms such as the sliding mode control need information on the bounds of the possible uncertainty and disturbance. And it produces a large control input as well. In this dissertation, a motion control for the unmanned intelligent robot system using disturbance observer is studied. This system is affected with an impact vibration disturbance. This paper describes a stable motion control of the system with the consideration of external disturbance. To obtain the stable motion independently against the external disturbance, the disturbance rejection is strongly required. To address the above issue, this paper presents a Disturbance OBserver(DOB) control algorithm. The validity of the suggested DOB robust control scheme is confirmed by several computer simulation results. And the experiments with a motor system is performed to give the validity of applicability in the industrial field. This results make the easier implementation of the controller possible in the field.

  • We have carried out the development for hydraulic breaker which can be operated by optimal mode with ICT convergence technology. This developed system can predict the rock properties. Moreover, this system can maximize the energy efficient with intelligent control of hydraulic system. In order to provide the optimal impact force, this system can measure the descending depth of piston with the proximity sensor and discriminate the rock properties with the measuring data and control the piston stroke using solenoid valve eventually. In addition, we have developed the controller, display module and operating device for cascade (multi-level impact) system and applied the module which can communicate each system by wireless communications. In conclusion, the control system which can control the multi-level impact in accordance with strength of rocks has been developed and approved by several field tests.

  • The effects of zinc chloride addition on pore development of porous carbon nanofibers prepared by polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/ N,N'-dimethylformamide (DMF) (10 wt%) electrospinning were investigated. The change of morphological and structural modification by zinc chloride activation was investigated by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. $N_2$ adsorption isotherm characteristics at 77 K were confirmed by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and Horvath-Kawazoe (H-K) equations, and the curves showed the Type I mode in the International Union of Pore and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) classification, indicating that lots of micropores exist in the sample. In addition, specific surface areas and total pore volumes of porous carbons prepared by the zinc chloride activation were determined as 600~980 $m^2/g$ and 0.24~0.40 $cm^3/g$, respectively. As experimental results, many holes or demolished structures were found on the fiber surfaces after the zinc chloride activation as confirmed by a SEM analysis. It was also observed that various pore sizes were found to be depended on the adding content of zinc chloride in PAN/DMF solution in this system.

  • Since the radar satellite missions such as TerraSAR-X and COSMO-SkyMed were launched in 2007, the spatial resolution of spaceborne SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) images reaches about 1 meter at spotlight mode. In 2011, the first Korean SAR satellite, KOMPSAT-5, will be launched, operating at X-band with the highest spatial resolution of 1 m as well. The improved spatial resolution of state-of-the-art SAR sensor suggests expanding InSAR(Interferometric SAR) analysis in urban monitoring. By the way, the shadow and layover phenomena are more prominent in urban areas due to building structure because of inherent side-looking geometry of SAR system. Up to date the most conventional algorithms do not consider the return signals at the frontage of building during InSAR phase and SAR intensity simulation. In this study the new algorithm introducing multi-scattering in layover region is proposed for phase and intensity simulation, which is utilized a precise LIDAR DSM(Digital Surface Model) in urban areas. The InSAR phases simulated by the proposed method are compared with TerraSAR-X spotlight data. As a result, both InSAR phases are well matched, even in layover areas. This study will be applied to urban monitoring using high resolution SAR data, in terms of change detection and displacement monitoring at the scale of building unit.

  • This paper presents numerical results of static structural stability analysis in development of a vertical transfer device of a PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) vehicle. The vertical transfer of a fully occupied vehicle operating on a road network is the first attempt, which is expected to contribute to overcome the limitations of conventional 2-dimensional operation mode. In particular, the vertical transfer apparatus designed based on vertical circulating conveyors is capable of continuous transfer without time delay so that it enables to accommodate a high traffic density. This system has been frequently used in a logistics field; however, it is essential to assess a structural integrity because an external force by a vehicle weight is exerted on the conveyors in the form of a concentrated load unlike a conventional logistic transport. In this study, prior to the production process, the structural performance of the pilot design in an early stage is numerically evaluated using the commercial finite element method (FEM) solver (i.e., $Ansys^{(R)}$).
