Ultrafine grained (UFG) low carbon (0.15 wt.% C) steel produced by equal channel angula. pressing (ECAP) was tested for investigating the effect of load ratio on the fatigue crack growth rate. Fatigue crack growth resistance and threshold of UFG steel were lower than that of asreceived coarse grained steel. It was attributed to the less tortuous crack path. The UFG steel exhibited slightly higher crack growth rates and a lower △Kth with an increase of R ratio. The R ratio effect on crack growth rates and △Kth was basically indistinguishable at lower load ratio (R >0.3), compared to other alloys, which indicates that contribution of the crack closure vanishes. The crack growth rate curve for UFG steel exhibited a longer linear extension to the lower growth rate regime than that for the coarse grained as-received steel.
The magnitude of wear should be at a minimum for numerous automobile and aeronautical components. In the current work, composites were prepared by varying the cenosphere content using the conventional stir casting method. A uniform distribution of particles was ensured with the help of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Three major parameters were chosen from various factors that affect the wear. A wear test was conducted with a pin-on-disc apparatus; the controlling parameters were volume percentages of reinforcement of 5, 10, 15, and 20%, applied loads of 9.8, 29.42, and 49.03 N, and sliding speeds of 1.26, 2.51, and 3.77 m/s. The design of the experiments (DOE) was performed by varying the different influencing parameters using the full factorial method. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze the effects of the parameters on the wear rate. Using regression analysis, a response curve was obtained based on the experimental results. The parameters in the resulting curve were optimized using the Genetic Algorithm (GA). The GA results were compared with those of an alternate efficient algorithm called Neural Networks (NNs).
The application of fracture mechanics is being increased gradually to assess the safety of welded structures containing crack. Fatigue crack propagation behavior and elastic-plastic fracture toughness J$_{IC}$ of home made flux cored wire(1.22mm) CO$_{2}$ weldments was discussed. Especially fatigue crack propagation test was carried out by .DELTA.K control instead of load control and elastic-plastic fracture toughness J$_{IC}$ was obtained by ASTM-R curve method on C.T.specimen in transverse direction of weldments. The results obtained are as follows; (1) Weld metal presented an almost complete similarity to base metal on fatigue crack propagation rate in transverse direction. (2) Weld metal was more than base metal on J$_{IC}$ value in transverse direction. (3) F.C.W. CO$_{2}$ weldments had an excellent characteristic of fatigue crack propagation rate and J$_{IC}$ in less than 50kg/mm$^{2}$ steel grade, this would result from that weld metal had good static strength.trength.

Since existing hysteretic models for R/C members focused on presenting the degrading stiffness using empirical equations based on experiments, they cannot accurately predict the energy dissipation capacity during cyclic loading. Recently, design equations which can evaluate the energy dissipation capacity of R/C members were developed. Based on those equations, in the present study, an energy-based hysteretic model for flexure-dominated R/C members was developed. The proposed model was devised to dissipate the same energy as the actual one dissipated during a complete load cycle. The proposed model represents the hysteretic behaviors of R/C members accompanied by stiffness degradation and pinching using primary and cyclic curves and six unloading/reloading rules. The proposed model was verified by comparisons with various experimental results. The energy-based hysteretic model can be used to develop computer programs for static and dynamic analysis/design because it is simple and easily applicable to numerical analysis.
Dynamic ductile fracture (DDF) has been studied in the transportation pipeline for the carbon dioxide capture and storage(CCS) system. DDF behavior of CCS transportation pipeline has been analyzed using Battelle Two Curve Method (BTCM) and compared with the DDF behavior of natural gas pipeline. The operating safety criteria against the DDF has been investigated based on the sensitivity analyses of the pipe thickness and the operating temperature for the $CO_2$ pipeline. The DDF criteria can be applied to confirm the operating safety of the $CO_2$ pipeline. If the commercial natural gas pipeline were used at room temperature as a $CO_2$ pipeline, the thickness of pipe should be at least 7mm and the pressure should be less than 54bar for the $CO_2$ pipeline system.

The aim of the present study was to improve dosing of lacosamide, a functionalized amino acid used as an antiepileptic agent, from twice daily to once daily for the convenience of patients. A sustained-release lacosamide tablet was developed and dissolution testing was employed to determine in vitro release behavior using water or buffer solutions at pH 1.2, 4.0, or 6.8. Lacosamide was released for 12 h from the sustainedrelease (SR) tablet, as compared to complete release within 1 h from an immediate-release $Vimpat^{(R)}$ tablet. Each formulation (100 mg) was orally administered to six beagle dogs and six mini-pigs under fasted conditions, and pharmacokinetic parameters such as the area under the concentration time curve ($AUC_t$), the maximum plasma concentration ($C_{max}$), and the time at which this occurred ($T_{max}$) were calculated. These results showed similar values for $AUC_t$, $C_{max}$, and $T_{max}$ following oral administration of immediate-release ($Vimpat^{(R)}$) and SR lacosamide tablets.

This paper presents the performance improvement of an EQS (Eradic Quake System) device applied to a nuclear power plant. For the nuclear facility, the EQS device needs to be ensured to have high quality, flexibility of design and reliability. To improve the reliability of the design, the hysteresis of the device must be exactly predicted. The friction coefficient of PTFE (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene) and the stiffness of the MER-Spring are considered as the factors influencing the hysteresis curve. In this paper, those factors are analysed to predict the behavior of the device and to improve the equipment of the EQS device. The results of the improved EQS device have been verified via a tests to be comparable with the predicted results. The estimation results indicate that considering those factors is more appropriate than the results of the previous design and method.
Recently, the market of liquefied natural gas is growing in accordance with shale gas development and environmentally friendly policies. Also, LNG is in the spotlight as an alternative fuel to previously used fossil fuel and the fuel for the ship to meet emission standards which takes effected by IMO (International Maritime Organization). According to growth of LNG, LNG carriers needs are also expected to increase significantly. This study investigates low cycle fatigue (LCF) performance of 304L stainless steel weldments to investigate fatigue performance in plastic strain region. 304L stainless steel is known to have improved fatigue performance at cryogenic conditions. LCF behavior are investigated by a strain-controlled condition up to 1% strain range and conducted with three different thickness (3mm, 5mm, 10mm). Also, test were performed with three different strain ratio R such as R = -1, -0, 0.5, Finally, the fatigue design curve for 304L stainless steel weldments at room tem- perature are proposed. Considering all test conditions, it is shown that LCF performance have similar tendency regardless of thickness and strain ratio. LCF design curve of 304L stainless steel weldments are lower than 304L stainless steel base metal.
The differences in pharmacokinetic behavior and tissue distribution of verapamil and its enantiomers were investigated in rats. In high-performance liquid chromatographic method, an achiral ODS column (150 mm $\times$ 4.6 mm i.d.) with the mobile phase consisting of methanol-water (73:30, v/v) was used for the determination of the concentration for racemic verapamil, and a Chiralcel OJ column (250 mm$\times$4.6 mm i.d.) with the mixture of n-haxane-ethanol-triethylamine (85:15:0.2, v/v/v) as mobile phase was used to determine the concentrations of verapamil enantiomers. A fluorescence detector in the analytical system was set at excitation and emission wavelengths of 275 nm and 315 nm. The differences between enantiomers were apparent in the pharmacokinetics in rats. The area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) of S-(-) verapamil was higher than that of R-(+) verapamil. The half-distribution time ($T_{1/2(\alpha)}$) of S-(-) verapamil which distributing to tissue from blood was shorter than that of R-(+) verapamil, but the elimination half-time ($T_{1/2(\beta)}$) was longer in rat following oral administration of racemic verapamil. At 1.3 h after oral administration of racemic verapamil, however, there were no significant differences between enantiomers for the distributions in major tissues such as heart, cerebrum, cerebellum, liver, spleen and kidney.
Considering the increasing use of tubular profiles in civil construction, this paper highlights the study on the behavior of welded connections between square hollow section column and I-beam, with emphasis on the assessment of the joint stiffness. Firstly, a theoretical analysis of the welded joints has been done focusing on prescriptions of the technical literature for the types of geometries mentioned. Then, a numerical analysis of the proposed joints were performed by the finite element method (FEM) with the software ANSYS 16.0. In this study, two models were evaluated for different parameters, such as the thickness of the cross section of the column and the sizes of cross section of the beams. The first model describes a connection in which one beam is connected to the column in a unique bending plane, while the second model describes a connection of two beams to the column in two bending planes. From the numerical results, the bending moment-rotation ($M-{\varphi}$) curve was plotted in order to determine the resistant bending moment and classify each connection according to its rotational capacity. Furthermore, an equation was established with the aim of estimating the rotational stiffness of welded I beam-to-RHS column connections, which can be used during the structure design. The results show that most of the connections are semi-rigid, highlighting the importance of considering the stiffness of the connections in the structure design.
