  • This study examines the influence of early English education on children's bilingual language development to see whether the early exposure to English education affects children's competencies of both English and Korean. Based on this purpose, it attempts to examine whether it supports additive or subtractive bilingualism. The competencies of both English and Korean of the children with early English education were, therefore, compared with those of the children without it, and the relation between the two competencies was also studied. For this research, two different groups of children - one with 48 children who attend English kindergarten and the other with 60 children who attend only Korean kindergarten - took PPVT-R in Korean and in English each. The result shows that children with early English education have more English competency than those without it. No significant differences, however, are found in Korean competency between the two groups. The relation between the two competencies proves positive in children with early English education. It can thus be concluded that the effect of early English education is partially positive on children's language development, which may support the additive bilingualism that children's second language can improve without losing their native language competency. In addition, this result will be able to provide for us the direction and the guideline to the policy of foreign language education and early education.

  • Sentiment refers to a person's thoughts, opinions, and feelings toward an object. Sentiment analysis is a process of collecting opinions on a specific target and classifying them according to their emotions, and applies to opinion mining that analyzes product reviews and reviews on the web. Companies and users can grasp the opinions of public opinion and come up with a way to do so. Recently, natural language processing models using the Transformer structure have appeared, and Google's BERT is a representative example. Afterwards, various models came out by remodeling the BERT. Among them, the Facebook AI team unveiled the XLM-R (XLM-RoBERTa), an upgraded XLM model. XLM-R solved the data limitation and the curse of multilinguality by training XLM with 2TB or more refined CC (CommonCrawl), not Wikipedia data. This model showed that the multilingual model has similar performance to the single language model when it is trained by adjusting the size of the model and the data required for training. Therefore, in this paper, we study the improvement of Korean sentiment analysis performed using a pre-trained XLM-R model that solved curse of multilinguality and improved performance.

  • In this paper, we propose a policy-driven RFID data management event definition language, which is possibly applicable as a partial standard for SSI (Software System Infrastructure) Part 4 (Application Interface, 24791-4) defined by ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 31/WG 4 (RFID for Item Management). The SSI's RFID application interface part is originally defined for providing a unified interface of the RFID middleware functionality―data management, device management, device interface and security functions. However, the current specifications are too circumstantial to be understood by the application developers who used to lack the professional and technological backgrounds of the RFID middleware functionality. As an impeccable solution, we use the concept of event-constraint policy that is not only representing semantic contents of RFID domains but also providing transparencies with higher level abstractions to RFID applications, and that is able to provide a means of specifying event-constraints for filtering a huge number of raw data caught from the associated RF readers. Conclusively, we try to embody the proposed concept by newly defining an XML-based RFID event policy definition language, which is abbreviated to rXPDL. Additionally, we expect that the specification of rXPDL proposed in the paper becomes a technological basis for the domestic as well as the international standards that are able to be extensively applied to RFID and ubiquitous sensor networks.

  • A multi-regression model was developed to estimate the decommissioning cost for Kori unit 1 using foreign nuclear power plant (NPP) decommissioning cost data. First, the decommissioning cost data were collected for 13 boiling water reactors and 16 pressurized water reactors and converted into the values as of November 2019. Then, for the regression model, the decommissioning cost was chosen as the dependent variable, and two variables were selected as independent variables: a contamination factor that was designed to reflect the operational characteristics of the decommissioned NPP and the decommissioning period. A statistical package in the R language was used to derive the regression model. Finally, the regression model was applied to estimate the decommissioning cost for Kori unit 1. The estimated decommissioning cost for Kori unit 1 was 663.40~928.32 million US dollars (782,812~1,095,418 million Korean won).

  • The influences of the basic academic skills to the scholastic achievement grades has been researched and we made a test of the basic academic skills(Korean language, mathematic, foreign language) to the students of engineering department in I college in Seoul and analyzed the correlation between the basic academic skills and the scholastic achievement grades. Results show that the scholastic achievement grades has a correlation(r=.456, p<0.01) to the average grade of the basic academic skill test. High level students of the scholastic achievement grades have a correlation(r=.292, p<0.01) to the mathematical department and the others have a correlation(r=.232, p<0.05 and r=.279, p<0.01) to the Korean linguistic department. The results of this study through multiple regression analysis indicate that the scholastic achievement has a relation on Korean language skill. As a result, It is recommendable that the mathematical basic academic skill programs are suggested to the high-level students of the scholastic achievement grades and the linguistic basic academic skill programs to the others. Also, the required basic linguistic subject is needed to the low-level students of the basic academic skills and in this paper, we propose the test and management system for the basic campus-life skills including the basic academic skills and the basic major skills.

  • In this paper, to design a basic data science practice curriculum as a liberal arts subject for non-majors, we proposed an educational method using an Excel(spreadsheet) data analysis tool. Tools for data collection, data processing, and data analysis include Excel, R, Python, and Structured Query Language (SQL). When it comes to practicing data science, R, Python and SQL need to understand programming languages and data structures together. On the other hand, the Excel tool is a data analysis tool familiar to the general public, and it does not have the burden of learning a programming language. And if you practice basic data science practice with Excel, you have the advantage of being able to concentrate on acquiring data science content. In this paper, a basic data science practice curriculum for one semester and weekly Excel practice contents were proposed. And, to demonstrate the substance of the educational content, examples of Linear Regression Analysis were presented using Excel data analysis tools.

  • Big data analysis is the process of discovering meaningful new correlations, patterns, and trends in large volumes of data stored in data stores and creating new value. Thus, most big data analysis technology methods include data mining, machine learning, natural language processing, and pattern recognition used in existing statistical computer science. Also, using the R language, a big data tool, we can express analysis results through various visualization functions using pre-processing text data. The data used in this study was analyzed for 21 papers in the March 2021 among the journals of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering. In the final analysis results, the most frequently mentioned keyword was "Data", which ranked first 305 times. Therefore, based on the results of the analysis, the limitations of the study and theoretical implications are suggested.
