A beta ray scanner was proposed for in-situ discrimination of beta and gamma ray radioactivity. This scanner is based on the principle that gamma and beta rays experience different changes in detection efficiency in scintillators with different geometries, especially with regard to the scintillator thickness. The ratios of the counting rates of gamma rays (Rgamma), beta rays (Rbeta), and sample measurements (Rtotal) in a thick scintillator to those in a thin one are reported. The parameter Xthick, which represents the counting rate contributed by beta rays to the total counting rate in the thick scintillator, was derived as a function of those ratios. The values of Rgamma and Rbeta for 60Co and 90Sr sources were estimated as 3.2 ± 0.057 and 0.99 ± 0.0049, respectively. The estimated beta ray contributions had relative standard deviations of 2.05-4.96%. The estimated range of the beta rays emitted from 90Sr was 19 mm as per the Monte Carlo N-Particle simulation, and this value was experimentally verified. Homogeneous and surface contaminations of 60Co and 90Sr-90Y were simulated for application of the proposed method. The counting rate contributed by the beta rays was derived and found to be proportional to the concentration of 90Sr-90Y contamination.

In this study, heavy rare earth garnet $Tb_2Bi_1Ga_1Fe_4O_{12}$ powders were fabricated by a sol-gel and vacuum annealing process. The crystal structure was found to be single-phase garnet with a space group of Ia3d. The lattice constant $a_0$ was determined to be 12.465 ${\AA}$. From the analysis of the vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) hysteresis loop at room temperature, the saturation magnetization and coercivity of the sample are 7.64 emu/g and 229 Oe, respectively. The N$\acute{e}$el temperature($T_N$) was determined to be 525 K. The M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectrum of $Tb_2Bi_1Ga_1Fe_4O_{12}$ at room temperature consists of 2 sets of 6 Lorentzians, which is the pattern of single-phase garnet. From the results of the M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectrum at room temperature, the absorption area ratios of Fe ions on 24d and 16a sites are 74.7% and 25.3%(approximately 3:1), respectively. These results show that all of the non-magnetic Ga atoms occupy the 16a site by a vacuum annealing process. Absorption area ratios of Fe ions are dependent not only on a sintering condition but also on the temperature of the sample. It can then be interpreted that the Ga ion distribution is dependent on the temperature of the sample. The M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer measurement was carried out in order to investigate the atomic migration in $Tb_2Bi_1Ga_1Fe_4O_{12}$.
In this paper, we consider the oscillation of the following certain second order nonlinear differential equations $(r(t)(x^{\prime}(t))^{\alpha})^{\prime}+q(t)x^{\beta}(t)=0$>, where ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ are ratios of positive odd integers. New oscillation theorems are established, which are based on a class of new functions ${\Phi}={\Phi}(t,s,l)$ defined in the sequel. Also, we establish some interval oscillation criteria for this equation.

The structures of $Tl_{12-2x}Zn_x-A$ (x = 4.3 and 3.25), vacuum dehydrated zeolite A with all $Na^+$ ions replaced by $Tl^+$ and $Zn^{2+}$ as indicated, have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in cubic space group Pm3m at 21(1) $^{\circ}C$ (a=12.100(2) ${\AA}$ for $Tl_{3.4}Zn_{4.3}-A$ and a=12.092(2) ${\AA}$ for $Tl_{5.5}Zn_{3.25}-A$). The crystals of $Tl_{3.4}Zn_{4.3}-A$ and $Tl_{5.5}Zn_{3.25}-A$ were prepared by flow method using exchange solutions in which mole ratios of $TlNO_3$,/TEX> and $Zn(NO_3)_2$ were 1:50 and 1:1, respectively, with total concentration of 0.05 M. The structures of the dehydrated $Tl_{3.4}Zn_{4.3}-A$ and $Tl_{5.5}Zn_{3.25}-A$ were refined to yield the final error indices $R_1$ = 0.075 and $R_2$ = 0.075 with 236 reflections, and $R_1$ = 0.057 and $R_2$ = 0.064 with 202 reflections, respectively, for which I > 3$\sigma$(I). Both structures indicate that Zn(II) ions are coordinated by three framework oxygens: the Zn(II) to O(3) distances are 2.08(1) ${\AA}$ for $Tl_{3.4}Zn_{4.3}-A$ and 2.07(1) ${\AA}$ for $Tl_{5.5}Zn_{3.25}-A$, respectively. In each structure, the angle subtended at Zn(II), O(3)-Zn(II)-O(3) is 119.9(3)$^{\circ}$ for $Tl_{3.4}Zn_{4.3}-A$, and 120.0(3)$^{\circ}$ for $Tl_{5.5}Zn_{3.25}-A$, respectively, close to the idealized trigonal-planar value. Zn(II) ions prefer to 6-ring sites. $Tl^+$ ions do not have any preference to a particular site but occupy simultaneously both at the 6-ring sites and 8-ring sites.
Relative retention times (RRTs) of RAH molecules in HPLC are trained and predicted intesting sets using a multiple linear regression (NLR) and an artificial neural network (ANN). The maindescriptors in QSRR are molecular connectivity ($^1X_v,\;^2X_v$), the length-to-breadth ratios (L/B), and molecular dipole moment(D). L/B which is related with slot model is a good descripter in ANN, but isn't in MLR. Varainces which show the accuracy of prediction times in testing sets are 0.0099, 0.0114 for ANN and MLR, respectively. It was shown that ANN can exceed the MLR in prediction accuracy.

Non-isothermal thermogravimetry (TG) measurements on melt-quenched $Bi_xSe_{100-x}$ specimens (x=0, 2.5, 7.5 at%) were made at a heating rate ${\beta}=10^{\circ}C/min$ in the range $T=35^{\circ}C{\sim}950^{\circ}C$. The as-measured TG curves confirm that $Bi_xSe_{100-x}$ samples were thermally stable with minor loss at $T{\leq}400^{\circ}C$ and mass loss starts to decrease up to $600^{\circ}C$, beyond which trivial mass loss was observed. These TG curves were used to estimate molar (Se/Bi)-ratios of $Bi_xSe_{100-x}$ samples, which were not in accordance with initial composition. Shaping features of conversion curves ${\alpha}(T)-T$ of $Bi_xSe_{100-x}$ samples combined with a reliable flow chart were used to reduce kinetic mechanisms that would have caused their thermal mass loss to few nth-order reaction models of the form $f[{\alpha}(T)]{\propto}[1-{\alpha}(T)]^n$ (n=1/2, 2/3, and 1). The constructed ${\alpha}(T)-T$ and $(d{\alpha}(T)/dT)-T$ curves were analyzed using Coats-Redfern (CR) and Achar-Brindley-Sharp (ABS) kinetic formulas on basis of these model functions, but the linearity of attained plots were good in a limited ${\alpha}(T)-region$. The applicability of CR and ABS methods, with model function of kinetic reaction mechanism R0 (n=0), was notable as they gave best linear fits over much broader ${\alpha}(T)-range$.

The steady-state kinetics of the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of $NO_X$ with $NH_3$ has been investigated over a commercial ${V_2}{O_5}/TiO_2$ catalyst. In order to account for the influence of transport effects the kinetics are coupled with a fully transient two-phase 1D+1D monolith channel model. The Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) mechanism is adopted to describe the steady-state kinetic behavior of the ${V_2}{O_5}/TiO_2$ catalyst. The reaction rate expressions are based on previously reported papers and are modified to fit the experimental data. The steady-state chemical reaction scheme used in the present mathematical model has been validated extensively with experimental data of selective $NO_X$ reduction efficiency for a wide range of inlet conditions such as space velocity, oxygen concentrations, water concentration, and $NO_2/NO$ ratio. The parametric investigations are performed to examine how the $NH_3$ slip from a SCR $DeNO_X$ catalyst and the conversion of $NO_X$ are affected by the reaction temperature, $NH_3/NO_X$ feed ratio, and space velocity for feed gas compositions with $NO_2/NO_X$ ratios of 0 and 0.5.
Ground CS-891 (N-[1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-methylethyl]-3-oxo-4-aza-5a-androst-1-ene-$17{\beta}$-carboxamide) of poorly water soluble drug was obtained using a Heiko Seisakusho model TI-100 vibration mill, and samples with different crystallinity were prepared at mixture ratios of 10:0, 7:3, 5:5, 3:7 and 0:10 (intact;ground CS-891). Physicochemical characterizations were obtained using qualitative and quantitative X-ray diffractometry, different scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Quantasorb surface area analyzer, and controlled atmosphere microbalance. With increase of amorphous CS-891 in mixture ratios, the intensities of X-ray diffraction peaks of crystalline CS-891 were decreased, whereas surface area, water absorption, and exothermic peaks in DSC were increased. The apparent solubility of ground CS-891 was $4.4\;{\mu}g/ml$ and the solubility of intact CS-891 was $3.1\;{\mu}g/ml$ at $37{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The apparent precipitation rates of CS-891 in a supersaturated solution during the solubility test were increased with an increase of amorphous CS-891, and a crystalline form of CS-891 transformed from amorphous CS-891 after the solubility test was found by X-ray diffraction analysis, DSC and SEM. The dissolution profiles of CS-891 with different crystallinity at $37{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ by the USP paddle method were investigated, and the apparent dissolution rate constant of ground CS-891 was about 5.9-fold higher than that of intact CS-891. A linear relationships between the crystallinity of CS-891 and the apparent dissolution rate constant (r>0.96) were obtained.
The objective of this study was to improve the extent of drug release as well as the dissolution rate of TD49, a novel algicidal agent, via the preparation of solid dispersion (SD). Among the various carriers tested, $Solutol^{(R)}$ HS15 was most effective to enhance the solubility of TD49. Subsequently, SDs of TD49 were prepared by using $Solutol^{(R)}$ HS15 and their solubility, dissolution characteristics and drug crystallinity were examined at various drug-carrier ratios. Solubili ty of TD49 was increased significantly in accordance with increasing the ratio of $Solutol^{(R)}$ HS15 in SDs. Compared to untreated powders and physical mixtures (PMs), SDs facilitated the faster and greater extent of drug release in water. Particularly, SD having the drug-carrier ratio of 1:20 exhibited approximately 90% of drug release within 1 hr. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) thermograms and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns suggested that SDs might enhance the dissolution of TD49 by changing the drug crystallinity to an amorphous form in addition to the increased solubilization of drug in the presence of $Solutol^{(R)}$ HS15. In conclusion, SD using $Solutol^{(R)}$ HS15 appeared to be effective to improve the extent of drug release and the dissolution rate of poorly water soluble TD49.
EOC (Electro-Optical Camera) of KOMPSAT-1 (Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite) has been producing land imageries of the world since January 2000. After image data are acquired by EOC, they are transmitted from satellite to ground via X-band RF signal. Then, EOC image data are generated and pass through radiometric and geometric corrections to generate standard products of EOC images. After radiometric correction on EOC image data, Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) compensation is applicable on EOC images with user's request for better image quality. MTF compensation is concerned with filtering EOC images to minimize the effect of degradations. For Image Receiving and Processing System (IRPE) at KOMPSAT Ground Station (KGS), Wiener filter is used in MTF compensation for EOC images. If the Pointing Spread Function (PSF) of EOC system is known, signal-to-noise power spectra ratio is the only factor in the determination of Wiener filter. In this paper, MTF compensation in IRPE at KGS is introduced and MTF compensated EOC 1R images are generated using Wiener filters with various signal-to-noise power spectra ratios. MTF compensated EOC 1R images are correlated with EOC 1R images for observing linearities between them. As a result, the effect of signal-to-noise power spectra ratio is shown on MTF compensated EOC 1R images.
