Evaluating the Quality of the Differential Police Response Strategy: Applications of Statistical Quality Control Charts (통계적 품질관리도를 활용한 차별적 경찰대응전략의 평가)

  • The purpose of this research is to evaluate the quality of Differential Police Response strategy. Although it has been approximately three years since these new police response systems were introduced, there is no research to evaluate them empirically. Using two types of statistical quality control techniques, Xbar-R control charts for variables data and P charts for attributes data, this study analyzes approximately 3,000 calls reported throughout the year 2012 to the 112 Integrated Dispatch Center in Ik-san police station. The Xbar-R control charts revealed that the police did not consistently respond to an emergency call for service (i.e., code one case) within 3 minutes. The P control chart also identified that there was a significant variation in the portion/number of defective calls where police failed to respond to non-emergency calls for service within 5 minutes. The results from this study suggest the police may need to review the target response time for code 1 and code 2 respectively.

The Effects of Positive Psychological Capital, Organizational Commitment, Customer Orientation in Clinical Nurses (임상간호사의 긍정심리자본이 조직몰입과 고객지향성에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to assess the degree of Positive psychological capital, Organizational commitment, Customer orientation of clinical nurses, and to identify correlations between these variables. Methods: Participants were 230 nurses working in three hospitals located in Seoul. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ test, Pearson Correlation, and Multiple Regression. Results: Mean scores were 3.32 (5 point scale) for Positive psychological capital, 3.03 (5 point scale) for Organizational commitment, 3.71 (5 point scale) for Customer orientation. Positive psychological capital correlated positively with Organizational commitment (r=.29, p<.001) and Customer orientation (r=.58, p<.001). Organizational commitment correlated positively with Customer orientation (r=.28, p<.001). Positive psychological capital had a significant influence on Customer orientation. and these combinations explained 34.2% of the variance in Customer orientation (F=25.68, p<.001). Organizational commitment had a mediating effect between Positive psychological capital and Customer orientation. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest a need for strategies to improve Customer orientation by enhancing the Positive psychological capital of nurses. Furthermore, study to develop and apply a Positive psychological capital promotion program should be conducted.

Influence of instructor trust on learning flow and academic achievement in dental hygiene students (일부 치위생과 학생의 교수 신뢰가 학습몰입과 학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of instructor trust on learning flow and academic achievement in dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 202 dental hygiene students in Gyeongnam from July to August, 2016. A five point Likert scale questionnaire consisted of intimacy (8 items), professionalism (8 items), teaching ability (5 items), and leadership (6 items). Measurement of learning flow was adapted and modified by Kim et al. Academic achievement was adapted and modified by Noe and Schmitt. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ of learning flow was 0.77 and that of academic achievement was 0.78 in the study. Data wee analyzed by t-test, one way ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, and Pearson's correlation using SPSS 23.0 program. Results: The scores of instructor trust, learning flow, and academic achievement were 4.37, 3.46, and 3.23, respectively. Academic achievement had a close positive correlation with instructor trust (r=0.46, p<0.001) and learning flow (r=0.63, p<0.001). Instructor trust had a positive correlation with learning flow (r=0.50, p<0.001). Learning flow took mediating effects on instructor trust and academic achievement. Conclusions: The trust between students and instructors had a great influence on learning flow and academic achievement. So the instructor should try to make the students concentrate on learning.

Relationships between Nurses' Ethical Dilemma, Coping Types, Job Satisfaction and Turnover Intention in Korea (간호사의 윤리적 딜레마, 대처유형, 직무만족도 및 이직의도와의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify ethical dilemma, coping types, job satisfaction and turnover intention in order to examine nurses' ethical recognition. Methods: The subjects were 1,225 registered nurses who were working in 111 general hospitals with more than 300 beds in Korea. The data were collected from August 15 to September 15, 2010 by using the self-reported questionnaires. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff\acute{e}$ test and Pearson's correlation coefficient, using the SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. Results: The mean score of the level of ethical dilemma was 0.69/1, and nursing practice area was the highest (M=0.75). The result showed that nurses experienced ethical dilemma in many cases in their practice. The mean score of the level of coping with ethical dilemma was 1.43/3. The score of the job satisfaction of the participants was 2.97/5, and that of the turnover intention was 2.94/5. The ethical dilemma demonstrated significant correlations with coping (r=.255, p<.001), turnover intention (r=.079, p=.005), and job satisfaction (r=-.212, p<.001). Conclusion: Nurses need to get education on reducing ethical conflict as well as training to develop strategies for effective coping with ethical dilemma in practice. Futhermore, it is necessary to take efforts as a whole to increase nurses' job satisfaction and to reduce their turnover intention.

Fracture incidence of Reciproc instruments during root canal retreatment performed by postgraduate students: a cross-sectional retrospective clinical study

  • Objectives: To evaluate the fracture incidence of Reciproc R25 instruments (VDW) used during non-surgical root canal retreatments performed by students in a postgraduate endodontic program. Materials and Methods: From the analysis of clinical record cards and periapical radiographs of root canal retreatments performed by postgraduate students using the Reciproc R25, a total of 1,016 teeth (2,544 root canals) were selected. The instruments were discarded after a single use. The general incidence of instrument fractures and its frequency was analyzed considering the group of teeth and the root thirds where the fractures occurred. Statistical analysis was performed using the χ2 test (p < 0.01). Results: Seven instruments were separated during the procedures. The percentage of fracture in relation to the number of instrumented canals was 0.27% and 0.68% in relation to the number of instrumented teeth. Four fractures occurred in maxillary molars, 1 in a mandibular molar, 1 in a mandibular premolar and 1 in a maxillary incisor. A greater number of fractures was observed in molars when compared with the number of fractures observed in the other dental groups (p < 0.01). Considering all of the instrument fractures, 71.43% were located in the apical third and 28.57% in the middle third (p < 0.01). One instrument fragment was removed, one bypassed, while in 5 cases, the instrument fragment remained inside the root canal. Conclusions: The use of Reciproc R25 instruments in root canal retreatments carried out by postgraduate students was associated with a low incidence of fractures.

THE EFFECT OF HUMAN DBM($GRAFTON^{(R)}$) GRAFT ON SKULL DEFECT IN THE RABBIT (가토의 두개골 결손부에 이식한 human DBM ($Grafton^{(R)}$)의 효과)

  • In oral and maxillofacial surgery, bone graft is very important procedure for functional and esthetic reconstruction. So, many researcher studied about bone graft material like autogenous bone, allograft bone and artificial bone materials. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quantity of bone generation induced by $Grafton^{(R)}$ graft, human allogenic demineralized bone matrix. Total 24 sites of artificial bony defects prepared using trephin bur(diameter 8 mm) on parietal bone of six adult New Zealand White rabbits. Experimental group had six defect sites which grafted $Grafton^{(R)}$(0.1 cc). Active control group had nine defect sites, into which fresh autogenous bone harvested from own parietal bone was grafted and passive control group had nine defect sites without bone graft. After six weeks postoperatively, the rabbits were sacrificed. The defects and surrounding tissue were harvested and decalcified in 10% EDTA, 10% foamic-acid. Specimens were stained with H&E. New bone area percentage in whole defect area was measured by IMT(VT) image analysis program. Quantity of bone by $Grafton^{(R)}$ graft was smaller than that of autograft and larger than that of empty defects. In histologic view $Grafton^{(R)}$ graft site and autograft site showed similar healing progress but it was observed that newly formed bone in active control group was more mature. In empty defect, quantity and thickness of new bone formation was smaller than in $Grafton^{(R)}$-grafted defect. $Grafton^{(R)}$ is supposed to be a useful bone graft material instead of autogenous bone if proper maintenance for graft material stability and enough healing time were obtained.

Comparison of the Apple Rootstock Cultivar with the MR5 Resistance Traits of Fire Blight Resistance (과수화상병 저항성 사과대목의 MR5보유 대목별 비교)

  • Fire blight, caused by Erwinia amylovora(Burrill), is a destructive disease of apple that damages blossoms, shoots, and woody plant organs. The fire blight disease is a worldwide problem for pome fruit growers because all popular apple cultivars are susceptible to the disease. Recently, fire blight of apple rootstocks has become a serious economic problem in high-density orchard systems in korea. The most commonly used dwarfing root stocks, M.9 and M.26, are highly susceptible to E. amylovora. The objective of the apple rootstock-breeding program has been to develop pomologically excellent rootstocks with resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses, including fire blight. Budagovsky 9 (B.9) apple rootstock is reported to be highly susceptible when inoculated with E. amylovora, although results from multiple trials showed that B.9 is resistant to rootstock blight infection in field plantings. So we tried to collect the apple rootstocks traits of fire blight resistance. The apple genotype Malus Robusta 5 (MR5) represents an ideal donor for fire blight resistance because it was described as resistant to all currently known European strains of the pathogen. The PCR for detecting the MR5 gene using the primers Md_MR5_FL_F/Md_MR5_FL_R. The results of these experiments confirmed some apple rootstocks traits of fire blight resistance showed the MR5. Furthermore, this gene is confirmed to be the resistance determinant of Mr5 as the transformed lines undergo the same gene-for-gene interaction in the host-pathogen relationship MR5-E. amylovora.

Effects of Combined Resistance Training Program of Concentric and Eccentric Contraction Using Theraband on Shoulder Rotation Torque Max and Peak Power (Thera-Band를 이용한 단축성 & 신장성 수축 저항 훈련 프로그램이 어깨의 최대 토크와 최대 파워에 미치는 영향)

The purpose of this study was to find out that combined concentric with eccentric resistance training program using Thera-Band was more effective than only concentric resistance training program on shoulder rotation torque max and peak power. 30 female students were randomly assigned to 3 equal group; concentric and eccentric, concentric, non training group. Subjects were tested in concentric and eccentric torque max and peak power of internal and external rotation using a CON-TERX isokinetic dynamometer. Subjects in training group participated in their regular five times a week for 4 weeks. After exercise, in concentric and eccentric training group, concentric and eccentric torque max, and peak power of internal rotator at 60 deg/sec were increased significantly. concentric peak power at 120 deg/sec were increased significantly. In concentric training group, only concentric peak power of internal rotator at 60 and 120 deg/sec was increased. In conclusion, we found out that combined concentric with eccentric resistance training program using Thera-Band was more effective than only concentric resistance training program on shoulder rotation torque max and peak power.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a software system for computerized menu planning program by food exchange group. In this research, Powerbuilder 5.0 was used. This study provides food service manegers with more effective manegement system and scientific menu.   • Objectives Firefighters and rescue workers are likely to be exposed to a variety of traumatic events; as such, they are vulnerable to the risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The psychometric properties of the Korean version of the PTSD Checklist (PCL), a widely used self-report screening tool for PTSD, were assessed in South Korean firefighters and rescue workers. Methods Data were collected via self-report questionnaires and semi-structured clinical interviews administered to 221 firefighters. Internal consistency, item-total correlation, one-week test-retest reliability, convergent validity, and divergent validity were examined. Content validity of the PCL was evaluated using factor analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses were used to estimate the optimal cutoff point and area under the curve. Results The PCL demonstrated excellent internal consistency (${\alpha}=0.97$), item-total correlation (r = 0.72-0.88), test-retest reliability (r = 0.95), and convergent and divergent validity. The total score of PCL was positively correlated with the number of traumatic events experienced (p < 0.001). Factor analysis revealed two theoretically congruent factors: re-experience/avoidance and numbing/hyperarousal. The optimal cutoff was 45 and the area under the ROC curve was 0.97. Conclusions The Korean version of the PCL may be a useful PTSD screening instrument for firefighters and rescue workers, further maximizing opportunities for accurate PTSD diagnosis and treatment.
