Innovation System of a Theme Park: A Case Study of Everland in Yongin, Korea (테마파크 에버랜드의 혁신시스템)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the innovation system of a theme park, and to suggest the development strategies of a theme park through looking at Everland in Yongin, Korea. Everland had relatively the strong networks with in-house, customers, and suppliers, while it had the weak networks with competitors and universities. The innovation information network is constructed among in-house innovation actors; while, the level of interactive learning is low. So the innovation barriers exist; namely, the insufficiency of information exchange, the lack of roles of intermediate organizations, and the gap of R&D and practices. The cooperation and trust should be accumulated to overcome the barriers of innovations. Therefore, Everland should strengthen the networks with in-house innovation actors, and diffuse the cooperation and trust outwards. To maximize the synergies, Everland should construct the networks of innovation actors in a region (Regional Innovation System). To construct Regional Innovation System, first, Everland should construct the close and horizontal cooperation relationship with related firms, and intensify the innovation capacity through learning by interacting. Second, Everland should diffuse the principle of win-win through cooperation and competition.

  • As the paradigm shifts in the era of accelerated technological development and technology convergence, the defense sector is pursuing national defense research and development through selection and concentration, as well as the expansion of investments to develop defense science and technology to the highest possible level. In addition to investing heavily in cutting-edge weapons and core technologies that are consistent with the future, the defense sector is also developing investment strategies within a limited budget. In the private sector, the PD system has been introduced in order to maximize the performance of R&D policy and to improve the professionalism and responsibility of planning & management. In accordance with this trend, in the field of defense, the PD system of defense technology with specialization is being promoted, in order to strengthen the task planning capacity and to promote the utilization of private technology. Considering the need for coherent technical support for the core technology developed by R&D, the improvement of open technology planning systems and expansion of inter-civil & technical linkage, the use of the PD system in the defense field is indispensable. In this study, we review similar cases abroad and at home to examine the introduction and management of the PD system for defense technology. This study is based on the current state of the defense technology PD system that is being pursued.

Analysis of a Semicircle Antenna by Tilt Angles for Wideband Applications (광대역 통신용 반원형 안테나의 경사각에 의한 성능분석)

  • A semicircle antenna is presented for wideband communication system. The proposed antenna radiates linear polarized wave omnidirectionally in wide frequency band from 1.5 GHz to more than 5 GHz (110%). The frequency bands of the proposed antenna are investigated from the variable current path lengths by tilting angles. The overall radiation gain of the proposed antenna is 2-3 dBi.

  • Innovation with strategic interaction is to overcome the technological uncertainty and to create co-evolution through competition among individuals or organizations for the acceleration of innovation. The concept of innovation in the past was concentrated on cooperation rather than on competition for the efficient management of limited resources. However, in order to minimize the technological uncertainty, we need an innovation on the basis of competition between organizations. Competition stimulates technological adaptability. It is on the analogy of complex system. This is to satisfy consumers' needs, to transform the resources into a technology, and to apply for the development of new products and new technologies. If the emergence of a new technology threatens present technology and develops into a new level of technology through inter-relation, it becomes a mutually supporting technologies. When theses effects are simultaneously realized, it is possible for firm to have strategical innovation and to create a mutually evolutionary development. Furthermore, when the competition among more than two individuals or two organizations continues towards the same direction, the mutual competition and cooperation can be expected to create a synergy effect. The competitive environment should be composed of R&D, production, and consumers' choice. This will lead to interaction among organizations through strategic competition and cooperation. Intra-firm competition and Inter-firm competition are required to exist together.

  • As the weapon systems of the Korean Army possess massive firepower and multiple functions, the improvement of their quality through reliability prediction is becoming increasingly important. Currently, the reliability prediction of the weapon systems of the Korean Army is a difficult process, because it is conducted by naively calculating the reliability of their constituent parts. Recently, as various studies using accumulated data are undertaken across various industries, the defense industry is also attempting to analyze the Dark Data which have been accumulated but not yet used. Therefore, it is necessary to apply Post-Logistics Support (PLS) data in order to improve the reliability of the weapon systems and, for this purpose, the Korean Army needs to conduct diverse studies. Especially, the PLS data in the defense industry is very useful for reliability prediction, because the data on the defects reported after the development of the weapon systems are accumulated in this phase. This study examines the existing reliability prediction method conducted using the component parts and proposes a new reliability prediction method using PLS data. This framework can ultimately contribute to improve the prediction accuracy and quality of the weapon systems.

  • Recently, the research and development of weapon systems have expanded from ILS centered on acquisition costs to LCS, including operating maintenance costs. Regulations define the provision and formula of operating maintenance costs, but this does not consider the characteristics of the design and operation/maintenance of real weapon systems based on engineering calculations. Therefore, this study suggests a simulation design method to complement these areas and produce more accurate operating maintenance costs. The research procedures are as follows. First, the provision and formula of operating maintenance costs were defined to make the simulation results applicable. Second, a simulation model was developed by reviewing design considerations so that the simulation results reflect reality more accurately. The design considerations include the PBS of weapon systems, operation schedules, specifications for operation/maintenance/warehouse facilities, and basic cost information (personnel expense and spare part/equipment cost). This study is expected to be effective in calculating the operating maintenance costs more easily and accurately.

  • The dedusting characteristics of pulse air jet type dedusting system which is widely applied in the industries were identified by utilizing the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and the dedusting performance in modified shape of dedusting unit was compared in this study. The review on the dedusting air volume, air stream distribution and inflow velocity distribution on each shape of dedusting part showed that the case of installing the nozzle on the blow tube (Case-3) and the case of installing the double intaking tube to the venturi (Case-4 and Case-5) were more excellent than the structure (Case-1) which is widely applied in the field in its amplification effect on the air volume and extension of stream width. The specification of venturi was decided to apply the selected Case-5 for the option of the commercial back filter. It is considered that the dedusting air volume will be maintained in maximum in the case of 50 mm and 90 mm for the diameter of internal and external intaking pipe respectively.

  • Advances in technology have allowed the development and commercialization of various parts; however this has shortened the discontinuation cycle of the components. This means that repair and logistic support of weapon system which is applied to thousands of part components and operated over the long-term is difficult, which is the one of main causes of the decrease in the availability of weapon system. To improve this problem, the United States has created a special organization for this problem, whereas in Korea, commercial tools are used to predict and manage DMSMS. However, there is rarely a method to predict life cycle of parts that are not presented DMSMS information at the commercial tools. In this study, the structured and unstructured data of parts of a commercial tool were gathered, preprocessed, and embedded using neural network algorithm. Then, a method is suggested to predict the life cycle risk (LC Risk) and year to end of life (YTEOL). In addition, to validate the prediction performance of LC Risk and YTEOL, the prediction value is compared with descriptive statistics.

  • Recently, Korea's defense industry has advanced highly, and defense R&D budget is gradually increasing in defense budget. However, without objective analysis of defense industry technology, effective defense R&D activities are limited and defense budgets can be used inefficiently. Therefore, in addition to analyzing the defense industry technology quantitatively reflecting the opinions of the experts, this paper aims to analyze the defense industry technology objectively by quantitative methods, and to make efficient use of the defense budget. In addition, we propose a patent analysis method to grasp the characteristics of the defense industry technology and the vacant technology objectively and systematically by applying the big data analysis method, which is one of the keywords of the 4th industrial revolution, to the defense industry technology. The proposed method is applied to the technology of the firepower industry among several defense industrial technologies and the case analysis is conducted. In the process, the patents of 10 domestic companies related to firepower were collected through the Kipris in the defense industry companies' classification of the Korea Defense Industry Association(KDIA), and the data matrix was preprocessed to utilize IPC codes among them. And then, we Implemented association rule mining which can grasp the relation between each item in data mining technique using R program. The results of this study are suggested through interpretation of support, confidence lift index which were resulted from suggested approach. Therefore, this paper suggests that it can help the efficient use of massive national defense budget and enhance the competitiveness of defense industry technology.

A development of a general purposed control system of robot end-effector for inspection and maintenance of steam generator heat pipe (증기발생기전열관의 검사정비로봇용 엔드이펙터의 범용 제어시스템 개발)

  • The general purposed control system for driving a motion of many different typed robot end-effector, which consists of a controller based on ARM Cotex M3-11017 MCU and an application software for generating a motion of end-effector, was developed. Experimental results show that a positioning error is nearly negligible and a repeatability error is 0.04%. Accordingly the developed control system can be applied practically to actuate a robot end-effector for inspection and maintenance of steam generator heat pipe in nuclear power plant.
