Building Transparency on the Total System Performance Assessment of Radioactive Repository through the Development of the FEAS Program (FEAS 프로그램 개발을 통한 방사성폐기물 처분장 종합 성능 평가(TSPA) 투명성 증진에 관한 연구)

  • Transparency on the Total System Performance Assessment (TSPA) is the key issue to enhance the public acceptance for a permanent high level radioactive repository. Traditionally, the study on features, events and processes (FEPs) and associated scenarios has been regarded as the starting point to open the communicative discussion on TSPA such as what to evaluate, how to evaluate and how to translate outcomes into more friendly language that many stakeholders can easily understand and react with. However, in most cases, it has been limited to one way communication, because it is difficult for stakeholders outside the performance assessment field to assess the details on the story of the safety assessment, scenario and technical background of it. Fortunately, the advent of the internet era opens up the possibility of two way communication from the beginning of the performance assessment so that every stakeholder can exchange their keen opinions on the safety issues. To achieve it, KAERI develops the systematic approach from the FEPs to Assessment methods flow chart. All information is integrated into the web based program named FEAS (FEp to Assessment through Scenario development) under development in KAERI. In parallel, two independent systems are also under development the web based QA(Quality Assurance) system and the PA(Performance Assessment) input database. It is ideal to integrate the input data base with the QA system so that every data in the system can checked whenever necessary. Throughout the next phase R&D starting from the year 2003, these three systems will be consolidated into one unified system.

Reference Values of Functional Parameters in Gated Myocardial Perfusion SPECT : Comparison with $QGS^{\circledR}$ and $4DM^{\circledR}$ Program (게이트 심근 관류 스펙트의 심기능 지표의 정상 참고값 : $QGS^{\circledR}$ 프로그램과 $4DM^{\circledR}$ 프로그램의 비교)

  • Purpose: The objectives of this study were - First, to determine the normal range of left ventricular end diastolic volume (EDV), end systolic volume (ESV) and election fraction (EF) from gated myocardial perfusion SPECT for Quantitative Gated SPECT (QGS) and 4D-MSPECT (4DM), respectively. Second, to evaluate the relationships between values produced by both software packages. Materials & Methods: Tc-99m MIBI gated myocardial perfusion SPECT were performed for 77 patients (mean age: $49.6{\pm}13.7y$, n=37(M), 40(F)) with a low likelihood (<10%) of coronary artery disease (CAD) using dual head gamma camera (E.CAM, Siemens, USA). Left ventricular EDV, ESV and EF were automatically measured by means of QGS and 4DM, respectively. Results: in QGS, the mean EDV, ESV and EF for all patients were $78.2{\pm}25.2ml,\;27.4{\pm}12.9ml\;and\;66.6{\pm}8.0%$ at stress test respectively, not different from rest test (p>0.05). In 4DM, the mean EDV, ESV and EF for all patients were $89.1{\pm}26.4ml,\;29.1{\pm}12.8ml\;and\;68.5{\pm}6.7%$ at stress test. Most cases in 4DM, there was no significant difference statistically between stress and rest test (p>0.05). But statistically significant difference was found in EF ($68.5{\pm}6.7%$ at stress vs $70.9{\pm}8.0%$ at rest, p<0.05). Correlation coefficients between the methods for EDV, ESV and EF were comparatively high (0.95, 0.93, 0.71 at stress test and 0.95, 0.90, 0.69 at rest test, respectively). However, Bland-Altman plots showed a large range of the limit value of agreement for EDV, ESV and EF between both methods ($-30ml{\sim}10ml,\;-12ml{\sim}8ml,\;-14%{\sim}11%$ at stress test and $-32ml{\sim}5ml,\;-13ml{\sim}13ml,\;-18%{\sim}12%$ at rest test). Conclusion: We found the normal ranges of EDV, ESV and EF for patients with a low likelihood of CAD in both methods. We expect these values will be a good reference to interpret gated myocardial perfusion SPECT. Although good correlation was observed between both methods, they should not be used interchangeably. Therefore, when both programs are used at the same site, it will be important to apply normal limits specific to each method.

  • For securing technology and business competences of companies that is the engine of domestic industrial growth, government-supported policy programs for the creation of commercialization results in various forms such as 『Technology Transaction Market Vitalization』 and 『Technology Finance-based R&D Commercialization Support』 have been carried out since 2014. So far, various studies on technology valuation theories and evaluation variables have been formalized by experts from various fields, and have been utilized in the field of technology commercialization. However, Their practicality has been questioned due to the existing constraint that valuation results are assessed lower than the expectation in the evaluation sector. Even considering that the evaluation results may differ depending on factors such as the corporate situation and investment environment, it is necessary to establish a reference infrastructure to secure the objectivity and reliability of the technology valuation results. In this study, we investigate the evaluation infrastructure built by each institution and examine whether the latest artificial neural networks and deep learning technologies are applicable for performing predictive simulation of technology values based on principal variables, and predicting sales estimates and qualitative evaluation scores in order to embed onto the technology valuation system.

A Development of Consequence Analysis System for Combustible Materials Release Events Based on HTML5 Web (HTML5 웹 기반 가연성 물질 누출 피해영향평가 시스템 개발)

  • Korea Gas Safety Corporation is developing consequence analysis system for combustible materials release events to enhance risk assessment technology and its efficiency. Unlike general consequence analysis programs, the final consequence area was implemented through ETA analysis based on API-581 standard, and a convenient user interface was constructed based on HTML5-based responsive web technology. In addition, a phase equilibrium module using third-order state equations (such as Peng-Robinson, SRK, and RK) and fugecity was implemented to analyze the mixture quality. Also. using the consequence analysis algorithm introduced in CCPS books and TNO Yellow Book, we developed material leak analysis module, fireball, pool fire, jet fire, flash fire, and vapor cloud explosion consequence assessment module. In addition, the conditions for calculating the safety distance were prepared with using the control values in the EIGA standard, PAC, and Bevi Reference Book.

  • Current financial crisis triggered by shaky U.S. banking system adds to the emphasis on the importance of the volatility in controlling and understanding financial time series data. The ARCH and GARCH models have been useful in analyzing economic time series volatilities. In particular, multivariate GARCH(MGARCH, for short) provides both volatilities and conditional correlations between several time series and these are in turn applied to computations of hedge-ratio and VaR. In this short article, we try to assess various MGARCH models with respect to the back-testing performances in VaR study. To this end, 14 korean stock prices are analyzed and it is found that MGARCH outperforms rolling window, and BEKK and CCC are relatively conservative in back-testing performance.

  • For efficiently safety management of city gas pipelines, the City-gas Pipeline Management System(CPMS) has been developed to systematically manage and analyze the data collected from 33 city gas companies and to effectively perform internal and external affairs related to gas safety management. The piping information data uploaded to the CPMS is ranked the risk according to the criteria specified in the KGS Code, and the safety management of the piping has performed close inspection according to the risk ranking. However, the criteria for deriving the risk ranking is very simple and lacks relevant grounds, and the reliability for the determination of the close inspection pipeline is no high due to the redundant rank. Therefore, we developed a risk assessment program based on the Reliability Based Design Assessment(RBDA) methodology and tried to derive a reasonable risk ranking by linking it with the CPMS system.

  • 본 논문은 전력계통의 보다 합리적인 신뢰도 운영을 실시하고자 근래 V&R Energy System Research에서 개발한 신뢰도 평가 프로그램인 POM과 EPRI에서 개발한 PRA를 이용하여 우리나라계통에 적용하여 성공적으로 얻은 다양한 사례연구 결과를 소개한다. 여기서는 PRA 프로그램을 우리나라 전력계통의 계획측면에서 활용방안을 모색하기로 하고 다음과 같은 몇 가지 사례연구에 주안점을 두고 실시하였다. 2008년도 우리나라 계통의 병입되는 당진화력 7,8호기의 신설에 따란 계통영향에 대한 신뢰도 지수 비교 순석과 2007년부터 2012년까지의 향후 6년간에 걸친 장기계통계획에 대한 우리나라계통의 신뢰도 지수의 변화를 비교 분석하는 등 계통계획측면에서의 활용방안의 타당성에 관하여 검토하였다.

Analysis of Safety by Expansion of Hydrogen Charging Station Facilities (수소충전소 설비 증설에 따른 안전성 해석)

  • This study conducted a risk assessment using the HyKoRAM program created by international joint research. Risk assessment was conducted based on accident scenarios and worst-case scenarios that could occur in the facility, reflecting design specifications of major facilities and components such as compressors, storage tanks, and hydrogen pipes in the hydrogen charging station, and environmental conditions around the demonstration complex. By identifying potential risks of hydrogen charging stations, we are going to derive the worst leakage, fire, explosion, and accident scenarios that can occur in hydrogen storage tanks, treatment facilities, storage facilities, and analyze the possibility of accidents and the effects of damage on human bodies and surrounding facilities to review safety.

A Case Study for Simulation of a Debris Flow with DEBRIS-2D at Inje, Korea (DEBRIS-2D를 이용한 인제지역 토석류 산사태 거동모사 사례 연구)

  • In order to assess applicability of debris flow simulation on natural terrain in Korea, this study introduced the DEBRIS-2D program which had been developed by Liu and Huang (2006). For simulation of large debris flows composed of fine and coarse materials, DEBRIS-2D was developed using the constitutive relation proposed by Julien and Lan (1991). Based on the theory of DEBRIS-2D, this study selected a valley where a large debris flow was occurred on July 16th, 2006 at Deoksanri, Inje county, Korea. The simulation results show that all mass were already flowed into the stream at 10 minutes after starting. In 10minutes, the debris flow reached the first geological turn and an open area, resulting in slow velocity and changing its flow direction. After that, debris flow started accelerating again and it reached the village after 40 minutes. The maximum velocity is rather low between 1 m/sec and 2 m/sec. This is the reason why debris flow took 50 minutes to reach the village. The depth change of debris flow shows enormous effect of the valley shape. The simulated result is very similar to what happened in the field. It means that DEBRIS-2D program can be applied to the geologic and topographic conditions in Korea without large modification of analysis algorithm. However, it is necessary to determine optimal reference values of Korean geologic and topographic properties for more reliable simulation of debris flows.

Radiological Safety Assessment of a HLW Repository in Korea using MASCOT-K (MASCOT-K를 이용한 가상 방사성폐기물 처분장에서의 종합성능 평가)

  • Since 1977, KAERI has conducted the fundamental R&D on the permanent disposal of potential HLW repository in Korea. The first ten year project is divided into three short-term phase studies. The first phase study which shall be finished in March of 2000, has the prime target to develop the disposal concept of HLW. Throughout this study the preliminary and generic disposal repository system has been introduced. The potential repository is proposed to be emplaced into crystalline rocks which is the most common rock types in Korea. The proposed depth of the repository is between 300 to 700 meter. The numerical code, MASCOT-K was developed to asserts the long term safety of the proposed repository concept. Based on this conceptual design preliminary safely assessment was performed. Results show that for the given disposal system the potential radioactive release it well below the regulatory limit.
