과산화수소와 티오황산나트륨을 이용한 정수처리공정에서의 잔류오존 제거 (Removal of residual ozone in drinking water treatment using hydrogen peroxide and sodium thiosulfate)

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the chemical quenching system for residual ozone and to determine the operating condition for the quenching system. Hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) and sodium thiosulfate ($Na_2S_2O_3$) were investigated as quenching reagents for ozone removal, and the tendency of each chemical was notably different. In the case of $H_2O_2$, the degradation rate of ozone was increased as the concentration of $H_2O_2$ increase, and temperature and pH value have a significant effect on the degradation rate of ozone. On the other hand, the degradation rate of ozone was not affected by the concentration of $Na_2S_2O_3$, temperature and pH value, due to the high reactivity between the ${S_2O_3}^{2-}$ and ozone. This study evaluates the decomposition mechanism of ozone by $H_2O_2$ and $Na_2S_2O_3$ with consideration for the water quality and reaction time. Furthermore, the removal test for the quenching reagents, which can be remained after reaction with ozone, was conducted by GAC process.

Q&P와 AM강의 잔류오스테나이트 분율과 안정도에 따른 인장특성 거동 (Effects of Stability and Volume Fraction of Retained Austenite on the Tensile Properties for Q&P and AM Steels)

  • The effects of Quenching and Partitioning (Q&P) and Annealed Martensite (AM) heat treatment on the microstructure and tensile properties were investigated for 0.24C-0.5Si-1.5Mn-1Al steels. The Q&P steels were annealed at a single phase ($\gamma$) or a dual phase (${\gamma}+{\alpha}$), followed by quenching to a temperature between $M_s$ and $M_f$. Then, enriching carbon was conducted to stabilize the austenite through the partitioning, followed by water quenching. The AM steels were intercritically annealed at a dual phase (${\gamma}+{\alpha}$) temperature and austempered at $M_s$ and $M_s{\pm}50^{\circ}C$, followed by cooling in oil quenching. The dual phase Q&P steels showed lower tensile strength and yieldyield strength than those of the single phase Q&P steels, and tThe elongation for the dual phase Q&P steel was partitioning 100s higher than that of that for the single phase Q&P steels as the partitioning time was less than 100s up to partitioning 100s. For AM steels, the tensile/yield strength decreased and the total elongation increased as the austempering temperature increased. The stability of the retained austenite controlled the elongation for Q&P steels and the volume fraction of the retained austenite controlled the elongation for AM steels.

자유 체적이론을 고려한 급냉 폴리스티렌판에 발생하는 잔류응력과 복굴절 형성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Prediction of Thermally-Induced Residual Stress and Birefringence in Quenched Polystyrene Plate Including Free Volume Theory)

  • The residual stress and birefringence in injection-molded plastic parts can be divided into the flow-induced residual stress and birefringence produced in flowing stage, the thermally-induced residual stress and birefringence produced in cooling stage. However, the physics involved in the generation of the thermally-induced residual stress and birefringence still remains to be understood. Because polymer experiences viscoelastic history near the glass-transition temperature it is hard to model the entire process. Volume relaxation phenomenon was included to predict the final thermally-induced residual stress and birefringence in quenched plastic parts more accurately. The present study focused on comparing the predicted values far thermally-induced residual stress and birefringence with and without volume relaxation behavior (or free volume theory) under free and constrained quenching conditions. As a result, tile residual stress remained as a tensile stress at the center and as a compressible stress near the surface for the free quenching cases. In contract the residual stress remained as a compressible stress at the center and as a tensile stress near the surface fur the constrained quenching cases. The residual birefringence remained as minus values at the center and as plus values near the surface for the free quenching cases. Interestingly the residual birefringence showed minus values in entire zone for the constrained quenching cases. In the prediction of birefringence only the case including free volume theory showed the correct result for the distribution of birefringence in thickness direction.

  • Chalcogenide glassy semiconductors(CGS) can be obtained by the melt quenching technique. We have investigated the thin film heterostructures : metal-chalcogenide glassy semiconductors, where metal is copper, and chalcogenide glassy semiconductors are glasses of the system As-Se. Cu/CGS film heterostructure were produced in the vacuum evaporator by the method of vacuum thermal evaporation. Doped films are very sensitive to external actions, and this property allows developing supersensitive precision sensors of temperature, humidity, illumination, and etc. based on them. Cu/CGS film has shown that resistance strongly depend on the temperature. The slop of temperature and resistance shows linear.

고온강재의 담금질 전열에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Heat Transfer of the High Temperature Metals in Quenching - The Latent Heat of Phase Transformation and Cooling Curves -)

  • Experiments of quenching were made with cylindrical specimens of carbon steel S45C of diameters from 12 to 30mm were performed. The specimens were heated by electric furnace and quenched by immersion method. In order to analyze the temperature profile(cooling curves) of carbon steel including the latent heat of phase transformation, nonlinear heat conduction problem was calculated by the numerical method of inverse heat conduction problem using the apparent heat capacity method. The difference between the calculated and the experimented cooling curves was caused by the latent heat of phase transformation, and the effects of the latent heat were especially manifest at the cooling curves of center of specimens. The temperature and the quantity of the latent heat of phase transformation depend on the cooling speed at A sub(1) transformation point, and the region for cooling speed to become zero was caused by the latent heat of phase transformation.

유정용 강관의 미세조직 및 기계적 성질에 미치는 열처리의 영향 (Effect of Heat Treatments on the Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of OCTG)

  • 본 연구에서는 유정용 강관의 열처리 조건에 따른 미세조직 및 기계적 성질을 조사하였다. 실험에 사용된 유정용 강관의 종류는 J55 강재를 사용 하였고, 열처리 조건은 각각 오스테나이트 처리온도 ($880^{\circ}C$, $910^{\circ}C$, $940^{\circ}C$), 냉각방식 (수냉, 유냉), 템퍼링 온도 (미실시, $550^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$) 이다. 열처리 조건에 따라 얻어지는 미세조직을 예측하기 위해 J55 강재의 화학적 성분을 기준으로 평형상태도와 CCT 곡선을 시뮬레이션 하였으며, 그 결과 A1, A3 온도가 약 $20^{\circ}C$ 감소 하는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 냉각속도에 따라 마르텐사이트, 베이나이트, 페라이트등 예상되는 미세조직을 정성적으로 알 수 있었고 이 결과는 실제 실험값과 유사한 양상을 나타내었다. 오스테나이트 처리온도가 증가 함에 따라 구 오스테나이트 결정립이 조대화 되었으며, 특히 $920^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 결정립 크기가 급격히 증가하였다. 따라서 결정립 미세화 효과에 따라 경도와 강도는 감소 하였다. 열처리 조건이 변화함에 따라 마르텐사이트, 베이나이트, 페라이트 등 다양한 조직이 생성되었으며, 이는 경도, 강도 및 연신율에 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 수냉의 경우 마르텐사이트 조직이, 유냉의 경우 베이나이트와 페라이트 조직이 형성되었으며 수냉한 시편이 더 우수한 기계적 성질을 나타내었다. 템퍼링 처리후 마르텐사이트 조직 내에 FeC 석출물이 생성되었고 템퍼링 처리온도가 증가함에 따라 FeC석출물이 조대화되면서 인성이 향상되었다.

PROPERTIES OF ZR ALLOY CLADDING AFTER SIMULATED LOCA OXIDATION AND WATER QUENCHING

  • In order to study the cladding properties of zirconium after a loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA)-simulation oxidation and water quenching test, commercial Zircaloy-4 and two kinds of HANA claddings were oxidized at temperatures ranging from $900^{\circ}C$ to $1250^{\circ}C$ and exposed for 300 s, and then cooled to $700^{\circ}C$ before quenching. Microstructural observations were made to evaluate the matrix characteristics with the chemical compositions after the LOCA-simulation test. Ring compression testing was then performed to compare the ductile behaviour of the HANA and Zircaloy-4 claddings. An X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was carried out for temperatures ranging from room temperature to $1250^{\circ}C$ for the oxide layer to verify the oxide crystal structure at each oxidation temperature.

THERMAL SHOCK FRACTURE OF SILICON CARBIDE AND ITS APPLICATION TO LWR FUEL CLADDING PERFORMANCE DURING REFLOOD

  • SiC has been under investigation as a potential cladding for LWR fuel, due to its high melting point and drastically reduced chemical reactivity with liquid water, and steam at high temperatures. As SiC is a brittle material its behavior during the reflood phase of a Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) is another important aspect of SiC that must be examined as part of the feasibility assessment for its application to LWR fuel rods. In this study, an experimental assessment of thermal shock performance of a monolithic alpha phase SiC tube was conducted by quenching the material from high temperature (up to $1200^{\circ}C$) into room temperature water. Post-quenching assessment was carried out by a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) image analysis to characterize fractures in the material. This paper assesses the effects of pre-existing pores on SiC cladding brittle fracture and crack development/propagation during the reflood phase. Proper extension of these guidelines to an SiC/SiC ceramic matrix composite (CMC) cladding design is discussed.

A Thermodynamic Study on the Interaction of Quinolone Antibiotics and DNA

  • Fluorescence of quinolones including norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin and S- and R-ofloxacin is quenched upon association with single and double-stranded DNA (ss- and ds-DNA). The ratios of fluorescence intensity in the presence of DNA to its absent were plotted with respect to the DNA concentration to construct the Stern-Volmer plot. The slope of the Stern-Volmer plot become larger as the temperature is lowered, ensuring that the fluorescence quenching is static process, i.e., the fluorescence is quenched by formation of the non-fluorescent complex between quinolone and DNA. In the static quenching mechanism, the quenching constant which is equivalent to the slope of the Stern-Volmer plot, is considered as the equilibrium constant for the association of quinolones and DNA. From the temperature-dependent equilibrium constant, ${\Delta}H^0\;and\;{\Delta}S^0$ was obtained using the van’t Hoff relation. In general, association of the quinolone with ds- as well as ss-DNA is energetically favorable (an exothermic) process while the entropy change was unfavorable. Due to the steric effect of the substituents, the effect of the quinolone ring is smaller on the ss-DNA compared to ds-DNA.

보론 도우핑된 비정질 실리콘 박막 트랜지스터의 열에 의한 준안정성 연구 (Thermally Induced Metastability in Boron-Doped Amorphous Silicon Thin Film Transistor)

  • 보론이 도우핑된 수소화된 비정질 실리콘을 이용한 박막 트랜지스터를 플라즈마 CVD 방법으로 제작하여 트랜지스터의 특성 및 준안정성에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 보론이 도우핑된 비정질 실리콘 ambipolar 트랜지스터를 열평형 온도 이상에서 급냉하면, active dopants가 증가하고 경계면 상태밀도가 감소하여 정공채널에 의한 드레인 전류가 증가하고 전자채널의 드레인 전류는 급냉 온도에 따라 증가하다 감소되는 현상을 측정하였다. 이런 급냉 효과는 실리콘내에 있는 수소의 운동과 밀접한 관계가 있고 active dopants, 댕글링 본드 및 경계면 상태밀도의 변화로 해석된다.
