This paper presents an adaptive quantization matrix selection scheme for H.264 video encoding. Conventional H.264 coding standard applies the same quantization matrix to the entire video sequence without considering local characteristics in each frame. In this paper, we propose block adaptive selection of quantization matrix according to edge directivity of each block. Firstly, edge directivity of each block is determined using intra prediction modes of its spatially adjacent blocks. If the block is decided as a directional block, new weighted quantization matrix is applied to the block. Otherwise, conventional quantization matrix is used for quantization of the non-directional block. Since the proposed weighted quantization is designed based on statistical distribution of transform coefficients in accordance with intra prediction modes, we can achieve high coding efficiency. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can improve coding efficiency by about 2% in terms of BD bit-rate.

In order to convert MPEG-2 into H.264 format in ubiquitous communication environments, the efficient conversion of the discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients to H.264 transform coefficients is essential. In this paper, two efficient conversion systems are proposed. The proposed systems are composed of two parts. In the first part, the DCT coefficients are denoised using the lapped transform (LT) to reduce the quantization noises and blocking effects. In the second part, the denoised DCT coefficients are converted into the integer transform (IT) coefficients of H.264. Simulation results show that the proposed methods provide visually fine images. Moreover, the computational complexity of the proposed method is reduced compared with the conventional method, since the number of the DCT coefficients, which should be converted, is reduced in the first part.
Content adaptive watermark embedding algorithm using a stochastic image model in the multiwavelet transform is proposed in this paper. A watermark is embedded into the perceptually significant coefficients (PSCs) of each subband using multiwavelet transform. The PSCs in high frequency subband are selected by SSQ, that is, by setting the thresholds as the one half of the largest coefficient in each subband. The perceptual model is applied with a stochastic approach based on noise visibility function (NVF) that has local image properties for watermark embedding. This model uses stationary Generalized Gaussian model characteristic because watermark has noise properties. The watermark estimation use shape parameter and variance of subband region. it is derive content adaptive criteria according to edge and texture, and flat region. The experiment results of the proposed watermark embedding method based on multiwavelet transform techniques were found to be excellent invisibility and robustness.

In this Paper, we designed an LSP(Line Spectral Pairs) parameter quantizer with cascaded structure of vector quantizer and scalar quantizer for the wideband speech coder. We have chosen the 16th-order of the LP coefficients. These coefficients are then transformed into the LSP parameters which have the excellent properties for quantization and easy stability checking condition of synthesis filter. In the first stage of quantization, input LSP parameters are split-vector-quantized using two 8-th order codebooks. In the second stage, the components of residual vector are individually quantized by the scalar quantizer utilizing the ordering property of LSP parameters. The designed adaptive VQ-SQ quantizer using 35 bits/frame shows the wideband transparency that the average spectral distortion should be less than 1.6 ㏈ and less than 4% of the frames should have SD above 3 ㏈. The simulation results show that the designed quantizer provides a 2-3 bits/frame saving over the typical vector-scalar quantizer.

In this paper, the biomedical signal compression method, which is combined with the multi-stage vector quantization and wavelet lifting scheme, is proposed. It utilizes the property of wavelet coefficients that give emphasis on approximation coefficients. The transmitted codebook index consists of the code vectors obtained by wavelet lifting coefficients of ECG and error signals from the 1024 block length, respectively. Each codebook is adaptively updated by the method comparing to the distance of input codevectors with candidate codevectors by using an pre-defined threshold value. The proposed compression method showed blow 3% in term of PRD and 276.62 bits/sec in term of CDR.
This paper presents fragile watermark system using quantization and DC coefficients. It is a way to prevent the watermark fro, being detected if the original has been modified in any way. In other words, the detection of a watermark ca be said to be originality after the watermark is inserted, without any damage. Since lossy compression such as JPEG is often allowed or required in practical applications, authentication methods, authentication methods should be distinguished from malicious modifications such as image shifting, cropping, filtering, and replacement. The proposed algorithm implements a fragile watermarking algorithm that shows image authentication with JPEC compression and the watermark easily breaks other malicious variants.

We propose a new image coding method which takes into account both statistical redundancy and perceptual irrelevancy of the DCT coefficients so as to provide a high quality of the reconstructed images with a reduced transmission bit rate First, a block of DCT coefficients are decomposed into 16 subvectors so as for a subvector to convey key information about one of the low-pass or the dirctional filtered images. Then, the most significant subvector is selected as the principal edge of the block and then vector quantized. After that, the residuals of the block are computed and then sequentially quantized through aforementioned procedure until the quantization distortion is smaller than the target distortion. The proposed scheme is good at encoding images with a variety of transmission bit rates, especially at very low bit rate coding. In addition, it is another benifit of the proposed scheme that an image can be quantized with a wide range of the transmission bit rates by simply adapting the stopping criterion of the sequential vector quantizer according to the target distortion of the reconstructed image.

H.264/AVC can use three transforms depending on types of residual data which are to be coded. H.264/AVC always executes $4{\times}4$ DCT transform. In $16{\times}16$ intra mode only, $4{\times}4$ Hadamard transform for luma DC coefficients and $2{\times}2$ Hadamard transform for chroma DC coefficients are performed additionally. Quantization is carried out to achieve further data compression after transform coding is completed. In this paper, the hardware implementation for DCT transform, Hadamard transform and quantization is studied. Especially, the proposed architecture adopting the pipeline technique can output a quantized result per clock cycle after 33-clock cycle latency. The proposed architecture is coded in Verilog-HDL and synthesized using Xilinx 7.1i ISE tool. The operating frequency is 106MHz at SPARTAN3S-1000. The designed IP can process maximum 33-frame at $1920{\times}1080$ HD resolution.
This paper addressed an another scheme of distortion estimation method based on simplified inverse quantization in H.264/AVC. The distortion is calculated by the difference of coefficient between quantized transform coefficients and that of inverse. In general, these process included such transforms as discrete cosine transform(DCT), quantization, inverse quantization(IQ), and Inverse DCT(IDCT). In proposed approach, IQ as well as IDCT process are skipped because of replacing a couple of approximated formulas. Some simulation have been conducted and it showed that the PSNR was almost the same, and reduced the rate-distortion optimization(RDO) mode decision time of 8~15% in comparison with conventional method.
In this papers, we proposes a efficient compression method of an image using the extraction of boundary region of DCT in MPEG-1. DCT coefficients have from low frequency to high frequency various components. After performing DCT to an image, the data is compressed to contain the boundary Region by quantization, and the information of boundary Region can be extracted by inverse DCT. In those, I chose frequency components susceptible to the boundary through the many experiences. In this paper, boundary can be selected by dividing low frequency by big quantization coefficient and dividing high frequency by small quantization coefficient without degrading visual qualify in MPEG-1. Also it is predicted that to reduce high frequency value will be good in noisy environments.
